Environmental Disaster Near The Railroad Diamonds! Oil Spill Muck Mess, Abandoned Railroad Crossing!

- Worst Railroad Oil Spill Ever! Large Area Of Hazardous Waste Spill At An Abandoned Railroad Crossing Next To An Occupied Home. Railroad Diamonds being crossed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotives, Norfolk Southern freight train passing through the muck mess and railroad maintenance of way equipment dropping tie plates with an electro magnet.
The muck mess of Muncie comes from a flange greaser. This stuff is close to a foot thick in places and spans over 50 feet of mainline track. I hope the people who live next to it don't have a cat or dog running loose. Could you imagine getting that tracked into your home? I notice this type of stuff because I retired as a county health inspector and this is the type of nuisance that we would get abated. The really cool thing in this video is watching the BNSF locomotives cross the diamonds and then immediately cross the 4 track railroad crossing! We see a Norfolk Southern freight train take the wye just south of the diamonds on the NS New Castle Sub. We also see an electro magnet picking up large steel tie plates and having them dropped along the track for replacement. They dropped the tie plates along the tracks on both sides for a distance of about 300+ feet but then for some reason they picked them back up except for about a 100 foot section of track. I have no idea why. Does anyone know why they would drop them and then pick most of them back up? Is it for training or what? Don't forget to see what Chessie, Norfie and the gang are up to! We also have the slide show at the end.

Dang it!.....forgot about that!😆👍
An a wasp exterminator!!😂
@@sideburns2222
I remember that!🤣👍
Wow! BNSF train took the curve and headed right for you - that looks so cool! Had to smile at that overactive flange greaser - what a quagmire!
4:00 if that derailed on that diamond (seems rather fast) you better be able to sprint very quick JT 😂😂🇬🇧
Great shot of those Pumpkins going thru the Diamonds Son ... Thx for posting it ...
Great video, love that angle of the Pumpkins turning through the diamond, and the evening light on the NS train was cool too. Great video, JT👍
Thank you very much!
That was interesting seeing that train cross over those other tracks.Perfect capture of both trains.
It is really interesting and I love the rhythm of the wheels hitting the different flanges. In the previous video taken in the same locale, the beat is really distinct.
Thanks Steve!
Yeah I was going to say the same thing. Signaling is critical I'm sure lol.
Thanks for the negative report on the flange greaser.
Jaw Tooth..never dissappoints..there is always more live action.
Thanks for watching !
Wow, I didn’t expect that first train to make that sharp turn - it looked like it was coming right at you! Very cool. Yuck, that muck was disgusting. I’d hate to be on the crew that cleans it. I think Brandi is my favorite dog! Great video. Thanks again, Jaw Tooth.
It was cool seeing that first train cross over. That flange greaser sure was messy. Could you imagine stepping in it? Lol. Great video!
Thanks 👍
like steppin in dog crap :/ only twice as messy
@@MrMSpike One advantage: it won't smell as bad!
id say thats the only advantage lol but I gotta admit steppin in it personally? it is putrid enough to make one vomit
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo comme toujours ! ✨✨
👍Thank you very much! 🙏
You always find the best vantage points. I love the Pumpkins, too. Thanks Jaw Tooth!
I love that kitty 🐱 in your study JT.. another excellent video thanks for the reading of the information on the rails..
Looks like that flange greaser wants turning down! Putting far too much grease out and most of it going to waste on the ballast. If it gets on the rail head on a gradient it's no fun as you can very easily slip to a stand. I've done that on a wet day with a steam train quite a few years ago. It's no fun if you get graphite grease like we used onto your overalls it gets on everything you touch! Modern grease is not so toxic, but it's just as messy.
Thanks for the tips
What the heck does a flange greaser do?
