É de fundamental importância a prática e lema do karatê, espero que vários professores de karatê vejam esse vídeo e se espelhem nele.

I've seen the videos, and I've seen the comments, and many bring good points while others make me laugh. Kihon is and always has been the most important part of the class. It's not surprising that Sensei Kano devoted the majority of the class to basics. As Perro said, without good basics, you do not have good kata or kumite.
Sensei Kano did an excellent job with them. It's not every day you get to practice with a master in the arts. All in all it was a very good class to watch.

Oss. You are absolutely right. So many people want to do it fast and sloppy, and the result is that they don't get better, and they can't use shotokan in kumite. These basics are the most important part of karate, and based on what I've seen on the computer, basics are primarily what the Japanese focus on. I've always believed that if you can master moving in "correct" low stances, than, moving in half steps, higher stances, and angles, in full contact kumite is very easy.

@Konputer No, you need to aim the distance to go clearly through because no pain no gain. Missing by an inche is for wimps, you need to learn to block or be hurt.

always finish bow after the teacher, never before!

Interesting. I guess I can see your point, but I wasn't so much referring to kata. My point is that if you cross the floor in low stances, as a training exercise, it makes fighting footwork much easier, and helps you lock down better on delivery in a high stance. I've always used the low lunging attacks to hunt down a retreating opponent, or to chase someone who I just moved back with mae geri. What do you mean throws and groundwork? I always like to hear different ideas.

the black dude at around 2:10 is pretty good, real fast with those blocks.

in our karate we puch with full force in khion and kicks in fact and if the opponent doesnt block correctly he gets hit

Looks like they need to work on their distancing here - most punches end up several inches from their intended target. When we go kihon kumite like this against chudan we almost aim to hit - a controlled hit of course :)

@ScarredFatality - Yes it's strange to hear so many people recite dojo kun in Japanese (I assume they actually know what they are saying) and then demonstrate no idea about something as basic as Rei-go. To each his own but personally I'm not a fan of everything in Japanese & the dojo kun to me is better in English. That way everyone understands and hopefully adopts it.

Many of these people appear to be at kyu level and about a third of them at white belt level. Why are they wearing black belts?

Poor tecnique. Gohon Kumite..must keep conter atack hand after hit. Many people there dont have hikite. Other people on video dont observe the final fase of the drill.

tokaidosan Many people didn't have hikite probably because they were exhausted. All these people looked very good.

Try to understand the real karate, not the acrobatic or artistic karate that is usual to practice in the USA. Karate need spirit, and to get a high level is very difficult. This Sensei looks the student level and is impossible teach something more than basic, Without basic you never get a good kata, good kumite o kihon. NEVER! Sorry for my english. OS!
