The "killing off parents in a car crash" trope is possibly the least effective trope to induce sympathy.
I'm surprised she didn't end up with super powers and that this wasn't a Disney movie, because it seems like the singular way to begin both.
The opening was a little weak, dad cannot drive and the parents do not seem to know where they are going. Two scenes made up for that, Megan taking off its glasses upon entering the house and later doing the dance routine before grabbing a paper cutter.
Modern vehicles are designed with so many crumple zones that even in a direct impact, it is rare to perish in an accident.

Unfortunately, I don't think Gemma's going to prison. Feels like they're going the Jurassic World route of the main lady not receiving any punishment despite doing horrible things.
If M3gan does her homework, a little computer hacking and Gemma's pretty much done for! This could be a plot point; how Gemma's career was ruined due to an 'accidental leak' of incriminating evidence, incarcerating her and sending Cady to her Florida guardians that M3gan targets, and how Gemma tries to break out and stop her permanently.

My screening definitely didn’t do that, I saw at least six 7-year-olds in that audience many of whom were crying afterwards.

You might think that parents would inform themselves about the movies their children wanting to see 🙄 The trailer would've shown enough to know that this isn't a movie for kids.
The "worst" that ever happened when my parents went with us to the cinema was that we had the trailer from Alien vs Predator running in front of a movie that was rated for kids at the age of 6.
There was a five year old in my screening. She was asleep when I left the theater and didn’t seem to be bothered by the scares, but still, WHY?
Then again, apparently some guy next to my sibling smoked weed, so maybe 7PM opening night screenings at my local theater are filled with weird people and/or lax screening.
This is off topic but I remember trying to test my neighbourhood kids by showing them the animated movie Nine (the living rag dolls in an apocalyptic sci-fi world without humans) on DVD player/TV at home. They didn't even last halfway through the movie, when the k*ller robot appeared. It's definitely horror for them.
It is funny how often a movie will have someone casually create what is essentially an artificial lifeform, and no one in the story ever acknowledges that they are witnessing one of the most significant accomplishments in all of human history.
I know, Huh? but if it got the attention it deserved, it would be a completely different movie. I always hate it when you have to tell yourself " If they didnt do that stupid thing, nobody in there right mind would do, the movie couldn't happen" when watching movies. I just watched the original "Conan the barbarian" and "Conan the destroyer "the other day and they were awesome, still! next i'm going to watch "Red Sonja" to complete the set.
I also marvel at, "We know it can become smarter than us. Let's go ahead and make it stronger than us too..."
Thinking about it now, it is a little weird the focus was only on it being an awesome toy, not freaking AI intelligence. But I think they already had that with it being the future?

There’s no footage that Gemma did anything wrong or caused harm to others. If anything could be proven it wouldn’t affect just her, the entire toy company would be impacted, similarly to PlayPals in Child’s Play.
Yes, because she never broke any laws. Somewhat similar to how none of the inventors of the automobile/firearm/nuclear bomb/countless other things went to prison for all the deaths their creations caused.
@@jaimel88 she was the lead designer and was the one that gave it all its commands that M3gan used to justify its killing. She rushed it out despite knowing full well that it wasn't ready. At a bare minimum she's losing her job and custody of her niece.
@@MidgarMerc losing her job, yes, but you'd think she'd just voluntarily leave for a better one because what she did was absolutely groundbreaking. Losing custody, maybe, but not likely. Everything she did in direct and legal fulfilment her job is the responsibility of the company, and not her personally. It was also technically the company's property that did all that damage independent of her influence.

OK, I know we're supposed to suspend our disbelief for horror movies and all, but are you seriously saying that Genna built a highly intelligent robot out of TITANIUM and gave it learning capabilities to the point of SENTIENCE and never thought once that it would go crazy and try to kill? Who builds a TOY out of one of the strongest metals we have anyway?!?! I'm telling you, Genna was planning something...

If you watch the movie closely during the scene where neighbours dog bite Megan neck while pulling her under fence, there is electric sparks happen in matter of seconds that moment. So that's caused Megan programme to glitch and let her to bypass the limits.

The best part was this thing was supposed to be kept top secret so no one would know about it before they announced it. Yet she’s taking that thing everywhere she goes and tells everyone it’s a robot.

Honestly, M3gan is such a refreshing horror film. It's so great to see a creepy doll movie where the doll actually ISN'T possessed and is just an AI robot. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with possessed doll's in horror films, but I like that this movie created a fresh take on the creepy doll genre and worked in a great cautionary message to parents. Oh, and this is also one of those rare horror films where every single actor is good! Even the side characters were all so convincing!

But it utterly failed succumbing to every rogue AI trope I can think.

Obviously, you were never subjected to the overly lengthy, boring movie: A.I. Artificial Intelligence put out by Ambling. Not a horror movie on purpose but became one due to how no matter what it showed, it couldn’t wring out any sympathy for the A.I.

The way her parents died was laugable. They hadn't previously known about tire chains, and the father "thought the car was AWD or a 4 x 4" (I forgot which).
So far, M3GAN has been one of the better movies of the year in my opinion.

Watched this movie last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Likely due to the fact that I'm not on TikTok or watch much TV anymore, but I wasn't aware of the viral M3GAN dance.
By itself, I could take it or leave it. Now, the song they used during the scene, "Walk the Night" by the Skatt Brothers, that made the scene for me. That tune slaps!

This movie rocks. Glad to see classic genres like Top Gun and comedy horror going hard again.
Anything but more MCU or DCEU or other Us they try to scrap together. They were going to try to scrape together The Mummy, The Invisible Man and the like for a Dark cinematic Universe.

I just watched this and I laughed at it a lot and then after saw it was PG13. This is what I think of it. This is the type of movie you use on a kid who begs to see scary movies and you tell them they are not old enough. You test them with this movie. It never goes too far on anything gore like or too much for a child really. That is who this movie is made for... and I guess also for parent to laugh at too.

An unusually great movie that I didn't expect to like too much. It's like a female SMALL SOLDIERS, a personal favourite of mine.
