What seems to be a pretty widely missed thing about the "new Luden's" (Caster's Companion) is that the passive is now _WAY_ better for control mages or sources of continuous spell damage. Old Luden's charged all at once, before being able to be used, but Newden's charges the first in only three seconds. And the important bit: The first charge doesn't suffer from the 0.35 multiplier penalty, meaning that landing the first charge multiple times is much more effective than landing the same one multiple times (6x for 6 procs vs 2.75x for one fully stacked proc).
The burst effect is still really valuable, though.
TBH this seems to be the only good thing for DPS/"control" mages that's not basically around ten mages that are completely all burst no dps/poor poke.

@@dynhoyw To be fair there's some challenger one tricks that don't know aspects of their champs. Petu had no idea how Shen's Spirit Blade tether looks to an opponent if he's in a bush but the Spirit Blade is in his base because he literally only ever plays Shen and never fights it, he randomly found out in a Shen 1v1 vs another content creator.

anyways, idk if they're gonna nerf this item ... but if they do nerf it? maybe my opinion will change on it; but right now zoe(is)s one of the champions that can easily deal 35% of somebody's max hp very quickly.

I'm pretty sure any instance of non-persistent (non-dot) damage pops the sleep's double damage.
Stormsurge should qualify, which means it had its damage doubled, plus the horizon bonus.
It's doesn't really double. There's a max that it can hit for. But yeah, that's definitely what's happening.
Not sure if you mention it later but storm surge can crit with shadow flame, the synergy is pretty good

Limcube playing league is something that seems like a very enjoyable thing to watch (very sad that I couldn't see you play league a long time ago, heard you had streamed it when you were starting out) and pekin did 937 damage with stormsurge no crit, curious to see if shadowflame would have killed due to the extra little bit of flat pen instead of the added 10% from focus
Good point but shadowflame would imo still not be great on Zoe, as Pekin said, your increments of damage are too high for the bonus effect to be useful.
Shadowflame is good on control mages for the most part less good on burst mages imo

There is no way they don't nerf storm surge on release. Its just so much added burst for poke mages who could chunk before and now they can kill. 35% really isn't that much of a threshold

I think its fine in concept they just need to pick. Its either too much damage early or too much damage too easily. Just buying the item has it do minimum 150, that's the same as an ignite (on a 20s CD) and too much for just hitting someone. If they want to keep the damage maybe make it a bit fiddly to apply like Talon's passive or something.

Hsteel Riftmaker Kench could have some promise. Then there's the new(or old) Liandry's for anti-tank AP. Sadly there's no mythic passive for size/q range anymore, though.

PBE servers are in LA, so people specifically in the western US get pretty low ping. My normal sits around 50, and PBE is 20 maximum
I get that Pekin is insanely good at Zoe but there's no way this isn't mortifyingly broken, no? Like there's no reason a champ should be able to one-shot me from level 2 and and all stages of the game going forward.
I mean until the e oneshot part this looked pretty similar to a normal very fed zoe game on live servers, shes always been one of the best laning and snowballing champions held back by lacking any real escape or disengage tool to save her. I wouldn't be surprised with some small/medium nerfs after her winrate goes up a bit with the preseason stuff but it's nothing insanely different (like people being oneshot from full with karthus ult in preseason, that's a big change from live)

I think your bubble one shot Ashe cause the stormsurge woke them up from bubble and procced the bubble damage, which seems like a really great combo for Zoe.

Zoe can become an E oneshotter with stormsurge-casters synergy because her E procs off stormsurge. Shadowflame is OP too against semi-tanks and bruisers if you want to finish them off from 70% health (it has especially high synergy as it increases the damage of storm surge and and the true damage proc, but also has anti synergy in that few scenarios have E do 35% health AND the the Shadowflame execute is what finishes them off)
Riot PBE servers used to only bc in Chicago, but now they seem to be split between California (somewhere in cali) and Chicago. Sometimes my ping is around 50's-60's (chic) any other times around 90-110 (cali) I'm located on East Coast. Normally get around 53 for live servers in chicago which is where the NA servers are located currently.

I get lower ping on PBE than on NA, I play from Alaska. Friends in Washington state experience the same thing, so it's gotta be somewhere on the west coast.

i was the pyke and my ping was actually 24ms so maybe its on west coast? however i still get insane lag spikes at random times that i never get on NA, which is how i died to that bel'veth in bush 25:57 . PBE is weird
It must be west coast. I'm the same. My ping to PBE is like 30 while my ping to normal servers is like 80.
West coast is one of the worst places they could put it. Europe is fucked, china and korea are fucked and those are the regions with the biggest League culture. Even NA east isn't happy...
i have like 30 ping in pbe and im over on the west coast, in southern oregon to be exact

Illaoi has been murdered by these changes.
Even if she gets good items, her tentacle placement will be absolutely destroyed due to the wide lanes. They killed top and mid illaoi in 1 fuckin patch. Items nerfed into oblivion, tower gold nerfed, lanes widened so she cant properly clear waves anymore. Guess even she could out strength Riot's heavy hand of death.
I remember when Nagakaboros was the strongest being before being retconned out. I still believe she is the strongest. I will pray to her to have her strength restored.
I thought they only made mid wider? Illaoi is mostly played top, not mid.

