From what I can tell, the reason the units seem so glitchy is the recent update that removed the chat feature. The replays don't save a video, they record all the commands given in the battle by the players, then has the AI runs a "new" battle with those timestamped commands. Its why the replay files are so small, basically just a saved list of timestamped commands. When you see units just sitting there, its because in the real game, they died or broke, but the update causes a hiccup in the replay, and they are still in the replay battle. The AI has no more unit commands for them so they just sit there, and since they had died in the battle nothing targets them. Units break earlier than they did in the battle, then any commands that they got are no longer able to be carried out and the kills they continued to get are no longer happening in the replay. Units that did break, manage to stay in the replay ( they don't typically move) but they will continue to expel their ammo- skewing the way the battle happened. Its a compounding problem, so the longer the replay the more it deviates from the actual battle. The deviation seems to come mostly from breaking/not breaking when they should have, so units with particularly ... flexible moral stats tend to be the largest deviation points (like elephants). Cav suffers quite bad too, as attack orders will often have them running into units that didn't exist. The recent update basically broke all replays that were recorded before the update (maybe all replays). I tried to rewatch several of my city assult replays, and every last one of them are VASTLY DIFFERENT from the way the fight actually went down. On one particular siege match I had won with 3542 kills (my best match), but when watching the replay I lost with only 1920 kills. Years of saved replays are now unwatchable, and completely useless
Fun fact: I justcame home from a vacation on Rhodos, and there was indeed a notice in the museum about how Rhodos was famous for its slingers in ancient days, Apparently they were known to sling both heavier bullets and further than persian slingers did
This replay is very odd. It almost plays as if the replay is broken; the Macedonian player seems to leave units unattended a lot and makes AI level mistakes like sacrificing units into the pike lines. but at the same time the Epirote player leaves his units inactive and lets cavalry tear apart his skirmishers without much opposition
4:32 the beauty of the tracian units... I have to say again how much this game is beautiful. Look at Troy's battles. There's a huge difference, Rome 2 is so more realistic, it's amazing

I like royal peltast, especially as the general. The idea that of the general throwing javelins is pretty fun. I wonder there is an historical javelin throwing general?
Sooo.. CA fucked up again? I did briefly read the update but what was the point of removing the chat feature other than it being "archaic" I think is the word they used. Did it have some kind of negative I wasn't aware of?
they removed it from every older game of theirs. they are trying to kill the scene for them so that we're forced to buy Pharaoh, which is just a full price asset flip of Troy.
Why can't CA put the mods "Pikemen start battles with pikes" by Boicote's Workshop and "Proper pikes" by Gieldur's Workshop" into the game, as I have never heard or read about any pike units not lowering their main armament before advancing, or the insanely heroic, moving into contact with pikes up, then lowering after contact has been made. The Proper pikes allows pikes to be used sensibly by nations who adopted the pike as their main armament, or else why would they? Then maybe Macedon and the like would use the weapon that made their name in history. I do understand the Macedonian all arms, hammer and anvil techniques but why would anyone use pikes in their current state, other than for blocking?
IMO Thessalian Cav is one of the best cavalry units in the game. Strong offense, good enough armor, pretty quick for heavy cav, great charge and great price.

thanks for the explanation.
But I think you can still roll-back the update to watch the old replays.
Great job CA
ahhhhh so basically. the games more broken than usual. perfect.
So useless Update - Made MP much worse :/
Ironic that the Macedonians are facing pikes but they don't have pikes themselves.

Flanking pikes is micro intensive handling pikes is not easy it's so also micro intensive, but if u can manage pikes u will every game

Royal Peltast on Royal Peltast action, hot!

This is possibly the strangest replay I've ever seen
Would not want to be the captain to tell those thracian mercenaries to throw themselves onto pikes 😅
Video description is wrong

@@Alelip1000 Thanks for comfirming bud. I had a feeling it was just that and I can't say I'm surprised. CA continue to be absolute scummy cunts.
Why did Macedon charge his thracians like that😂
They were more or less fucked. They either died on the pikes or attempt to retreat and get killed by the slingers.
@@dasvildanya I think the play would have been to reposition them on the flanks once he saw the Epirote formation.
The meta in time 2 has changed so much since I played. 2 and a half k hours into that game 🥲. And the last total war I played.
how sa that CA is trying to destroy these old AWSOME games of theirs, in order to "persuade" us to buy the crappy reskin of troy... how sad
Yup. Their company can crash and burn now for all I care. How many times can they spit in our face without us retaliating? RIP TW