@@billkea7224 Thanks for the interest in flange greasers! They come in several designs but all aim to do the same thing which is to apply grease to the flanges of wheels as they go past the greaser. The wheels carry the grease into the curve to provide lubrication to the rail where it contacts the wheels. It reduces wear of the rail and the root of the flange and so prolongs the life of both by reducing the need to change rails on curves so often and also reduce the need to machine the wheels to keep them to the correct profile.
They used to apply graphite grease but now it's mostly a less polluting vegetable based grease, but it's still messy stuff as it has to stick to the wheels and the rails to do its job.
It's the outer rail of the curve which takes all the side forces as the train goes around the curve, which can be heard as the sqealing sound often made as they round curves.
The greasers can usually be adjusted to put more or less grease out as the wheels go past it but sometimes they put out too much and then grease gets everywhere. If too much gets onto the top of the rail it can cause loco wheels to slip so the greasers need to be regularly inspected (usually when they are being refilled on a planned maintenance schedule).Looks like the one in the video needs to be turned down a bit!
@@rodsmith3911 Thanks for the lesson. I asked because we had one on a rail line next to a site i was doing an environmental assessment. Didn't look as bad as this one, but it was a concern to me.
@@JawTooth CSX uses an enviromentally friendly lubricant. It's just a mess, not the environmental issue you think it is.
Morning JT nice to show the rail crew, hard at work
Morning!
morning coffee and diamond 💎 crossing---- Another great JT video
Great video JT! Kind-of reminded me of thee south side of Chicago back in the 70's. Track everywhere crisscrossing in the middle of intersections and whatnot! 😊
Hubby and I are a bit partial to BNSF orange, too, because that's what we see all the time. Tracks are about mile and a half from our house. But several days ago the DPU on the back end was one of those old green and cream BNSF locomotives. Every so often we see one of them. Like your live action of dropping off tie plates. Wonder why they went back and picked them up. Boy, the EPA needs to get on them to clean up that gunky mess. That's awful! As always, we enjoy your train videos. Keep them coming!
That oil mess is crazy! Nice catch on the BNSF locomotives!
I like watching trains cross through double diamonds like that.that one's a trip.
Good morning to you, JT!!
Same
Morning!
@@JawTooth Good Morning to you
And Mrs JawTooth
Thank you, JT for another awesome railfan video from Muncie, Indiana. Tell the Mrs.’ I too love the BNSF paint job, it’s my favorite also. Love the commentary as well, thank you.
Great video Jawtooth as usual. You do a great job on these videos. There’s always plenty of trains. Thanks 👍❤️
Perfect positioning on the first one. One of the best catches I've seen in a long time. Love how she comes down to a bend, crosses over two tracks, has a street crossing, then continues on to another bend. Cool track layout.
Very good video, I liked it my friend, have a nice day and greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
The sound of metal against metal, great video
Yes I have seen tie plates being unloaded with an electro magnet. In my earlier days I would get called out for work trains off the extra board. We would stay on it until the work was finished or up to 6 days which ever came first. We were upgrading our mainline to 136 lb welded rail. To go from 50 to 60 MPH max speed. We would unload ties, spikes, the rail, and the ballast?
Awesome and thanks for your comments!
Were those with e clips or just spikes? Were those lagged down?
I love filming wyes and diamonds! Something about them just excites me: seeing multiple rail lines intersect or interchange each other, the sounds the trains make as they go over the rails, and seeing trains meet just adds more fun to railfanning!
Couldn't agree more!
Hoosier railroading at its best! Greatly appreciated!!
Thank you very much!
Great video! All that grease is really a bad mess. Hopefully they will repair it and set it. That mess is going to be a real task cleaning up not to mention expensive. Awesome video, thanks for sharing your work. Happy railfanning!
Awesome video, dude that was alot of grease around the tracks.
Yeah thanks
Thanks for another great video from my hometown.
What I thought was very cool was watching the first train come down the tracks and so smoothly takes a left crossover to the other tracks. That was awesome!
Very cool video seeing the train crossing over the diamonds! Thanks for catching that!
Thanks for your latest upload. Another interesting video.
