- As part of the Freedom Day celebration yesterday, here's PJ Powers taking us back to 1995 when she and Ladysmith Black Mambazo made this special song a big hit worldwide. It also featured in the movie hit Invictus.

I will never forget that night in1995. So soon after the birth of the new South Africa. We went to the Cape Town Waterfront after the game. It was a miracle of joyful. united humanity! Still makes me cry. The world needs many moments like this today. To remind our hearts we are deeply connected . God help us

I used to be a Grade R Teacher in SA and during our concert, this was our main song and theme: unity. I had 22 children from different races and cultural backgrounds and it was just the most beautiful scene seeing it all come together. Still brings happy tears to my eyes when I reminisce on it!! My children of 2016 really did a phenomenal job and were very curious about the topic ❤

Seeing the reactions of Fan's after both the England vs Springboks and last week with "The Boks" against "Les Bleus" in France, when in each case, the ever resilient Men in the cherished "Green and Gold", squeezed the narrowest of wins, I am reminded just how appropriate this Anthem really is..!!

I haven't heard anyone in the world sing this song better than PJ Powers. No one. And the background vocals of Black Mambazo make this song so unique. Powerful duet.

Gustav Holst should be credited for the original melody. It is part of "Jupiter" which forms part of "The Planets" which he wrote. But, yes, this performance by PJ Powers and Ladysmith Black Mambazo was absolutely EPIC!
Of course! 😊👍🏻 Credit where it’s due for Gustav Holst. Some other examples come to mind where an original piece is wholly transformed. Like what Pet Shop Boys did with Elvis Presley’s “Always on my mind” and how UB 40 reworked Neil Diamond’s “Red red wine”.
Though I was too young too remember the rugby world Cup in 1995, as I was only 3. when I listen to this, it never fails to give me goosebumps.

I never knew this song but when my singing teacher told us that we should memorise the song what a prize-giving I started to look up at and that all ended up your very nice song and I just can't get enough of it my brothers and my family I just totally annoyed of me saying but I don't care
