The thing that skeevs me out the most about this is him co-opting ""woke"" language to manipulate people into getting his way. You're not setting up boundaries Travis, you're being a preachy killjoy because people aren't playing the way you want them to.
YES that really got under my skin. It makes me so mad when people do stuff like this because ACTUALLY setting boundaries is important and can already be really hard to do, even more so when you're worried about seeming "cringe" because your mental association of setting boundaries (or any other "woke" type of thing) is stuff like this. It seems like he was just really frustrated which is understandable but I wish he would've taken a couple minutes to calm down before reacting this way

Travis has NPD or Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Which can make people act manipulative without realizing it. How Travis is acting here definitely seems like someone with NPD. It isn't an excuse and I think Travis is in the wrong, but I think it adds some context that people are missing.

"Playing to annoy and frustrate others" is literally Travis' whole shtick e.g. play along at home, sad libs etc. It's just because he happened to be on the receiving end of it. Watching this was somehow less embarrassing than if he'd thrown an actual temper tantrum.
I don’t know, Travis’ bits never struck me as being intentionally annoying, they always struck me as him really wanting to have a bit that people liked and being incapable of making one. He seems genuinely upset sometimes when his bits get shit on by the other brothers.
Not defending him, this is just the impression I get from listening to them. His narcissism definitely shows when he forces an unfunny bit into their content, no matter if it’s intentionally annoying or not.

@@sagggoo123 well I'm neurodivergent too, in almost exactly the same way Travis is (ADD) and to me this looked exactly like someone suppressing an emotional meltdown. They are real and they happen, and this is what it looks like when someone tries to control it. That said, all of this is just speculation because we can't read his mind.

People claiming this behavior is acceptable because he has "ADHD" or is neurodivergent are quite frankly not thinking straight.

Yeah having ADHD/RSD or otherwise being neurodivergent can absolutely explain why he felt uncomfortable in that situation, but it doesn't mean his response was okay.
I think being mentally ill is not an excuse, but I've had some weird reactions to medications in my life and that is what he said was the cause of this reaction. I don't really know if I would've said this, but I have certainly said some weird things while adjusting to doses of SSRIs.

Like i GET travis wanting to establish boundaries with certain playstyles but not only is the whole point of the game is to lie and just say shit which makes frustration inevitable anyways, but the way he tried to connect friends trolling eachother with real world issues and how its "something that bad people do" has GOT to be the most cringeworthy shit. Travis could've very easily see how those guys play in other streams and decide ahead of time not to play with them to avoid all of that in the first place
edit: After writing this i found out Travis is neurodivergent and is getting therapy in which case good for him. I'm glad he's working on those issues and it definitely is a more reasonable explanation for his actions (nor do i think he's a bad person because of this) but I do still think this was by no means the right way to handle it as an adult, neurodivergent or not. My last point about him checking out their playstyles ahead of time still stands.

A lot of the people in the game weren't really close friends with chilled, except for ze and cheesy, and they didnt want to start up any drama so it's understandable

skadj was just trying to diffuse the tension and placate travis, he wasn’t sucking up. i know the feeling, where instead of denying someone’s feelings you sort of say “okay, yeah,” and make them feel heard, regardless of whether you agree. think of it as working customer service with a rowdy customer. you sort of usher them along and make them feel like they’ve been heard out and that the audience agrees so they can stop ranting. (except travis didn’t.)

They would have absolutely been in the right to tell him that its unfortunate that this style of play isn't fun for you but it is our style of play and if its not a good environment for you thats totally okay but its not on the rest of us to abide by your sensitivities. Sorry man. Can't just come in and say months/years worth of building up a dynamic and fun is somehow illegitimate and unworthy and just expect to be placated. What is the "right" way to play a game where people a group of friends is basically just goofing off and having fun? I'm curious if there is an honest answer to that question. A game is meant to be fun. If chaos is part of that fun, who are you to trample upon it?

I'd say when it comes to a game about lying that's been so overplayed, the only way to correctly play it IS to goof off and have fun! I'm unsure why Travis got so mad when iirc his role in this round cant even kill so the comment that he did it was supposed to be a joke since it was obvious who it is.. all this coming from someone who made everyone else mute him because of an obnoxious voice, yelled at them to let the scene play out so loud the mic fuzzed, and admitted to lying to his wife about finances and said it was normal to do so... I don't get it

Oh god I used to only listen to the podcast mbmbam and sawbones and never exposes myself to anything else about the mcelroys and the I watched on Sarah Z video that made me search for this clip and now my week is ruined. This is is extremely hard to listen to.

Yah Travis should of done this privately, as well as learn what the groups lvl of game play is, and if he doesn’t like it he doesn’t have to play with them. That’s the beauty of being able to make choices. See the thing is, yes Travis is setting his boundaries, however Chilled can set them right back. What their views on “Having Fun” are two very different things, as well as to their viewers. So if you have one group that plays rock music and another that plays rap, some viewers may come and won’t care for it, or vice versa. So what we learn is their audience, Chilled and Travis’ are very much opposites and cannot meet in the middle, so the boundaries of either both clash. When you have two forces that push eventually they move towards opposite directions. Now doesn’t mean they have to hate each other, or their audiences, just means they don’t have to play together. It’s very very simple.

Chilled's twitch chat during this whole thing was rather funny. Nearly uniform condemnation of Travis for this ship with a few twitch mods every now and then asking everyone to "be respectful."
Quite frankly, I think Travis's demand for everyone to play how he wants them to play is what was disrespectful. A man child acting as a petty tyrant playing the victim.
To make it worse, he was playing a mod that added on a "jester" role where the entire point of said role is to trick or troll everyone to vote him out. Chilled, knowing this role exists, specifically plays this mod a bit more chaotically so that when he does become jester its a bit harder for others to predict that he is one. In other words, Travis is demanding that others avoid this valid strategy solely because he doesn't like it and for no other reason.

He’s definitely the least progressive, funny and self-aware of the three McElroy brothers and it shows the moment he doesn’t have his brothers to fall back on.
