The fact that the transformation happens so early, literally somewhere around 1:50 or so, feels like a bad sign about this figure.

He’s never done transforming figures in reverse order like this, except with the Digivolving Spirits line which felt intentionally backwards.

I think the reason the "Nicee" line gets a pass for overt sexiness is because they go all in. They're not ashamed at playing to a niche group. This Arcee however is awkward, trying to pass as the original G1 but also trying to attract the male gaze. As a result it's pulled in two directions, as opposed to the Nicee, who knew what they wanted and made a workable figurine _around_ that want.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking.
Isn't faithfully cartoon accurate nor really as "sexy" as Nicee, so it just ends up looking like a fumbled mess of a design that tried to be two things that compromise each other.
arcee was born out of dirigencial "we need a pretty fembot in the cast to lure girly girls to our mostly macho alienr robot franchise"
why do the designer keep fogetting that?

Kinda funny that the G1 MPs are at a point where they're somehow more complicated than the Bayformers MPs, when the latter had more complex on-screen transformations.
That's because the movie MPs have input from Hasbro, whereas they don't with BW and G1 MPs. Takara, meanwhile, is stuck in a very Japanese mentality of how collector figures work in their native country, where they're pretty display pieces, which isn't a bad mentality, they just take it to the extreme.
It's why Arcee is sculpted as she is, why the Trainbots are getting MPs over any classic Combiner (they don't care about Raiden himself, Japan just likes train model kits and toys), or why we don't see not-repainted Cons often (Japan is used to their toylines being almost solely figures of the heroes and their gear as roleplay items).
ehhhh, the difficulty in transforming bayformers designs is a totally different kind of difficulty than the difficulty of adapting the really cheaty G1 designs especially from the movie. they weren't even trying, a lot of characters just straight up shapeshift.
I believe in the first 3 movies, they really tried to make the transformations as realistic as possible, with no mass shifting parts (unlike evasion prime and 2018 bumblebee) and G1 is just morphing blocks and blobs. Love it, but accuracy for bayverse is much more plausible than accuracy for g1.
@@toybonniesfm Yeah that is one thing that's true in the first three Movies you can actually see the individual components of the toys in the In-between shots which makes them all very cool and surprisingly detailed. I think it's funny how the ones for the first three Movies at least while clearly made more realistic don't drastically shapeshift and pull parts out of their ass like in G1. That's why so many of the newer Masterpiece figures in particular have so many issues because a lot of those designs while classic, don't make any damn sense going from Animation to real life one to one.

Fun fact: The guy who originally designed the T30 Deluxe Arcee had the toy looking more proportionate to the original cartoon than the final product.
The reason why then the toy ended with such weird-looking wide hips? Because Takara got the guy who made Kiss Players finalize the design.

The reason Arcee's proportions look so awkward is because this was designed to be remodeled into Nightbird. Not sure why they couldn't make the chest plate at least unique...

And yet, despite the Masterpiece line being accurate to the G1 cartoon, the Masterpiece Nightbird is based on the Takara Legends version and not the actual cartoon. Which, the Takara Legends versions is already a repaint of Arcee anyway.
The Junji Ito R34 joke really floored me, and yet it's not the most terrifying thing in the video, a testament to Jobby's power.

If it’s G1 cartoon Arcee never, the design is impossible to do that since she has zero kibble on her. The way to do it is to either go with the Earth car designs from the comics or give her kibble on her arms and legs.

I think if they just filled her cheeks a bit, lift up the position of her chest and reduce the size of her neck guard then maybe it wouldn't have come off as uncanny. Also, it really needed that beaming smile expression that Azelia had. Would have given her a lot more charm.
Overall, I wouldn't say it's bad. It's solid and has great articulation. But man, if it isn't disappointing. Especially for a Masterpiece line. And the underside for the Car Mode is uuuuuuuuuugly. I've seen third parties do better.

The worst part about this? She doesn't even have the iconic grey gun she uses inside Unicron in the 1986 movie. The small, grey one included with this figure is too small to even be the one shown.

