Two days ago, at my mother's funeral service, I borrowed this to play over a photo slideshow of images of her life. Not a dry eye in the house. Simply heavenly. Thankyou. 💔
You play with a sensitivity that approaches magic. I always listen to your recordings--few others, because I'm a luthier and always bombarded by requests to comment on someone's dubious masterpiece. Thank you for this one, in particular--my favorite--so sweet it still seems to have dew on it. Kudos, Mr. Jinariu.
This tune started off its life as "The braes of Balquidder" which is a place in Scotland and as many folk songs do it has changed and evolved. I would love to hear a fine Scottish voice sing along to this. This lad gets every note to sound special, a real tribute to the song.
A simple, relaxing, deeply evocative piece, appealing to our most serene and Human side, which only defect is to be so short, like a cloud that was suddenly taken away by another gust of Wind... Beautifully interpreted by this sensible soul who happens to also plays a Guitar. Well done, Mr. Jinariu. Thank you for such an indelible magical moment. And may you be blessed to play like this way, forever.
Years ago I bought your CD including this music, but can't find it now. So I'm now listening to this RUclips. Your beautiful play still gives me goosebumps!!!
This performance and arrangement are far an away the most sentimental and soulful that I have heard. It’s simplicity belies the emotional complexity of the composition, sometimes less is more, just a drop D base sustains the melody. He played this piece on a Córdoba Torres guitar and inspired me to purchase one🤗 , not the $40+k guitar played here, but more than sufficiently resonant.
Gorgeous. The bass notes really sing, providing a great foundation for the beautiful melody. Great job Tavi! I'm sure somewhere out there Maestro Tennant is drinking a cup of coffee and smiling
Ha! Or maybe he is choking on his coffee :) Mr. Tennant is such an amazing player; I would love to take a few lessons on some Rodrigo pieces from him one day. Keep up the superb work you are doing Taso. Cheers!
The length of Tavi's fingers. One of the reasons why he's so damn good. Look at the other world class classical guitarists, not many of them have the hands he has.
I assure you that the length of the fingers is irrelevant. what plays an instrument is the brain. So he is good because his brain is good at music and that is a combination of things, of course talent, but above all dedication and practice with the mind...
I must be lowbrow, but hearing Scott Tennant's rendition left me feeling he hurried the passages too much. the flowing and wistful phrasing Tavi chose seems to me to better reflect the musical mood and dwell on the dreamy feel of this piece.
One way or another the Jose Ramirez concert guitar remains the instrument to be beaten by others. In fact a compliment as it has become a standard in the classical world and in fact still is. This guitar, again, has been recorded in a very nice way and of course the soulful playing with great tone by Mr. Jinariu remains a pleasure to look at and listen to. As with all guitars it heavenly depends on what kind of music you are playing on how an instrument reacts. To my experience the Ramirez guitars are one of the most versatile instruments and that makes them not always the winner in one style at the same time. Choose the right guitar for the right piece of music but OK , I know, a luxury situation!
Lovely use of rubato and the Segovia “slicing” strokes for the melody. Maestros Jinariu and Tennant represent the varied sonic possibilities of playing this piece. Each has his own approach which represents the wonderful diversity within the classic guitar community. Both renditions have much to tell- listen closely and feel yourself propelled to a different space...

+ane urme a remarkable player plus a cheaper instrument always trumps a beginner with the greatest guitar money could buy. not that this is a cheap guitar, heh.
As far as an older guitar (used one) It's hard to determine what it's been thru unless I can see it in person! ...and thank you, Brazilian Rosewood is my favorite of all woods!
@@dixiewarrior6102 I did find one a couple yrs. ago ...down here in Florida! I couldn't afford it at that time ...beautiful guitar tho, the action is a little high on those ...and a lotta $$
I'm obviously the odd one out, but while I greatly admire Tavi's playing, I don't like Tennant's interpretation and I find that guitar quite raw and harsh??
Some guitars sound better to people than others. I played a guitar in Italy which practically played itself. The sound had a crowd teary and everyone was so peaceful and helpful to one another. I tried to buy it but he wouldn't sell. I am a student of a student of Segovia. Everyone started singing and seemed to know words they'd only heard me sing once. It was so, so joyous. The instruments are tricky. I have two nice guitars, mine and my father's, I am seeking to swap for one better adapted to my very small, weak hands. xo from Paris, France via the USA. ;)
zamplify You bring such intelligence to the discussion. In my view - and I make no apology for it, as I have known the tune all my life- Tennant's interpretation debases an otherwise lyrically- beautiful tune.
I like both but I thought Tennant's version more true to the inherent folk background and therefore not out of place here. On the other hand, Tavi's seemed a bit too formal in my estimation.
NormanMac Thanks for your comment, Norman. I think the Scot, Matthew McAllister has a much better feel for and interpretation of the tune and plays a more compatible-sounding guitar than this - it's a softer, less rigid, more free-flowing sound than this. He still includes Tennant's damaging, unnecessary trills, though!!

Tavi played this song at my wedding and everyone loved it. People passing by stopped listening. Truly amazing guitarist and piece. Thank you Tavi.

Very beautifully played! I hope you're doing well, my friend.
Nice performance. Beautiful sounds.
Beautiful arrangement of a special song beautifully played by Tavi on a gorgeous guitar. What is not to like?
wow!! amazing playing..so smooth and clean
I think this is my favorite guitar on youtube.
Sehr schönes Lied, sauber mit Gefühl gespielt.

beautiful!!
This piece 'Wild Mountain Thyme' is so intensely beautiful to my ears. Unforced, patient, and honest. Is all traditional Scottish music like this?
Stephen Huddleston yes all
Hi I thought I would tell you that it is not Scottish it is an Irish
it is SCOTTISH
It's called "a traditional Scottish song."
@@coddenhamjohn The tune is a traditional Scottish air called The Braes o' Balquidder.
excellent playing !
Just close your eyes and let your mind float..Magic!!!!
Thats a pretty good sounding guitar
a 1a Ramirez a few years old will sound good or the player would not have OK'd the selection of it
I wish you could teach me!!!! Online!!! I live far away.. But I've never heard anyone play so well.
+Misha Snowie theres a tab for it on a blog called nothing-but-tabs
You sir are very accomplished guitarist
Must have this guitar
tenia tiempo que no escuchaba una Ramirez (de las de ahora) que hiciera honor a su legendario nombre, que instrumento mas completo,
Bravíssimo!!!
Bel pezzo e ottimo strumento
Pure Geniousness!
A pleasure to hear you ! :) the arrangement is beautiful. who is the Publisher ?
Foarte frumos interpretat...
I like Mr. Jinariu on the cedar Ramirez best out of all the other guitars.
Excellent! Well done. 1:56 until the end is exceptional
bravo
Nice.
Man, what I would give for those fingers.

waw this guy is pure brilliant

damn it... ive seen enough videos to confirm u literally cant make any guitar sound bad

I'm thinkin' about gettin' a Ramirez ..........any feed back here?
Find an older one with Brazilian rosewood and check if the fingerboard fits you as all of them are different.
As far as an older guitar (used one) It's hard to determine what it's been thru unless I can see it in person! ...and thank you, Brazilian Rosewood is my favorite of all woods!
i wouldn't recommend buying such instruments online, there are a lot of repaired ones and unoriginals
