Yes, looking realistic, but also painterly, rather than like a photo. Perfect to me!
Ahh exactly what I love ! Thanks!
Of course yours we will look realistic because you’re crazy good! I mean crazy good!
Oh thank you!
Haha, so true!
I noticed that you use your smallest brushes most of the time and I think this painting took much longer than most of your demos, so I learned that I need to slow down and revisit smaller brushes to get more realism. I'd say that your following and breaking rules back and forth resulted in "realistic plus"! Incredible 3d realism but with very unique, painterly, and gorgeous flair - a true artistic piece and not another lesson in photorealism. Thank you, Kristy!
Love the shadows and the tiny lines !
I love the way you think. Going with my gut as I paint. There’s just so much freedom
Stunningly gorgeous. Thank you for this tutorial. For me, this is the style of painting I aspire to.
Had the worst day ever....and came home to this video. Just what I needed - some JOY! Thank you, Kristy!
So glad!
beautiful 🤩…you are so talented thank you for sharing all your skills 😊💗
My pleasure 😊
I love watching you paint wet on wet and talk about what you are doing and what's going on with the paper.. You really helped by explaining the rules and how you broke them. I know it's not your usual wet on dry but please do more wet on wet. Thanks, Kristy!
oh wow, i love it!! cant wait till i have the skills and colours to try this and yes it is very realisticish
Very effective Kristy!, it’s gorgeous!!
Heck YES! Let’s do this!!
Wahooo!!
Love you. Love your instruction. Very inspiring.
I have watched every video you have ever put on RUclips and just finished watching all your Instagram reels. I have learnt so much from you that I now get comments. Every time I bring out my watercolours and start playing around even when I’m doing colour swatches people say things and it’s got a lot to do with the joy I have now felt with watercolours. It’s not about perfection. It’s about enjoyment and out of enjoyment comes Beauty. Thank you so much Christy for sharing this and making it available to people who couldn’t otherwise afford classes it means a lot and I can take you. With me when I go into hospital which is really nice and I can land a while I’m in here and not be bored.
Hey kristy, yet another great video. My bestie and I are on a great journey with you, we have both sets of you brushes and yor paints. I met her at Hobby lobby 3 months ago and I told her about you and she's learning just as much as mewe also have your books we take turns buying your books and we almost have them all. We have painting parties and watch one of your videos and learn together. Thank you for you upbeat glorious personality, we so enjoy watching you. May God bless you in every way imaginal. He brought me this amazing friend I can share you with.😊❤
Oooh I adore this!!! How fun! Painting parties. Wahoo!!
Love your step by step videos and all your talking through the methods you are using.
Thanks so much!
Love how shadowing created a dome like center. Excited to try this
Absolutely realistic-ish. Love the layering and lifting
Just ran across you today and enjoyed your video. A lot of useful information for someone just starting out. Thanks for sharing.
Come hangout more. She’s so fun!
This is SO beautiful! Breaking the rules works!
Right?!
This has been my favourite to watch so far :) Partly because I really enjoy this "realistic-ish" style, partly because I got a shimmer palette for Christmas and am looking for tips on using it, and partly because I planted a garden bed with cupcake cosmos this past summer (Australian!) and just adored how beautiful they were, having never grown them before. Thank you!
I love watching you paint and always love the end result.
I like your Cosmo flower very much, Iook away for a few seconds then I look back at it and the realism really pops.
My favorite flower. Thanks for the rules, and showing how much fun breaking them can be 😊
You are so welcome!
I love this style of painting and for me it borders on realistic but doesn't cross over completely which I totally prefer! I like the look of a blended realism mixed with a more loose style, it really speaks to me! This technique is definitely my go to from now on, you hit the nail on the head for me!! I absolutely love cosmo flowers too, they're just so sweet and joyful like you 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Love this! Break the rules! Color outside the lines! You go, girrrrl!❤️
Yes! Thank you!
Wow! Kristy! I learn so much from you. But that “realistic “ thing? Nope! It’s a painting, and it’s a crazy beautiful one too, but you can only get so realistic. If I wanted a totally realistic picture of a flower, I’d just look at a photograph! Please keep on teaching me, Miss crazy rule breaker! Love your style! And, yes I’d know a “Kristy Rice” anywhere. You just have that unique thing about your work. You crush it!
Oh thank you! You’re so sweet!!
Hi kristy just discovered your chanell. AMAZING. I'm from the UK and very new to watercolours. I'm learning watercolour to help with my depression. I've suffered for years with this. I don't consider myself an artist at all but I am enjoying the fact that with watercolour you don't need to be perfect. I'm in LOVE with the cosmo flower you painted. I love growing my own flowers and no 2 are ever the same but your painting is very realistic without the perfection which nature isn't. I've just ordered my Mozart paint pallette can't wait to delve in and play around. Thank you for your bubbly uplifting personality it truly is a joy to watch and listen to you and learn. Much love from the UK.
