Thank you so much. I don’t have the Handi-Quilter long arm but I do have the Tiara III sit down long arm machine, I am just learning how to use it and found these videos so helpful when there is a problem. I was stitching just fine the other day, the tension was perfect when all of a sudden it started stitching very tightly, pulling and bunching the fabric as I stitched. Then I noticed the thread had come off the antenna that sits at the top of the machine where I first place the thread from the spool to thread it . Fixed it problem didn’t correct itself. After a very long time spent threading and rethreading, tension adjustments, checking the bobbin for lint, etc, I gave up. Today I pulled up this video I have watched before--I placed the bobbin in the case wrong! I even had gone as far as getting a new bobbin case, which arrived today, so I laughed at myself when this video talks about getting a new bobbin case! I didn’t need one, but, yes, now I have an extra one which is just fine with me! And I didn’t know what that piece in the bobbin case was called until today! I thought I bent it from when the fabric was pulling so much, as it was raised up some in the case. It seems to be ok though, so i guess I don’t need to worry about it. Thank you for sharing all this good information for the Handi-Quilter as it is helping learn about my machine as well!
Thank you! I have the Tiara III sit down long arm and use that same bobbin winder. Was having trouble with it winding more on one side than the other, this video helps me immensely! Also I have trouble with putting the oil in, I can’t see what I’m doing because it is located under the table that came with the machine so more than a drop of oil goes in. You answered my question when you said it was ok to wipe out the excess. That’s what I have to do. How often should I oil the racer in the bobbin area? Thank you for sharing all those tips.
I would like to reiterate the bobbin spring can use some more discussion. It took me almost three years to find someone else complaining about the issue I was experiencing with tension. It was in a discussion board on a different manufacturer’s website. Please; though it may be less common, could you make a video discussing the spring housed inside the bobbin case that HQ encourages us to leave in even with prewound bobbins? * Where should the top of the bobbin be in relation to the bobbin case? *What happens if the spring is adjusted to high/low and your bobbin doesn’t sit where it should within the bobbin case? * Can the spring be adjusted and if so how? This was an issue I had with two brand new bobbin cases, one that came with my brand new Amara and the second I purchased directly through HQ website in an attempt to cure the issue. Please know that I am not stating this to be a negative but to help others that might experience a tension issue that isn’t commonly discussed, and if it’s a singular topic it will help others to find the solution much faster than sorting through information that they already tried and failed with. I almost returned my Amara and returned to quilting on my domestic machine. But I have corrected a very simple and easily overlooked issue and she quilts like a champ!
I recently purchased the king quilter 2. I have been quilting about a month now. I am having so many tension issues. Every time I change the bobbin I have tension issues. And like you, I have tried every suggestion.
@@FarmHouseQuiltery yes. My tension issues were due to the spring in the bobbin case being adjusted too high so my bobbin sat too high in the case. Halfway through each bobbin the tension would change. Even the expert quilter from the dealer wasn’t able to figure it out. I actually used the Towa gauge to confirm the my tension was changing. I pulled entire bobbins through it and started with a perfect tension and by the end of the bobbin, the tension was so tight it wouldn’t even register on the gauge. I made then adjustment to the spring height and I have consistent stitching.
@@emnnate1996 I can relate entirely to how frustrating it is. When your issues are less common it is more difficult to find the solution. And sometimes every path that has promise leads to disappointment. I can’t believe it took me almost three years to pin down. I saw on a messaging board I think it was APQS, someone was talking about removing the spring and replacing it with the magic gennie washer to solve their tension issues. So that put me onto the scent it could be my spring. I searched for information regarding bobbin springs specifically and that’s when I learned the spring needed adjusted from a singular video on RUclips. You become a really good detective tracking down the perp that is tormenting your tension! I hope you find the solution soon.
What tube video did you watch. I would like to see it also. Does the spring have a right and wrong side? Do you know how to cure the “zigzag” look to your stitches? My last quilt had perfect stitches. My current one not so much!
@@HandiQuilter Hi Sorry my wasn’t clear. My wound bobbins are fatter in the middle than in the sides. Is it important that the bobbins are evenly wound, ie same fullness on sides and middle? If it is important how do I adjust the bobbin winder machine to wind the bobbins evenly? Thank you 😊
Thank you or this very informative video. My bobbin winder is an older model, but it works . Still a lot of helpful hints. (The camera operator is improving...)
Mine is also different than the one in this video and I have the Moxie too. Also when I wind mine it looks like a tire.... fatter in the middle, how do I adjust that.
I love that answer. Last night I had one badly wound bobbin so I unwound it by hand onto the thread cone. I never thought about it your solution! Again, thanks
I hate winding bobbins. Seems like it takes forever to get a good one. I too have to hold thread away or it runs into itself and then pops out of tension or pigtail.
What does the backlash spring look like? I just bought a machine, had the bobbin screw fall out of the bobbin case, found after a frantic 15 mins and replaced it but my machine isn't working now. Im wondering if that fell out too?
Question. Are handiquilter bobbin cases the same as Janome long arm bobbin cases ?I can’t find a bobbin case for my Janome pro quilter 18, and I feel like I need a new one.
@@HandiQuilter there doesn’t seem to be a way to order things from the Janome company. I’ve been on their website and there is no way to order anything.
I think i need to order a whole new threadmast with pigtail. My pigtail broke the first year and the relacement sits half way up the mast and is not adjustable. I have to hold the thread while winding or it will jump out of the disks. I have three spongy (useless) bobbins for every good one. I hate winding bobbins!
Instead of going from the pigtail over then under the tensioner (basically running the thread clockwise around the tension disc), I now go from the pigtail down under then over the tensioner (counter clockwise) to the bobbin. The thread never pops out that way. And I’ve just loosened the tension a bit to make up for the extra pull on the thread as it winds. Just what words for me.
Yes you could mention the type of bobbin's the size referring to the size of the bobbin them also whether to use metal or plastic bobbins you didn't mention anything about that and I was hoping you would. And if you buy some random size bobbin's how you tell it's a will properly fit in your machine what major ments tell you which fits which for any machine whether it's to mastic or a for one of the things that you are you saying Xete
Hi Kristine. All Handi Quilter longarm machines use "M" class bobbins. We recommend that you don't try to use anything other than Handi Quilter bobbins or pre-wound M-class bobbins. If you have bobbins that are a different size, you should wind them onto an M-class bobbin.
Please, please when Johnny is trying to tell us something please keep the camera on him half of his demonstration all we could see was his head in the circle. That does not help at all.

Handi Quilter recommends oiling with each bobbin change or if the machine has been sitting for a couple days.

Great video. I have a Moxie bobbin winder which does not have the tension adjustment knob. My bobbins are not wound evenly, how do adjust? Thank you
On the Moxie bobbin winder, it is on top. The discs that you place the thread between is your tensioner. You adjust it there.

The bobbin winder I received with my moxie isn't like this. No speed control and the bobbin is on top not the side. Less adjustable it seems.

Is it possible to rewind a loose bobbin so that you don't have to waste thread?
Definitely! Just put it in a cup or something behind the bobbin winder and then thread it up through the thread mast as you would a cone of thread!!

Crushed bobbins. How do I tell if I have blown bobbins? My hubby can 'micrometer' measure them for me. How do I tell?
Put two bobbins side by side. If you have a blown bobbin, it will be taller than the regular bobbin.
Great video today
Glad you enjoyed it
Is the bobbin winder included with the Amara sewing machine?
Yes. Came with mine.