I think the best way to describe mp 51 is that it a shell former where the robot mode looks like you stopped like 5 steps before you where done. like when you show the robot mode I thought the neck would slide down but no. The only thing thats gonna make that thing stand on its own is are thoughts and prayers

Really wish a company would attempt a high quality transformers prime arcee. I feel like with some proper thought put into it a motorcycle could potentially work really well as a transforming figure as you don't need to worry too much about figuring out where all that extra mass needs to go. I also just really like prime arcee

If you're interested in a third party equivalent of him, I'd recommend seeking out BadCube OTS-14 Warrior Steamroll. it's pretty much 1:1 with opening doors, headlights and hood. it even comes with his jetpack (yes, the one people may misattribute as prime's lol)

You know, I always wondered how it would look if they tried making a larger robot mode with the same small vehicle mode. A large backpack ususually is an indication of underutilized mass (or extra features that aren't required). Like a reverse-shellformer
As someone who owns the kingdom delux Arcee I can confirm I don’t want any other arceee figure due to all others have much bigger backpacks.

To be fair Kingdom/Earthrise has the worst backpack, you just remove half of it.
As much as I personally enjoy MP-51, This review was absolutely a blast to watch! I think the figure turned out the way it is because it was the same designer for the Thrilling Thirties Deluxe / Studio Series 86 Deluxe mould that designed this figure but heavily prioritising articulation over aesthetics

Maybe a hot take, but I prefer MP Arcee’s headsculpt over all the other 3P Arcee figure headsculpts. It feels more like the cartoons to me. Yeah, it definitely doesn’t have good expressive alternate faces, but the one smiling face is all I need. Have her nicely posed on my shelf, and with a little clever angling her backpack is well hidden too

Great review! Thank you! Yeah, I'm sticking with my Generations Arcee. It's bad enough they've moved Masterpiece from being ultra-detailed realistic designs to slavish cartoon "accuracy," but doing it badly is inexcusable.

This is why I kept FT Rouge as my Arcee and bought the Nightbird Shadow that uses the Arcee mold cause it looks better as that surprisingly.
I started grimacing when all the excessive panel movement started, I finished when the backpack was shown to be 1/3 of the overall space the robot mode takes up. I can't help but feel the best people in the Masterpiece department at Takara left for the main line or Diaclone departments, considering the uptick in main line quality and number of recent Masterpiece's with engineering or design issues.

I just spent $99 on DX9 Gewalt and felt kind of unsure about it but after seeing such a smaller figure go for $149 I suddenly feel a lot better about it.

I heard the reason the proportions of the figure were off was because it was designed and modeled after the Legacy Manga look(the one with surprise Arcee in an apron) and not the cartoon. So they lied about it being based on the cartoon, the fuckers.
This figure 100% awesome for me. The one transformer that has an excuse for a backpack. And I think it looks good. I've also had this figure for a very long time now so Ive gotten used to how it looks, but even when I got I had no complaints. Still love the review. Hey be grateful it isn't bumble bee

5:12 Fun fact: That SS 86 Arcee figure is a side (or down) - grade of the original generation toy way back then. Do agree the figure looks shit "in promotional", having in hand is different (remember, Hasbro was never good at making the promotional pictures look good).
I'll say this: that ss86 and the MP is better than the Earthrise one... Trust me. Though all are being beaten by the ss85 (Bumblebee) Arcee.

I would like to say that in my humble opinion that the chug Arcee (Studio Series 86) is infinitely better than this whatever takara calls "masterpiece".
Yes she has a backpack but even though she has a backpack she looks INFINITELY BETTER than this garbage and worst of all the chug Arcee looks great in proportion wise though.

I think ive given up hope for a perfect Arcee, her transformation from a big brick of a car to a slender woman is physically impossible and designers only ever use her for horny bait nowadays
I mean, I think I figured out a Way to Pull it Off, but it won't be easy to Design it...