Heck yes, let’s do this! :-)
😘😘
I love the way you teach with keeping it simple! So many make it so technical! I do believe there are times breaking the rules work! First learn the rules and then break them! My motto!!😂😊
Hi. Brand new, haven’t even done anything yet! Starting practice and swatching today! I enjoy your videos and positive approach. Thanks.
I am SO JOYFUL that I found you last week! ❤
Welcome!
Very enjoyable, just enough realism. I did not realize you lived in NE PA. I live in Cambria county, up in the mountains. Hubby was from Scranton, Lackawanna county.
Thank you Kristy 😊 ❤ love your videos and beautiful painting
Beautiful.
Totally enjoying this, as I enjoy my time at Kristyland!!!
I’m new!! I’m addicted to watching all of your videos and teaching. I’m enjoying the journey of “playing” as I’m not good at sketching or drawing so this is a huge challenge for me. But I’ve been drawn to watercolors for a long time ! Thank you for your instruction and teaching. ❤
Welcome aboard!
This was just lovely and it looked like it was going to pop off the paper! Realistic, but not! I love it!
Thanks so much 😊
Really love how you built up the layers. Still struggling with that aspect. Just got your new "NO Fear" brushes. This will be my first painting with the new brushes. Thanks for your tutorials.Glad you talk through the steps.
Yes and I’m new to your channel and watercolour hoping to learn lots from you 😊
I'm new here and have been feasting on your videos. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us. And your sense of humor cracks me up! You make learning so much fun!!!
Boop! I always enjoy your videos and cheerful voice. I received my new brushes and travel brush. Love them.
Of course your rule breaking will turn out perfectly lovely.
I love this! The step by step is wonderful and keeps me wanting to really dig into watercolors! It rids me of doubt from my watercolor disappointments!
What a relief! Thank you for this. I was struggling with following the rules. I just needed permission to break them, I guess. This is gorgeous....and realistic. :)
Awesome video thank you, just got my art for joy's sake palette and all your brushes your number 12 round is my new favorite brush! Thanks Kristy!
Beautiful Kristy. I love all your work. I believe this does look realistic; patience is key for painting like this.
It really is!
Always mesmerizing ❤
Definitely enjoying the step by step. I know this isn't your typical style so it's interesting to see how you approach a more realistic piece. I tend to go more for this style but I definitely break the rules.
Awesome, thank you!
I think I break the rules without thinking about it. I tend to do what you’re demonstrating.
Mostly it works but occasionally I mess it up. But that’s usually because I forget the golden rule of making sure my paintbrush has the correct amount of water for the amount of moisture already on the paper. Loved this demo ❤
Beautiful ❤️
I am going to be painting this. Also, when are your new brushes going to be back in stock on Amazon?
Yay! And about 2.5 weeks
Love this! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Gorgeous!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beeeutiful!
thank you i just bought the paint brushes
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Breaking and not breaking! I’m in!
Thx so much, great tips👍And such a gorgious painting, wow!! Oh soooo realistic and beautiful... 😂 !
Beautiful as always ❤
New here...just beginning & bought your brushes & pallete😊 i sooo enjoy you & your teaching methods❣️
I love this kind of instructional video. Realism is great, love it. But I love the style that you can add to a more modern loose flower. Why? Because I’m not talented enough to do realism. Rule number 16. Know your strengths. Were we up to 16? I do love starting off super light on wet, it feels like a starting place. Also since I don’t know all the rules, I can’t break any of them. I’m getting really close to my liner brush. My husband says, you cheer that brush on when you make a nice line. Yup! I do.
Love the step by step. I have a heavy hand with watercolor… ugh. I have no control lol 😂
Love it
Yes, I know it will work. Ihave been watching you enough to know it will work.
I don’t know what a cosmos is supposed to look like! But I love your flower
Only from reading the thumbnail, I know right away that this video is for me. ;)
😂😂
heck yess lets do this
🤩
Here from Sarah Renea Clark’s fan base. Omg! You are so kind and lovely. ❤
Welcome welcome!! And thank you!!
Beautiful
Yes
very pretty
Thank you! 😊
Yes. It looks realistic
There are soooo many levels of realism in watercolor painting... and considering your usual style, this is incredibly realistic!!! I love at the end how you still add the Kristy Flair (TM) ;) and it works. :) I love every bit of this painting and I appreciate your explanation of how systematically breaking and following rules can lead you in the direction of realism. I noticed throughout the video that you would sometimes seem to return to the Kristy style then almost immediately go back and either wash out some of the "loud" color or try to slow yourself down and use layers. I call myself an artist, but I've only been doing watercolor for about two years now and have learned so much from your videos. I love your style in everything you do! :) Thanks for being awesome and taking us on this journey with you!
