Martin Cook is a very good musician and never knew it was him that did the Sportscene '83 theme, there are loads of session musicians doing well known theme tunes that we don't know about, thank you for finding this out.
Sportscene may have replaced Match Of The Day in Scotland but Sportscene as well as football from both sides of the Border featured other sports Curling, Ice Hockey, Rugby Union, Snooker, Rallying, Sailing
I've been trawling the internet for years without success for footage of: Scotland 2-1 Netherlands 1982 Scotland 0-0 East Germany 1985 Scotland 2-0 Hungary 1987 Highlights of the games were broadcast at the time so footage hopefully exists somewhere!
Hi Tony. Did you ever find footage of the Netherlands game ? That was my first ever Scotland game as a really young boy with Parents, Papa and Uncle ! Would be great to see if it jogs back memories.

This theme is still used today in 2022 on Sportscene.
Sadly it’s been dropped for the 22/23 season. I’ve just written to the BBC to request it returns next season 😞

Full editions from that era no longer exist I'm afraid! :-(
Living 50 miles south of the border, we had Scotsport on Border until 1999. This was nearly always football and was like watching paint dry.
