But remember, it's not a competition. Stay humble. There will always be someone making more and someone making less. Take care of your business, create value and remain giving, but smart.
It also appears that the delta between household incomes is smallest in Hawaii. The delta which also represents the difference in lifestyles and affordability is just as (if not more important) than the actual incomes. But largest deltas are in places like DC, Mass and NJ. Interesting indeed.
These incomes are right and not as low as yall think. We have to take into account everyone don't stay in the big city. Yall thinking big city incomes and cost. Everyone don't live in Houston, Nashville, DC etc. My sister is 45 and still live in the small mississippi town we grew up in. She makes 45k per year at a factory job. My sister brought a home last year. 140k 3 bedroom on 1 acre lot built in 2001 and homes like that a dime a dozen in my hometown.
This is interesting information. Cost of living makes a huge difference. A better measurement is the lowest difference between the white median income and the black median income if you're seeking equality. I live in Chicago, and everyone I know makes more than the median. I'm also happy to know I make more than the median (black or white) in any state. 💪🏾
They should include the source for their estimates in future videos and also a follow up video factoring cost of living adjusted income as well. Shoutout from the 662.
400 year head start, discrimination practice, being left outta Gi Bill, not allow to get FHA loan, Jim Crow, etc. Hell, honestly just shows how great we are cause they should be a 200k gap not just 20k to 30k. They literally had nothing to hold them back. Basically, it's a free highway to go 120mph without a ticket and we had to take a dirt road on foot without shoes.
@@BlackExcellist might be better to say within a lifetime of the Civil Rights Act rather than 1 generation. i had to remind myself how old the Civil Rights Act is
So, what is your source for this information...Forbes, Business Week, NY Times? Blacks having a median income of $80k in Hawaii leaves me to believe that they are working as a civil servant or are a high-ranking NCO or officer in the military. Also, I lived in Hawaii for six years (1995-2001) as a federal employee and I can tell you that there were not many Black people living in the state unless they were in the military or federal government, and the cost of living was expensive especially when you had to shop for groceries ($5 to $6 dollars for a gallon of milk). Now to be fair, I lived there from the mid 90s to early 2000 so things may have changed, but I highly doubt it. Hawaii is a tourist state and that's where their economy thrives, so unless Black people are working in the tourism industry (which you will find a majority of local Hawaiians working) then $80k for Black people is somewhat questionable. And that's why I'm asking to share your source (I'm not trying to be difficult, but in this time that we are living you have to trust but verify), I'm a retired civil servant with 30 years of service here in Las Vegas. I retired making a low six figure salary and now that I'm retired I'm making high five figures (no retirement job). Compared to some of these median incomes I'm living like a king. 🤷♂
Is this 1 year or 5 year US Census information? I ask, as that makes a difference. Also, cost of living has to be considered on the state and local level.

Outstanding! Thanks for sharing.
Very informative. Happy to see that I’m beating the median at both the Black and White salary for my state. ✊🏽
I’m grateful & humbled i’m above the median income for my state & most other states! I may not retire in May after all!

I thought that Maryland (my state) would have been #1, but I am not too shocked that the top spot went to Hawaii.
@@Made-In-DC I did too!
That extra 1k ain’t going to get you far in Hawaii. So realistically MD is #1
What about Maryland made you think it would be #1? No shade just curious
Silence is bliss. I haven’t heard too many people discuss this type of info. Wow.. w

Its crazy to think I'm from Mississippi but I been a resident of hawaii for 14 years. What a huge contrast

@@djelliott3158 that's why cost of living is so important. You can't get a house where I live under 450k.
@@AfriqueNY Yet, in Upstate NY, you can get a decent home for $200-250k, give or take, depending on where you live.
@ckh937610 yeah. That's true. But the jobs are not paying downstate rates.
Wow, I'm really surprised Hawaii ranked #1. I wasn't expecting that.
Hawaii is really expensive, so the pay is probably just so people can afford to survive there. I think the real winner here is Maryland.
@@khaliawilliams8409 it’s the most expensive state, so it matches up.
@@seismicvertigo345Maryland is quite expensive as well, but having the nation’s capital right there for employment helps.
Look at the income gaps. Not only was Hawaii number 1 in income but the gap was $13k. Most of the top 20 had a gap of $20k or more.
Yes, they were able to Pass Go 400x before they let us roll the dice. But it’s Go Time. And we will close the gap
Is this median income for an individual, couple, or family with children?
Delaware may be a sleeper.
@@ckh937610 I live in Delaware. Trust me, it’s worth it. A lot of Bank jobs here, so that helps with median income numbers.