Yes!
I wish you would explain more about how you decide which side of petal gets the shadows! I get hung up on that part every time 😮
Realistic enough. That is a big compliment because I’m not a fan of photorealism. It looks, as my former painting teacher would say, painterly. In other words, gorgeous! Thank you.
Well said!
I don't mind pencil showing with watercolour! I think they compliment each other! I am finding myself pencil then watercolour rather than just watercolour!
I totally agree!
I think YOU can make it work but for the base line beginner, I think it would be a real struggle.
Heck yes
Love it, very effective!!!
Thak you so much for this great tutorial
Heck yes, let's do this!
Heck yes! Let’s do this❤😂
So beautiful. Did you make the watercolours? They look beautiful
I really enjoy your videos 😊
Glad you like them!
Is there a video about how and when to push the limits on the use of color?
hi I find your RUclips channel when I was watching one sara renae clark videos again mew^^ and I really enjoyed painting and drawing and coloring and I wanted learn more about water color painting mew^^ and more art techniques mew^^ and I have enjoyed watching so far mew^^ and it is very interesting mew^^ and I hope you have wonderful morning and day and evening and afternoon and night mew🌺🌸🪷🪻🌌🏞🌄🌅🧡💛💜🩵💙🩷💐🌼🏵🌷🤗😊🥰^^ and cosmos flowers are one of my favorite flowers mew^^ and I'm going to continue watching your video now mew^^
Sorry... I'm distracted... Is that a lizard on your ring?
Crocodile!!
Love your approach, easy, not too serious. Keep it up❤️
I don't think you're "breaking" any rules. It feels more like you're reinventing them. In any case, you always seem to make sense to me!
New here… 😢 Struggling. I have very little imagination. Got both sets of brushes and watercolours and they are great. But it’s not because I have those that it’s given me imagination to create. I feel I can only do abstract…
Hi, I have recently discovered this channel and I am really liking your videos.
I am new to water colour(I have been painting with water colours for a few months) and i am looking to get some more brushes (mainly for more variety my current brushes are all round tip) and I have been looking into getting the Art for Joy's Sake Brushes or the Free from Fear Brushes as they look very good but I am not sure which to get. Which wolud you recommend I get?
Your cosmos flower was magical and realistic mew^^ and it is beautiful and I think if everyone always followed rules in different art techniques that we won't get the chances to make mistakes and It won't give us chances to grow from our mistakes and learn from our mistakes turn our mistakes in beautiful art and some it is good to follow the rules but don't need follow them perfectly because art is were you use your imagination and other techniques from other people that you have learn from them and make own unique techniques that were your own idea and can follow rules were don't mess up and then try breaking rules later when you do realistic painting or can break the rules as you go long with your art work and still come back to the rules at some time and it fun making mistakes because help you learn more^^ and I think painting if is wonderful show your feelings through painting and trying different thing long the way and because fun to not follow rules sometimes you will make something that you never expected to come out of a mistakes mew^^ so I think both work well mew^^ making mistakes helps you let your imagination run wild mew^^ and following the rules give sometimes a new perspectiveto to your art work and ideas and imagination and creativity mew^^ and I really enjoyed watching your video mew^^ your cosmos flower was so beautiful and pretty and elegant; graceful and stunning and magical; whimsical and cute and adorable mew^^
My brushes arrived last week... but my paints are still coming! It’s so frustrating... Amazon tell me it’s with the local deliverer, which as per their tracking app they acknowledge having it, but it’s late and they cannot tell me why! I am unable to raise a query until 11th of April and then I have to contact amazon to get them to instigate the query... meanwhile I cannot use my brushes until I get The pallet... I don’t want to spoil the experience by using the paints I already have 🤦🏻♀️😁☹️🥰
New here! 🌺🌺🌸🌸
I love you kosmo
Realistic!!!
Do you know when your new brushes will be available again on Amazon?
About 2.5 weeks :)
@@KristyRice Thank you so much! I snagged them with 3 left. They arrive on tomorrow. Can't wait!
❤
What is that sketch book? I need one those!
YT isn't allowing a "boop", but does show I'm subscribed. What to do?
Edit: It booped itself at the end of the video. Thanks for the cosmos.
Do you have a reference photo?
Yes you can break al the rules... I dont give a dam for the rules. And yet, I start from light to dark. Bit only in the beginning. And I have lots of realistic animals. And sometimes I start realistic and then I get in the zone and I have surrealistic flowers. But still with an undertone of the real flower... other colors and more interesting... my opinion.. lol...
