I noticed that you use your smallest brushes most of the time and I think this painting took much longer than most of your demos, so I learned that I need to slow down and revisit smaller brushes to get more realism. I'd say that your following and breaking rules back and forth resulted in "realistic plus"! Incredible 3d realism but with very unique, painterly, and gorgeous flair - a true artistic piece and not another lesson in photorealism. Thank you, Kristy!

I have watched every video you have ever put on RUclips and just finished watching all your Instagram reels. I have learnt so much from you that I now get comments. Every time I bring out my watercolours and start playing around even when I’m doing colour swatches people say things and it’s got a lot to do with the joy I have now felt with watercolours. It’s not about perfection. It’s about enjoyment and out of enjoyment comes Beauty. Thank you so much Christy for sharing this and making it available to people who couldn’t otherwise afford classes it means a lot and I can take you. With me when I go into hospital which is really nice and I can land a while I’m in here and not be bored.

Thank you!

I love this style of painting and for me it borders on realistic but doesn't cross over completely which I totally prefer! I like the look of a blended realism mixed with a more loose style, it really speaks to me! This technique is definitely my go to from now on, you hit the nail on the head for me!! I absolutely love cosmo flowers too, they're just so sweet and joyful like you 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

If I wanted a totally realistic picture of a flower, I’d just look at a photograph! Please keep on teaching me, Miss crazy rule breaker! Love your style! And, yes I’d know a “Kristy Rice” anywhere. Hi kristy just discovered your chanell. AMAZING. I'm from the UK and very new to watercolours. I'm learning watercolour to help with my depression. I've suffered for years with this. I don't consider myself an artist at all but I am enjoying the fact that with watercolour you don't need to be perfect. I'm in LOVE with the cosmo flower you painted. I love growing my own flowers and no 2 are ever the same but your painting is very realistic without the perfection which nature isn't. I've just ordered my Mozart paint pallette can't wait to delve in and play around. Thank you for your bubbly uplifting personality it truly is a joy to watch and listen to you and learn. Much love from the UK.

I think I break the rules without thinking about it. I tend to do what you’re demonstrating.
Mostly it works but occasionally I mess it up. But that’s usually because I forget the golden rule of making sure my paintbrush has the correct amount of water for the amount of moisture already on the paper. Loved this demo ❤

I love this kind of instructional video. Realism is great, love it. But I love the style that you can add to a more modern loose flower. Why? Because I’m not talented enough to do realism. Rule number 16. Know your strengths. Were we up to 16? I do love starting off super light on wet, it feels like a starting place. Also since I don’t know all the rules, I can’t break any of them. I’m getting really close to my liner brush. My husband says, you cheer that brush on when you make a nice line. Yup! I do.

There are soooo many levels of realism in watercolor painting... and considering your usual style, this is incredibly realistic!!! I love at the end how you still add the Kristy Flair (TM) ;) and it works. :) I love every bit of this painting and I appreciate your explanation of how systematically breaking and following rules can lead you in the direction of realism. I noticed throughout the video that you would sometimes seem to return to the Kristy style then almost immediately go back and either wash out some of the "loud" color or try to slow yourself down and use layers. I call myself an artist, but I've only been doing watercolor for about two years now and have learned so much from your videos. I love your style in everything you do! :) Thanks for being awesome and taking us on this journey with you!

Your cosmos flower was magical and realistic mew^^ and it is beautiful and I think if everyone always followed rules in different art techniques that we won't get the chances to make mistakes and It won't give us chances to grow from our mistakes and learn from our mistakes turn our mistakes in beautiful art and some it is good to follow the rules but don't need follow them perfectly because art is were you use your imagination and other techniques from other people that you have learn from them and make own unique techniques that were your own idea and can follow rules were don't mess up and then try breaking rules later when you do realistic painting or can break the rules as you go long with your art work and still come back to the rules at some time and it fun making mistakes because help you learn more^^ and I think painting if is wonderful show your feelings through painting and trying different thing long the way and because fun to not follow rules sometimes you will make something that you never expected to come out of a mistakes mew^^ so I think both work well mew^^ making mistakes helps you let your imagination run wild mew^^ and following the rules give sometimes a new perspectiveto to your art work and ideas and imagination and creativity mew^^ and I really enjoyed watching your video mew^^ your cosmos flower was so beautiful and pretty and elegant; graceful and stunning and magical; whimsical and cute and adorable mew^^

My brushes arrived last week... but my paints are still coming! It’s so frustrating... Amazon tell me it’s with the local deliverer, which as per their tracking app they acknowledge having it, but it’s late and they cannot tell me why! I am unable to raise a query until 11th of April and then I have to contact amazon to get them to instigate the query... meanwhile I cannot use my brushes until I get The pallet... I don’t want to spoil the experience by using the paints I already have 🤦🏻‍♀️😁☹️🥰

Yes you can break al the rules... I dont give a dam for the rules. And yet, I start from light to dark. Bit only in the beginning. And I have lots of realistic animals. And sometimes I start realistic and then I get in the zone and I have surrealistic flowers. But still with an undertone of the real flower... other colors and more interesting... my opinion.. lol...
