    Jacob calls out the triangle lock switch, but I'd also point out that often times Gordon will rotate such that the trapped arm is on the bottom (next to the mat). I've copied this and found that it's harder for my opponent to rip their arm out of the trap, since the mat provides a backstop. Is it necessary? No. You can see he finishes Tonon with the trapped arm on top. But when he was setting up to finish Galvao, he rolled such that Galvao's trapped arm was next to the mat. This might have something to do with the fact that Galvao is yoked to superhuman levels and as such is more of a threat to rip free due to pure brute strength, so Gordon wanted to close that door before working to dig a choke into the non-neck of Andre.

      Yes! That's a solid point too. I know some guys can kinda limp arm out from there if you don't. I think there's times where he skips some steps against certain opponents but I agree, I think that detail does make it a lot more secure.

      I heard godon say in some interview or podcast that it was actually galvao who rolled to the far side, which gordon says was a big mistake

    This analysis really helped my back attacks. My favorite thing to do is to trap the arm with the leg but I kept getting my arm stuck on the leg that trapped the arm. This process of control allowed me to switch hands and trap the arm, I was able to submit 3 of my training partners during rolls

    Awesome video. Definitely subbed. Just wanted to add 2 cents on when Gordon finishes with one arm vs two. I know he's said before that when he's laying on the side of his bottom arm (in the seatbelt) that he likes to finish with one arm if he's all the way dug under the chin. But if he's over the jaw or the face, he'll take the extra risk to get a full figure-four grip, since it's rarely plausible to finish with one arm while still over the face or the jaw. On the rare instances he's laying on the top arm side of the seatbelt, I've not heard him speak about that, but I don't know if I've ever seen him do the one arm finish on that side. On that side he usually just goes full figure-four grip.

    Something I notice in several of these examples you provide is as soon as he gets the arm trap he switches hips and brings his body triangle to the other side - with the lock on the opposite side of the trapped arm. That seems like it leaves less space than keeping the lock on the same side as the arm. I'll have to play around with it to confirm

    • @grapplingwithjiujitsu
      @grapplingwithjiujitsu  Год назад +1

      Thank you for watching! Its kind of a shitty, evasive answer but to me, the best defense starts at prevention. Start with avoiding, if do get caught, you have to undo the early offensive steps(if they haven't connected the seatbelt, you can focus on turning toward them, then try to block the connection. If they do connect the seat belt, the focus should be on undoing the grip. If you cant undo the grip, you're probably stuck.) Hard answer to hear sometimes but the reason these positions are so valuable, is that they work. So if the guy on your back is doing everything right, you shouldn't be able to escape.

    • @TheDomLouis
      @TheDomLouis Год назад

      @@grapplingwithjiujitsu thanks for the explanation and agree that prevention, is ideally better than having to deal with the aftermath. I'm ok at getting out from a normal back control (some videos on my channel where I'm practicing back escapes), but I recently got caught with a back control where 1 arm was trapped and couldn't quite get out, so had to tap.

      Yeah, looking back I agree. I used a more mellow sound in the newer videos. I do want some type of audible indicator for a pause, motion stops a lot in jiu jitsu so its hard to tell if its paused sometimes.

      @@grapplingwithjiujitsu when you pause put the pause symbol on the screen. Like the II in the middle test might help instead of the audible noise.
