The only difference is Stroke. The Bore on both engines are exactly the same, thus, the myth that 4.6’s are more prone to liner issues than the 4.0, is just that, A MYTH, as there is absolutely NO (0)(NIL) block difference between the 4.0 and 4.6. Only crank, rods and pistons..
The first generation Discovery shared parts with the final Range Rover in 1995 that famously had the soft dash for only that year. The discovery Series 2 1999-2004 also had a similar dash to the final year Range Rover Classic.
That is unfortunately true! I have a friend with the 4.6 and the cylinder liners “slipped” & he had to do a engine block replacement. I felt so bad for him. Luckily the replacement block has been treating him well!
@@ninja63639 They both had the liner issues. Allegedly the they were more conscious and selective of cast blocks when the 4.6 came out, but basically the same.
Have to disagree the 4.6 is about 30 bhp more so a noticeable difference on acceleration and touque is much more to iv just put the 4.6 in to my 4.0 and its night and day

no one caught the hov “imaginary player” reference? 🤣
I’m glad you did!! 🙌🏾😂🤣😂
Isn’t that why were all here?
Here because of that song
Not really, by the question?

Wow!! Thank you for clarifying!! It’s been one of those things I’ve needed clarity on for years!
the difference? "30 to 40 grand, beat it, chump. Do that mess even got leathers?"
😂🤣😂
best truthful review ive heard so far on this vehicle. well done sir.
Thank you!!
you kinda answered the question and im cool with it. i can keep it pushing. thank you
Very insightful and correct. A 4x4 needs tourqe, not HP.
Thank you, yes torque on a steep incline is your best friend!
My absolute favorite bodystyle for the Discovery series!
Definitely!! Mine too! I love the Series I, but this body style further evolved the lines which I love!
@@AlexBeras right. If I could find a nice G4 or Kalahari edition I'd be all over it now. The safari vibes these trucks give off is so cool.
@@NEONPARADlSE absolutely! The G4’s are the ones to have!! Great cars!
I like your style very much: Very sympatic and competent! Best wishes from Sweden!
Thank you! Truly appreciated!

We used to go out partying in that truck every weekend
It’s the perfect truck for it! Fits so many people!!
@@AlexBeras yes! It did man you can have a whole squad with you the owner used to sit all the way in the back on the sideways seats.
What do you mean by the first gen completed in 95 I thought it completed in 97-98
The first generation Discovery shared parts with the final Range Rover in 1995 that famously had the soft dash for only that year. The discovery Series 2 1999-2004 also had a similar dash to the final year Range Rover Classic.
That motor was based off a 1960's Buick 3.5
To me the 4.6 feels a hell of a lot quicker and is known to have cooling and cylinder liner issues.
That is unfortunately true! I have a friend with the 4.6 and the cylinder liners “slipped” & he had to do a engine block replacement. I felt so bad for him. Luckily the replacement block has been treating him well!
So does the 4.0 not have the liner issues?

Good condition of the car, thanks to owner.
What is horsepower and torque specs differences between the two engines?
The 4.0- 188HP/250lb & the 4.6- 222HP/300lb roughly. The 4.6 is definitely better with the towing capabilities
ya'll know why i'm here.
Do them shits even have leathers?
@@Fabrizio7171 😂😂😂
Nooooo that’s not difference ….we know the real difference 😂
Like about 30 to 40 grand! 😂🤣😂
@@AlexBerasthe correct answer is 10k
the only reason i want a 4.6 is the engine sound - i dont care about the power. i keep a D2 TD5 and its enough for my towing
That’s true. The sound of a 4.6 is convincingly enticing!
Nice video, yours looks minty!
Great review !
Thank you!! Great Discovery you have too!

I’ve always wondered about the swap! How has the reliability been so far?

The difference? R: One sucks, the other sucks more. Just use a Buick 340 or 350 short block... aluminum heads and fuel injection is ok.