Greetings from Derbyshire, England.
GREAT VID! ref the spill/mess: the lube used in those systems is normally organic. so there should be no real problem other then the way it looks. it is a bummer they do not keep it cleaned up. most greasers have liners up and down the track to catch the stray lube and make it easy to pick up and a new liner put down.
I think somebody needs to come out and dial that flange greaser back a little! Great video JT!
Way cool 😎 👌.
You are boss. Thanks again for sharing.
I read probably 20 years ago they use vegetable based grease products that are environmentally friend grease on flange greasers
You find some good spots, Jawtooth! Keep them coming...thanks.
Thanks for another great video 👍 Like all you pointed out at the 2nd location, keep'em coming 😎🇺🇲
Thanks, will do!
👍🏻🚂😎🐕🐈 all your animals look very happy 👍🏻
Yes, we treat them very well
Great video JT. The 1st train coming over that diamond looked like it was going to come straight at you... some over those sunset shots around the 2nd train were great...
I love your lemon shirt! 🍋 Thank you for another great video! Love from Maine ❤
Co. Health Inspector!! Dad gum brother!! I'll bet you made alot of friends in the restaurant business 🤣 But then again, if you keep your kitchens clean and sterile (As they should be) You got nothing to worry about 😁👍 Good stuff there JT 👍
Looks like the flange oiler kept running until the tank went dry. For the last 15 years every lubricant we use at the paper mill where I work is vegetable based to lessen the harm if there is a spill. Wouldn't be surprised if the railroads use the same products. Bonus footage a plus! Thanks for the video.
From what I've been told, they use soy based grease.
You're the best! RAD! Watching your videos every day brightens my day. Best wishes
Glad you like them!
Indeed as always thanks. Chris from England
My pleasure!
Thanks for another great video thanks again for sharing this awesome video
All that grease on the tracks like that-ewwwww, what a mess! Wouldn't want to step in that. Great video. Have a nice day😊🌈
Thanks, you too!
Great job nice place lots of Action . 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 looks like Jess what’s to drive 😂 . Nice over and out 👍🏻🇺🇸🇨🇦 Robin .
I love that intersection...so many rails. A great video. Yep, that's one greasy track, but at least the wheels are not screeching. Overdue for clean ballast.
Good point. It was quiet in that regard.
Amazing videos jaw tooth keep up the good work
That first train suddenly turning into that branch line was a great catch ! I was taken by surprise - thought it would stay on the main line. The flange grease machine might need some maintenance to regulate the amount of grease - an inspection from a Federal or State Environmental control agency will get the railroad's attention. Good that you caught the railroad signal aspect for the second train - clear track at medium speed. Thanks.
OT: This dogs are so nice, i could watch them playing around for hours. 👀👀
Wow! Amazing freight trains!
I loved the really interesting routes running through the diamonds. You always find the best locations and vantage points. Brandy had an awful itch didn't she ? And , I had no idea that Norfie was moonlighting as your Secretary! 🐈💕
Another great video, thanks! What a mucky greasy mess on the track - they should be cleaning that up - but I guess it's on rr property and we're not supposed to see it. 🙄
Great video.. Also enjoy seeing the pups.
Thanks 👍
Another great video JawTooth, from Robb In Suffolk Virginia
Thanks. We're sure they handle environmental items assiduously.
😃 great video!! Love seeing the family pets at the end.
You are so kind
That was cool how that BNSF took a hard turn over the diamond... 👍 Wooooooooooo !!
Hahaha good way to put it, a "muck mess"... That's cool, kind of old fashioned way to pick metal up with a powerful magnet !!
Awesome live action Video !! 👍👍👍
Electro magnet we would use on LIRR after a track project and they would put old plates in a gondola car and then off to swap yard I quess . Love your videos Jawtooth they bring back good memories .
I seen one of your train segments from Marion, Ohio.. my room mate in the military was from Marion.. I been their a few times.. Thanks for your videos..
