If you can fit RCBOs why would you need to replace the CU? It's literally just a box. And if it was a dual RCD board, you'll get 4 spare slots for future expansion
@@wibbley1 it’s a c3 for a plastic board, arguably c2 if it’s under a staircase or in a fire exit but if there’s no signs of thermal damage I’d code c3. The board was fine at time it was installed so no need for it to be changed under that condition. Looks to me like someone wants to make money😂
@Marc Leslie yeah I agree with new builds, but they aren’t required in this case like you said it’s recommended but it doesn’t say they’re required in the regs book
For the cheap LAP lamps - since you have both, could you do a BigClive style teardown and see if the quality inside is crap as well, or if they've just cheaped on the plastic casing because to be fair, once they're fitted the casing quality shouldn't really matter, but if the inside is cheap and they have a short life now, then that's an issue.
As with any LED, its all about power and heat dissipation. With a plastic casing there is no where for the heat to go. So the poor little LEDs just burn out.
In Australia those extended warranties are even worse, they put completely unreasonable restrictions on them that you don't know about until you try to make a claim We tried to claim after having an issue and they said "You were supposed to bring the car to one of 2 mechanics in the state every 5000km or you void the warranty" (Mechanic was a 2 hour drive away)
the 6-6 probabbly has been declared as such to create a small buffer for people who don't undertand widths... just like height restrictions, generally the height will be a few cm more than stated just in case. also stuff like lift ratings for chains and forklifts etc... they know people will always push the limits so they try to compensate for these eventualities.
Where I deliver for tesco there's a good 3 6"6 width restrictions and I can confirm the 8" van does fit through even though my ass is clenched each time I do it 😂
The warranty deal has been happening for years. My sister bought a car, driving away she discovered a heating issue, she was told by the dealer to call the warranty company to get it fixed. Seems to be a quick easy way of washing their hands of problems they know about
Within 6 months of purchase the dealer is liable to repair the fault and it's up to them to prove the fault wasn't present or developing at the time of purchase. After 6 months it's up to you to prove that it was. Extended warranty companies may not touch a claim within the first 6 months after purchase due to this as you can't insure against a pre-existing fault. They definitely want to time waste though (both the dealer and the warranty company).
At my aunt's house, previous owner changed the floor / kitchen layout and to gain access to the fuseboard, open kitchen cabinet door, clear it out, remove backboard, climb into tiny space under the stairs, and there you have it, fuseboard, meter and main cut-out fuse. 🤦♂🤷♂
@@almilhouse9059 Yeah I mentioned that it's in bad place and should move it to somewhere accessible. That's a good idea as didn't think of putting a smoke alarm in there.
Having driven several makes of vans for nearly 40 years. The Transit has been the most reliable for me and Vivaro the worst. My latest van is a 19 plate Transit Hi-top and my only complaint is the radio is crap.
Extended warranty... I bought a 9 year old Lexus ls460, I then bought a 1 year extended warranty with Lexus for £1200, Within the first 6 months I had over £10,000 in just parts replaced by them.. Not all extended warranties are bad ;)
I think the old LAP lamps had a transformer chopper type circuit in them, that's why they are heavier. Great lams I only had 2 fail out of about 100 over 5 years. Not bad at all. The new ones prob have a capacitor dropper in them making them lighter, time will tell on lifespan. Not had any failures yet.
Nothing wrong with swapping out MCB's for RCBO's, if you get the ok from the manufacture that you're not breaching any warranties, and you torque everything up. You can always fire seal any gaps and fit a fire extinguisher strip inside, note it all down on the test certificate with some photos then you are covered.
One sec you say don't argue with what the customer wants...next section how you gonna maintain that....maybe the customer doesn't care :) I quite like the residual dimly lighting especially for stairs etc
Another reason why I love my social housing new build I have a hall cupboard that's about 10 ft long 5 foot wide and my electrics , gas , telephonic and water all come in to my property via that cupboard so it's super easy access
I totally know About the warranty for vehicle’s. I had issue with one vehicle I had some years ago. I ended up paying my self for the repairs and then selling it on afterwards. Now I’m very particular where I buy and who from.
The width of the gap is irrelevant, what counts is the width of the restriction. If you are wider than the restriction stated, you can be prosecuted even if you can fit through any bollards. They are a legal prohibition, just like speed limits, It's not an advisory or a warning, its a "Do not". Just wait til councils figure out how to take measurements of a vehicle from manufacturer data based on the reg and start throwing out fines much as they already do with weight-based restrictions. Most of all, as someone who relies on flashing lights to help make me and others a little bit safer, turn the damn things off when not necessary! Driving along the street normally/illegally or parked on a patch of grass are not reasons, they just make people ignore them more and more As for extended warranties, they do not release the seller from their responsibilities under the Sale of Goods Act, so a catastrophic failure such as throwing a rod through the block could find them liable.
I have had 6 super cheap home bargins specials in my dining room for about 6 years and none of them have failed , they are the super old ones where you can see the exposed SMD LEDs. Those extended warranties are the same scam being pulled by companies that sell brand-new appliances (not gonna name them though). The appliance is brand-new, it's _already_ under warranty by the manufacturer! You don't need _extra_ warranty on top of the current one, and you don't need insurance for it either - that's covered by your house insurance if necessary. All you're doing is giving literally free money to a third-party company who will do absolutely _nothing_ if you ever try to claim (and have a whole bunch of restrictions they bury in the small print of the contracts) as well as extra free money to the store you bought the appliance from, since they also get a kick-back every time they sell one of those policies. I really don't understand how these obvious scams have been allowed to exist and get themselves legal. Should be utterly illegal yet its not and tons of people fall for them every year.
Isn’t that a ripoff apart from installing a bulky fuse box while installing RCBOs is an option? Your fuse box must be replaced, why?? Because it is a regulation, where is that regulation that says a less than 10 years old fuse box is out of date??? Nobody knows 🙄