IMO she has better match ups mid. She has decent sustain and great wave clear. The lane had better tentacle placements and the lane being shorter meant you could use your tankiness to woddle back to tower if you really needed to.
Now all the lanes are wide. Even the jungle is wide. Its all so wide to the point Illaoi will struggle getting double tentacle hits. Everything is so far apart now.

So if you actually want to know about ping basically Riot has got a bunch of deals with Internet Service Providers and has essentially built their own 'highway lanes' for their players to use. The PBE doesn't use these lanes (or at least isn't given priority) so we're on much less impressive internet infrastructure when on the PBE.
Being on the west coast I actually have lower ping to the PBE than to normal servers

I'm sure that the PBE servers are in Cali, since I have 70 ping on live, and 50 on pbe. I'm one of the few that has it lower. I remember that the original live servers for NA were more west coast, probably Cali as well, in like season 4 and prior, then they moved it more in land so East coast players weren't screwed. I think some East coast players had it better on EUW back then.
5:01 my friend in washington state has really really really low ping on pbe, far lower than his ping on live servers. maybe its somewhere near there.

New shadowflame works with Zoe passive autos, and that damage might just tip it over the edge for when you’re snowballing. Looks like it could be a 2nd item after a mana item on her if you’re ahead. Reminds me of how strong she was in s9 after ludens + oblivion orb, but MMR is fucky on PBE so can’t really tell if it’s ideal.
The issue with Shadowflame is that its passive only exists when the enemy is at 35%. With E -> Q -> A, the only thing that realistically crits is the last auto's magic damage.
Shadowflame is better on burn/dot champs who can gradually bring you to 35% and then crit their damage for that 35% window.
That said, if you're ahead enough to bring the enemy to 35% with one E or Q, then Stormsurge can crit for some pretty good damage.
I think comet is the way to go with all those new item I feel like you don't even to proc electrocute to kill and you will get more out the comet proc with the stormsurge proc and the caster companion
I think the thing that has me most perplexed about this video is just how much extra movespeed there is now. Pekin had 499 at the end there. Do a lot of items just come with it built in now? Are they out of combat passives? I know he has darkseal, but even then, Zoe edging 500 movespeed is like....

I'm pretty sure bobqin gets good ping on PBE i swear its somewhere on the west coast or maybe even further up in canada, I get around the same ping as you on the east coast
Ping is not just about distance, most stuff is connected by optical fiber which uses light to transmit signal, so the response time there is about 1 millisecond anywhere in the world because light travels around 300 million meters per second. The reason ping is higher on PBE is probably because Riot has less hardware allocated to processing requests on the PBE servers, because, well, they are for testing, not completely smooth gameplay like the live servers.
Funny how you consider 70 ping on pbe bad. Whenever I tried it, I had like 120-170 at best

they definitely make change purely for the sake of change. i.e. "here are mythics" "now we're removing mythics"

How are you playing on the PBE without every single player using the hexplate exploit? That is all anyone does in every single quickplay or ARAM game. 20 second karthus and 15 second rumble ults on repeat the whole game... its been like that for a few days now. Can't believe Riot can't hotfix it or just disable the item.

Whenever i see pbe footage i am almost sure there will be massive nerfs over time and 6-7 patches after release dammages will be back (or close) to where it is now. After all riot wanted to reduce burst and os abilities not so long ago now they want us to os them all over again and suposedly they aim to reduce snowball and increase game length a bit. I mean sometimes riot's gameplan for league does not make any sense at all. At least this season they bothered making many changes which i like more than just almost no changes like this current season.

i literally cant get quality pbe games anymore. ive played for quite a bit today and ive probably had 3 games where the ult exploit wasnt being used. i hope you don't run into this issue.. i dont know why riot hasnt temporarily removed the item yet.
I love that we dont have mythics anymore, but i REALLY DISLIKE how they have gutted or removed some of the best items from the mythic system. Like, why remove Everfrost completely or Shattered Queen? Some of the only other utility defensive options for mages besides the everlong OP zhonya's? Why remove the proc from ravenous on abilities? why remove vamp from Riftmaker? why remove the HP AD scaling from titanic. It just feels SO BAD that they delete some of the most fun parts of many items....
