SIMON BOCCANEGRA is an uneven work, but it does contain several magnificent scenes. This one, like the Councin Scene, is one. Both men are really superb here, two great singing actors at the peak of their art. Does the whole performance exist on DVD? This 1978 Scala production must have been tremendous. Look at this musical, dramatic and visual splendor, THEN go and look at the theatrical garbage we are being served these days.
