I appreciate how much content this author has about Nioh 2, almost about anything important in this complex "DS3 meets PoE" gam. It's an absolute gem, but not many people will play it. It's complex, complicated, brutally difficult. It is like game version of Malaz Book of Fallen of Steven Eriksonn. Fantasy saga SO GOOD but it has 11000 pages. So many ppl never consider even start to read. I have quite a gamer community in my workplace, many Dark souls, fewer sekiro. Nioh 1 only me. Nioh 2 only me :D. BUT I LOVE EVERY SECOND. (BTW spear main here)
I started axe main and pretty much only used that. Switched to duel blades with spear lite. Took a few years away and every team ninja since has been a disappointment. So starting over katana and spear and switch between often.. its crazy I would pre shift on accident and wonder how I did what I did. But get it now, these videos are great.
This game is the equivalent of flying a helicopter. Tons of buttons while managing both a stick and pedals, and always mere seconds plummeting to your death. Love it.
Man my mind is *blown* dude. All this time I've been in low stance and up close to Yokai, and constantly dying even after focusing Damage Reduction Mid-Attack. I would just try to spam things like Pole Kick and Cull the Herd up close. No wonder I'm dying so much haha
For all you doubting spear or not sure if you want to try it out think about it this way: in actual samurai warfare, the spear was considered the great equalizer because of how effective of a weapon it is against how cheap and how easy to teach to soliders to use it effectively as even peasant can be somewhat of a threat if equipped with it, so while yes swords are important in japanese medieval warfare, so is the spear as the spear is great at keeping enemies away from you and had been used by soldiers for centuries by that point. You could argue that 'standard' equip for a fully geared samurai going to war would be an uchigatana or tanto as off weapon, a spear as their main weapon and perhaps throw a bow for range. The spear was once regarded in the same scale as the sword as a necessary skill in the art of war just as the bow once was but its used dropped when more emphasis was placed in close quarters combat during the edo period. And it shows in the game, the flash attack of the sword moves you forward just the right amount to supplement the difference in weapon ranges between the spear and the sword, while the spear flash attack is an circular sweep that pushes the opponent away. This gives the sword and spear excellent synergy for flash attacks which are by themselves pretty strong in the game, incentive for building the habit of switching your weapon to keep the opponent within your range of attack but away from his. And that's what proper game design is all about kiddos
I think it's that people are under the misconception that warriors had their sword unsheathed at the beginning of battle. The sword is a side arm, you normally start with using a spear to either kill you enemy ot range, or to kill your enemies mount. That is when you unsheath your sword and go in for close range, only if you lose your spear though. Ever hear of the phalinx formation? Weapons with reach are kinda busted.
@@shirothegamer7574 exactly, war is nasty and close quarter war is even more, hellish even. Reach is the most important in war, you want to hit your foe without being hit yourself.
You deserve way more than 11k subs. Honestly. The combat is so in depth and you literally learned all the techs and movesets just to showcase it for us.
Spear was my favorite all the way back in the beta/demo. My first playthrough I believe I ran a good old fashioned sword and spear set up. Nowadays I'm either all about the tonfa or fists though
I usually use Resounding Lounge after a Spear Flourish into a Back Slash and unleash it if the Back Slash lands. It's worked against foes who can be easily staggered, but you want to use it when you FEEL like they won't attack or dodge yet, BUT they could rek you when you least expect in DotW&N. *Kuriku*(Click{Engrish})
I went from hack and slash swords to Spear and Kusarigama. Definitely a massively different playstyle, a lot more positioning is required, vs getting up close and being hyper aggressive with animation cuts.
Imma be honest here: I only started running spear because I started DotW and got an ethereal+25 Great Holly Spear with Mystic Dyad and A+ Skill scaling. I still use that very same spear because you never forget your first, after all. I realize I kept my axe playstyle with the spear and I was suffering for it. Thanks bud.
Wait, there's more moves than just medium stance strong attack? Been just spamming three of those into either dodge or ki pulse for my 100 levels or so. Has worked surprisingly well so far and never really felt like I should use other stances or skills.
I am gonna start a new game and try out the spear now. I find starting a new game lets me focus better at one skill at a time. I am looking forward to an odachi guide cause I have always found that weapon really wonky.
Chidori skill was super OP in Nioh 1. you could literally throw in air almost every human enemy without the need of executing the full combo of animations.
Never main spear in nioh 1 or 2 yet whenever I do a new run I end up using the damn spear to get thru early bosses. It’s just too damn good. It gets a lot of crap in nioh 1 forums for being low in damage but I never found that to be the case.
Trying a fist and spear build.. loving fist ! But it obviously lacks the range, and I'm trying to get synched up with the spear. Thanks for all this info!
im still a noob at nioh 2, but i can answer your question at :29.....when they have no stamina left...and you pulse perfectly for max stamina gain. *seconds later* Damn...that's why I'm still a noob...
I'm currently in the village on the first part of the game and at level 8. But I would like to know how I can get a spear as I'm using a kusarigami and odachi as my main weapons
If you bought the complete edition, then you can just go to the shrine to get a bunch of weapons. otherwise, just gonna have to get lucky and find a random spear.
spear long range keep distance this is always the case with spears it doesn't matter if its a game or not, personally I cant see why anyone would not see that unless they don't know what spears are (not a hate comment, I am just confused by the "spear good at keeping range and controlling")
Hey professor, have you tested the skills expanded mod? It makes the weapons have additional move biddings and even restore some lost moves from nioh 1. The spear becomes a beast with it since it allows the player to proc spearfall and/or chidori from high stance while equipping piercing rain and proc back slash simply by pulling the stick back and hit strong during a quick combo
@@PooferLlama i will definitely try to catch those, then. i am pretty good myself but watching you go full ultra instinct with this mod on must be a thing beauty
