The jellyfloats can actually kill pikmin, it just takes a very long time and they only consume one at a time so you shouldn’t worry about losing any to them.
I can vouch for this. I tested it out of curiosity years back to see if they truly could and it turns out they can. But as you said it takes a while so the threat level is pretty low.

I wonder why many Pikmin die when they’re trapped in jellyfloats for a minute or two. Maybe it’s because the Pikmin can’t stand the fatal pressure inside those jellyfloats where they are unable to breathe? Idk