I don't know a lot about trains but I'm learning a lot on this channell thanks for all you do jawtooth
Glad to hear it!
Great video Appreciate the work you do
Very entertaining
Excellent video!!
It's my favorite colors too,JT! Love BNSF and its Halloween colors. Interesting video and always like the videos of the cute pets.
Thank you so much 😀
Hey JT If you ever want anything to know about how the MOW works on the railroad with ties, rail and surfacing, in my career on the railroad, I basically done just about all different jobs on those gangs. Great video as always!
Good morning as always with very good videos greetings to the American Union
Morning!
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome!
I love how that crossing is made. Nice video
Thanks!
Wow, I’ve heard of flange greasers before, but holy cow that’s a nasty mess never seen that before, yea that could be bad if not cleaned up but how?. Night shot of the 2 BNSF “Pumpkins” on the first NS train. Nice little hotspot There in Muncie. U take care JT. Nice job.👍🏼
Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth no problem JT.👍🏼
Great live action there. I love the sound that made when the train goes over the diamonds. You'd think they'd clean up the flange greaser more often. Interesting work on the tie plates. I like to operate the magnet crane, lol. Hey Chessie and Brandy! Getting into the dog days of summer. Hey Norfie! Hey Jaw Tooth, what is the name of your rooster in the beginning of your videos?? Looks like a good rooster!
1:05 is the locomotive rocking too much on the bend? Or is that fairly normal. The autoracks seemed to rock quite a bit as well.
They always rock like that coming across that diamond. It`s got a bit of a curve to it and the cars and locos sway some as they go over it. Some more than others!
😅thanks for the nice video again,Brian.manny greetings from Tony, she is okikidooo.😅
Thanks! 😃
Excellent two trains and cool seeing them dropping tie plates JT!!
Thanks!
@@JawTooth You're welcome!!
Never seen a Solar Grease box. Out here in the west the flange lubes have a button in the rail that mechanically pumps the grease to the insides of the rails. They must maintain them better here as there's no messes this large that I have seen. Great video JT, ❤️ the dogs
Interesting! Thanks for watching !
Cool train nice work
Some of the flange greasers I have seen have a galvanized metal pan under them to keep the grease from getting into the ground. They also have the metal pans at fueling locations.
If that NS did come from Detroit, my neice is probably the conductor.
Great video j t ,so interesting, what is a flange greaser, keep them coming
Nice job!👌
Thanks!
ChainsawN&W1218, nice video of the BNSF run-through power taking the diamonds and NS grainer rolling through the flange greasers on the Wye track 🛤👍.
Thank you very much!
Nice catch of the BNSF mixed freight train that had quite a consist of cars! I'd like to have a couple pieces of that scrap rail to put on some ties etc at the end of our driveway to cross when you pull in. Nice catch of the NS Grain Train and seeing that disgusting pile of muck by the rails was definitely an environmental hazard. I'd feel sorry for an animal to walk through that. Anyways, thanks again JT for your PRICELESS time and effort to get the best footage possible for us!
Thanks for this video.
A brush rug might help Brandy to scratch her back.
I enjoyed that video 👍👍
I was remembering when you filmed a coal train on a windy day and the dust was blowing everywhere. I was imagining the mess if that dusty coal train was going over that grease.
Happy Friday Junior everyone 😁👋
Liking the money shot on that second train. Nice close up!
Another great video thanks!
That sofa looks like the type you'd fall asleep on .
Can imagine sittin' there with a ice cold Coors watching another ' Jaw tooth' video.
This comment is not sponsored by Coors in any shape or form by the way 😂
Like that first train view!
Cool, thanks!
Oil is a natural part of the environment.
Good video Jawtooth
That's a pretty sharp turn to go thru the diamonds.
Sensacional guerreiro! 👍👏👏
Good afternoon from New Orleans la 🌞🌞☀️
Nice cross over from one section of track over top the other tracks
Awesome video but wait there’s more 👍😎🇺🇸🚂
