Definitely getting better!! Good job and as others have said i notice u constantly and adjusting trim. Never sub trim a helicopter center all your trasmitter trims and check the swash is leveled mechanically
I re-watch my 230 videos up on my channel from a few years back and I can see I really enjoyed that little thing. Sadly I think I have not progressed as much as I would like from then to now.
Ahhh! No Yes it is easier to fly but a crash is far more expensive and difficult to repair. I learned 3d on a nano CPS in the wind. Yes it was difficult but the extra corrections needed will make you a rock solid pilot on larger helis. Plus hit throttle hold you can crash over and over and probably not need to fix more than a tail boom.
Started watching your videos and the second you mentioned you had -24 trim on your remote I had to chime in. NEVER setup trim on a helicopter with a flybarless unit. You are effectively always giving an input from the remote when trimmed. I recommend removing all trim values on the remote and double checking the swash is level. This will fix the drifting you keep getting.
Love the 230s, I have 3 of them all moded differently. Best thing I did was can the dual motor esc and run an individual esc to the main and tail motor and the power performance is much better. It takes some time to the hang of collective pitch and you are doing good👍 the drift might be your swash level double check that.
Watch all the freddy can fly flight lesson videos mainly the 1st and 2nd videos in the series and really start with close to ground hover and orientation practice and u will catch on
P.s. always have your trims centered and get it stable with swash leveling. Messing with the trims throws the flight controller out of wack. And order like 50 extra tail booms 😂
@@P.Trick93 i am! I think i might need a swashplate level or something. So i can get it perfectly level. Gotta work on getting the 230 to stop drifting as much
You can fix drift in stability mode with the trim flight or attitude trim in forward programming… not sure which one, mines a 230 V1 so it’s a little different than the V2 smart. As long as your swash is level you won’t have drift in the stunt modes, that’s 1 benefit to flying without stability, once you put it in a hover it should hold fairly well. And you are supposed to have all trims in all flight modes set to 0. That trim option is mainly for airplanes.
After every crash. This is exactly what needs to be done with the 230 and most helis. Mine flew better after this than it did right out of the box. 1 repair 2 This depends on what 230 you have…go into either servo calibration mode or forward programming-swash setup-subtrim. This puts all servos at center, turns the gyro off, and will allow you to effectively level the swash and set zero pitch at mid stick. Use the zip tie method(look it up) set zero pitch by folding the blades together (look up JJinverted on RUclips) 3 do a calibration (in the manual) 4 trim flight Wham bam!!! Perfect 230s Use stock parts, all those CF parts and different weights make it so you need to adjust gains. I will never use a CF tail blade again, it caused my 230 to spin full rotations on occasion. And the CF main blades made it happen sometimes too. Aluminum swash always on all helis, CF main blades once you get good and can adjust. Stock is your best friend, it saves you a lot of complex tuning.
The calibration tells your FBL what level actually is. If you drift in stunt modes it’s either a swash that isn’t level or your FBL thinks it’s not level when it is and it try’s to put the heli level but it’s wrong.
I noticed on my 230 at the end of the flight at the end of the flight when i put it back in safe mode it would have random hard pull in any direction, but if u land and reset the battery, it will fix it. If your tail wire is damage, you can solder it and heat shrink tube. To hover, try to keep the rotor as parallel to the ground as possible, it takes work with small stick movements to keep it there, even with no wind, got to counter-steer smoothly in any direction the heli wants to drift in, think of a ball spinning on your finger tip, once its balanced its easy to hold there with small hand movements to keep it stable, but if you're to off-centered, the ball will fall, now think of the hand movement you would need to try to save it, thats the kind of stick movement you need to get it to hover.
Thanks a lot for the tips! A lot of people are saying to put all my trim to 0 and try to level the swash thru forward programming perfectly. So i need to figure out where to buy a swashplate level. I did also notice when my 230 is acting weird i either change batteries or like you said just unplug and plug it back in and it flies perfect again lol the 230 is a little weird sometimes but a great helicopter. I’m having so much fun with it. Just need to get that swashplate leveled and keep practicing!
@@SlickBackAnt It's best to keep the trims at 0, you end up losing some servo travel when you use it, same with forward programming (which I never used for swash) . A little bit is ok for fine tuning. If using to much trim, it's best to make mechanical adjustments by making the servo push rod longer or shorter, I just go by eye making 1 or 2 turns at a time on the push rods, test hover and repeat until satisfied, while maintaining 0 degree pitch at midstick. I'm sure a swash level (from Microheli) would make it a bit easier. It's best to test it out trim when safe is turned off. But if u do it with it turned on make sure it doesn't have the weird pull or it will mess up your adjustments. For example, If the Heli is pulling forward, you need down elevator to keep it stable, land it, look at the swash, give it the same amount of down elevator that u had to keep it stable, then adjust the push rod accordingly. Then do another test hover. Essentially you are trying to get to that swash position with no stick input
This exact situation lead to my crash as panic mode did not do anything. I was hovering in Idle up 1 for a while and the moment I put it back into stability mode it went hard back and to the left while ignoring my inputs until it crashed. Have you done anything that you have found rectifies this or is it just something to be aware of?
@@CJ-rg4qumine did the same thing a few days ago! Every time I would fly in mode 1 or 2, and then switch back into smart, it would pull forward pretty hard. Flying this last weekend, second flight of the day,…. Switched back into smart mode after flying in mode 2 and the heli shot off forward with a slight tilt while wagging the tail, fast! Hit a tree then bounced off my neighbor’s garage. Stick inputs did nothing. I haven’t had something like this happen since the days of flying on FM. Parts on the way. When I fix it, I will never switch back into smart. And when I can, I’m gonna switch over to a micro ikon unit. That’ll will solve the problem;)
@@OregonMotorcycle Thanks for sharing that, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I've basically given up on smart mode on the 230 now and I've just been slowing myself down and learning everything on Idle Up 1. That way, I can learn to fly it manually and leave smart out of it, panic recovery is good enough. As for upgrading the FBL unit, I might do the same and pop an ikon unit into mine. I feel though if that's on the table then an entirely new heli is on the table as well. Sorry about your luck, glad you and nobody else was injured in the crash. When mine went haywire it really opened my eyes as to how dangerous this hobby can be as they sometimes do things you don't ask them to do.
What you had happen there seems very similar to what occurred with mine. I had been practising hovering in Idle up 1for a few minutes, flipped back to stability to land, and the heli entered an uncommanded hard rear and left attitude. Panic mode did nothing and it did not respond to my inputs until it flipped over and crashed.
@@SlickBackAnt I'm sorry to hear that, it seems like this is a more common issue than we know. Have you tried updating the firmware on your heli yet? I'm waiting on my programming cable to show up and try this.
The heli should fly stable. If it is not then either your battery is dragging the weight and needs to be repositioned or the swash is not level. But flying the heli in different orientations will definitely make it feel uncomfortable. I think I heard you say about trim. Hopefully you are not using trim. The auto-trim is ok but needs to be done on perfect no wind conditions and if the heli has a perfect swash and perfect center of gravity. Try to fly more without stability and notice those little things. But trim on any FBL is a big no-no. There is a big difference between the trim you add on the radio and the sub-trim you add when centering your servos on the FBL unit. The radio trim is the one you don't want to use.
Dude you should cut your videos. I have to admit I did some fast-forwarding. I think a standalone 230 and a standalone 360 videos would be better. But I could be wrong you have more views on your videos than me :)
