thanks. i need to sharpen my trotline hooks or at least the ones that are getting dull. my friend said to just buy hooks and replace them but replacing 1k hooks cost almost 200 dollars and if i get 1k hooks im gonna make 10 more lines instead lol. but ya at least till im making a ton of money commercial fishing i need to sharpen them for now. and ya for the ones you talk about chipping if they are dull nothing wrong with trying it dont count out the sharpener. if its already messed up you might be able to fix it so worth a try at least. you can make it better then a dull hook and thats all that really matters.

my problem is that the flies i tie for fishing are so well made that i can catch a dozen fish on the same fly. i just bought a sharpener and am curious to see if i can get them back to sharp. also wondering how small of a hook i can actually sharpen. i go down to 24 sometimes. I doubt i can go that small but only one way to find out.

Hooks don’t have to be sharpened for a few years right ?

I wouldn't put a time frame on it. It could be a few minutes or a few years... I would just keep an eye on the hook point and test it especially if fish are spitting you often
