Do these geniuses know that spammers can quickly and easily use fake IDs to register? Were they born yesterday and do not know that collecting personal data will only make it easier to sell / misuse violating basic human / privacy rights? Have they not learned anything from the contact tracing data gathering sold to spammers? Talk is cheap. It's easy to say that there are laws protecting data privacy (DPA 2012). But has anyone been successfully convicted for selling / leaking contact tracing data? This will only make it easier for spammers to get their hands on updated and updated personal information. One of the many potential solutions that will not affect privacy is limiting the # of txt blast to 1 thousand or even hundreds unique #s per day on prepaid sims, especially those that were just activated this year. Just set a daily and weekly limit sending to unique numbers. If hundreds or thousands of messages are exchanged with a handful of numbers via a new sim, then let them do it. Sending to thousands of unique number is already a red flag. No postpaid users will risk spamming and getting blocked. Let them do what they wish. Same with those active numbers for the past 5 years. I'm not sure if they're just too lazy to think how spamming works or if they already know still want to collect private info. Spammers will always use a new prepaid sim to spam thousands or unique numbers. That parameter by itself can automatically be blocked vs the inconvenience and potential loss of business from honest subscribers who are unable to register. The rest of the country does not need to compromise or even make an effort, only for their most updated personal data to be leaked or bought to spammers. Not to mention that this consolidated database is a vulnerability that can be misused for identity theft. You're only making it more convenient to spammers but not the tens of millions who have phones. If you're holding or planning to buy Globe, PLDT/Smart or DITO stocks/shares, it's time to rethink how their sales WILL be affected by honest folks who can't register and automatically disconnected. This will lead to them not being able to be reached by paying customers. There are a lot of senior citizens and far flung provinces where they mostly take calls from paying customers but does not have enough signal for 4G/5G. Thumbs up if you agree. 👍🏼 🙂

My suggestion on this issue is: The implementation of the Sim card registration should have been done after all National IDs have been issued...for the legitimacy and correctness of the informations that every subscriber will give for the such registration. And, only one identification shall be required, that is the National ID. With the present situation, a subscriber can use a fictitious identification document, just to register the Sim card he/she wishes to use. The law is very good. But I doubt it's implementation and after effects...🤔

I will bet that this new rule will fail bigtime! For new sim cards, the issuer or seller of the sim card should be responsible for the registration. The address of the buyer can follow later.

I have lived in Singapore for more than a decade . Singapore has been doing this many many years ago and it reduces cyber crime.. You are required to submit a valid ID to upload during registration. The telco & NTC has 180 days to do background check on the ID you submitted with the cooperation of other government agency like NBI, PNP, GSIS, Pag-Ibig, Philhealth, etc. You will be given notice and may probably extend it for another 120 days to submit a valid ID again if the original you gave is not valid before deactivation.

What if the sim owner declared a wrong address? There should be investigator to actually verify the address of the person who register the sim card .

You are required to submit a valid ID to upload during registration. The telco & NTC has 180 days to do background check on the ID you submitted with the cooperation of other government agency like NBI, PNP, GSIS, Pag-Ibig, Philhealth, etc. You will be given notice and may probably extend it for another 120 days to submit a valid ID again if the original you gave is not valid before deactivation.
actually yong id kasi na i-attach mo sa form may nakasulat na home address mo doon, maliban nalang seguro kung fake yong ID mo let the telcos handled it and do their job.
Do these geniuses know that spammers can quickly and easily use fake IDs to register?
Were they born yesterday and do not know that collecting personal data will only make it easier to sell / misuse violating basic human / privacy rights?
Have they not learned anything from the contact tracing data gathering sold to spammers?
Talk is cheap. It's easy to say that there are laws protecting data privacy (DPA 2012).
But has anyone been successfully convicted for selling / leaking contact tracing data?
This will only make it easier for spammers to get their hands on updated and updated personal information.
One of the many potential solutions that will not affect privacy is limiting the # of txt blast to 1 thousand or even hundreds unique #s per day on prepaid sims, especially those that were just activated this year. Just set a daily and weekly limit sending to unique numbers.
If hundreds or thousands of messages are exchanged with a handful of numbers via a new sim, then let them do it.
Sending to thousands of unique number is already a red flag.
No postpaid users will risk spamming and getting blocked. Let them do what they wish. Same with those active numbers for the past 5 years.
I'm not sure if they're just too lazy to think how spamming works or if they already know still want to collect private info.
Spammers will always use a new prepaid sim to spam thousands or unique numbers.
That parameter by itself can automatically be blocked vs the inconvenience and potential loss of business from honest subscribers who are unable to register.
The rest of the country does not need to compromise or even make an effort, only for their most updated personal data to be leaked or bought to spammers.
Not to mention that this consolidated database is a vulnerability that can be misused for identity theft.
You're only making it more convenient to spammers but not the tens of millions who have phones.
If you're holding or planning to buy Globe, PLDT/Smart or DITO stocks/shares, it's time to rethink how their sales WILL be affected by honest folks who can't register and automatically disconnected. This will lead to them not being able to be reached by paying customers.
There are a lot of senior citizens and far flung provinces where they mostly take calls from paying customers but does not have enough signal for 4G/5G.
