    How much pounds is it

    • @BOSStudios
      @BOSStudios  8 лет назад +52

      The iteration in the video is only about 30-35lbs since I made these bows for the bow battle game I play. You could always use thicker PVC pipe or flatten it against the mold less to make it thicker in order to increase it's poundage.

    I'd recommend letting the PVC cool on its own. Polymers that are cooled too quickly will 'freeze' and be very brittle in different spots. You want to give the crystalline parts time to spread out.

      Our bows weren't undergoing too much stress so they worked out well. I have had a couple brake before though so I won't disagree with you! Thanks for your comment.

    I am fully amazed! I'm so Thankful to you, making this video makes the real bow i wanted come true, Especially when in my country it is forbidden without a license or being a stupid member over an Archery organization, The template and the resources you presented made everything perfect, You are amazing! This video should be really really famous!

    That's cool. I've always made mine by inserting one slightly thinner PVC pipe into another, and pushing fiberglass rods in them. Then, using an open flame to slowly shape the bow. I made one monster of a bow by combining a thin steel rod with the fiberglass ones. Damn thing still makes my shoulder muscles shake. lol

    running the bow under water instead of airdrying makes the bow brittle and more prone to cracking when drawn/hit against things... other words, don't be impatient.. also if you have to wear a mask while heating to avoid fumes.. you're probably heating it up too much. While heating you shouldn't be able to smell fumes if you're doing it properly.

  • @alcirfigueroa3712

    I made mine a few weeks ago with hardwood
    I went outside with my knife and cut a 3" thick hardwood branch and I carved it
    it took me 3 hours to make it take a nice shape, I sand papered it
    and let it dry
    I used a regular percord
    and there you go
    I also made my arrows like that very easy
    I'm able to kill small animals
    I also made a blow gun

    Cooling with water has a better selling point than just saving time. The plastic will cool faster and thus not soften as much, which should improve the draw weight.

    Something seems to be wrong with my first attempt at the recurve. It seems that once I string the bow, it seems to 'turn' and not hold its original shape. Any advice?

    • @BOSStudios
      @BOSStudios  7 лет назад +6

      Yes this has happened to me a few times. What I noticed was that my limbs were too far bent forward so it was actually easier for the bow to be strung the wrong way. Try re-heating the bow and adjusting either the tips or the limbs farther back. It also helps if your tips are flattened so that the string doesn't roll off of it. Hope that helps!

    I used an old pair of cheap flip flops and a circle drill bit to cut out several circle foam pieces. I then glued them together 3 at a time and used them for arrow heads.

    Awesome there is an art to your work, I like your bows very much, I'm not a real archer just an ole disabled Vet I have M.S. and had to retire, but I have 4 boys and like them to get into target practice and stuff like that, if i have a period of time that I am feeling really well, I might think about making them one of these, we are so blessed we live right on the edge of a wheat field so there is plenty of room for them to shoot on. I like your template, great idea well have a good one, on Facebook if you wanna chat sometime thanks for your video~Robert Gamble

    You can try and put fiberglass driveway markers in the pipe to give it higher weight draw and make it last longer. Not sure how because the markers are straight, and the bow is very curvy.

    You could make some real cool three piece takedown bows. Make a jig for the limbs but leave the bottom tubular for at least one inch. Make a riser/handle while leaving again at least one inch tubular at top and bottom. Use one size bigger pvc for the riser so you can push the limbs into the riser. Drill hole through each limb/riser while inserted and put some type of locking pin through it. Like a ball lock pin for example.

    Really cool DIY production. I think I'll make one of these they look like fun. Couple of quick questions: what can I use instead of bow string? Does the paint crack when the bow flexes?

    • @BOSStudios
      @BOSStudios  7 лет назад +3

      I wouldn't recommend it, but many have gotten away with para cord but you could also use artificial sinew. I'd highly recommend just spending the $5 on bow string. Also surprisingly the paint does not crack.

    So the pvc is about 1/2" off the strings line thus the arrow tends to the right. What do i do about it? cutting the pvc 1/2" sounds like a terrible idea. Bending the pvc to the left in the middle sounds bad too. Any suggestions? It is a problem right now since the string scratches my arm as I shoot arrows.( I used 1" pvc pipe ) Thanks in advance.

    Can you use anything else for the bow string that is a more local type option? Or maybe homemade like nylon or twine? I live in NZ so shopping online from America takes awhile to get here. And would that affect the quality of the shooting of the bow a lot?
    Thanks.

    completely off subject im an HVAC technician. May i politely suggest not to spray paint near a condensing unit that is running. its job is to pull air across the fins of the coil. you were clogging it slowly by spraying something that hardens inside of those fins and can't be washed out with a coil cleaner. please dont be offended, just trying to look out for a fellow maker!

    Hey BOS Studios. I really liked your video. It was cool to see how this type of bow is made. I'm actually talking to my dad about us doing this project. I also can't wait for you to possibly sell these bows this summer. Maybe you could start selling foam tipped arrows along with regular arrows, and quivers as an option. Those would be good products to sell along with the bows. Maybe also you could do a video on making those. Hope to hear from you soon.

    • @BOSStudios
      @BOSStudios  7 лет назад

      We created arrows that are no longer just wooden dowels with nerf bullets on the tips haha. The new arrows we made barely hurt at all and the tip is wide enough not to poke someones eyes out. We also require safety glasses now and set rules to keep people from charging each other. I should be doing more pvc bow videos this summer such as making those safe arrows and the bow battle game!

      +Brandon Farley I'm glad you like the bow design! If you end up making one I'd love to see it. Archery is a lot of fun and a great hobby to pursue! I included the bow string link in the video description. Thank you for the kind words!

    Could you make a Japanese Yumi Bow using this method. With a different mold of course.

    Another way is to heat sand then pour it into the PVC, then place it into your mold.

    BOS Studios do you put fibreglass rods in?

      No this project was all about making a cheap, simple bow which I accomplished since each bow cost only about $2.50! I'm not sure fiberglass would agree with all the curves in this bow although I may work with fiberglass bows in the future. Thanks for your comment!
