  • The best mATX cases out there for the gaming PC market tend to hit budget price points and look pretty generic. But what happens when a manufacturer just goes wild and designs something unique? Well that's where the Thermaltake Tower 300 comes from.

    I wasn’t too interested in the tower 200 because it looked like a stretched out tower 100. This on the other hand has a very unique design to it. I’m interested to see if it would even fit on my desk horizontally. It looks like something from Outer space And I’m all for it.

    Blocking off all the IO ports and them being INSIDE the case seems like one heck of a design flaw.
    And if you have a lot of USB devices/displays, then all those cables will start to mess with airflow around the top fan too....

    • @wyzemann
      @wyzemann 5 месяцев назад +6

      YOU WIN! I dislike this clunky feature as well. I'm often connecting/disconnecting something or other in the rear of my PC. Daily use of this case would make my inner Hulk emerge…quite often👹🤯.

    • @SidVirtuous
      @SidVirtuous 5 месяцев назад +6

      I have the tower 200. These things come with tons of options to route your cables around the fans to the point where youd actually have to go out of your way to block off the fans. Also, with the way the case is orientated, blocking off the I/O ports make it look much cleaner on top, even though I wouldn't mind having all the cables flowing out from the top but I think this looks better for most people.
      Edit: just to clarify, I know there are differences between the tower 200 and 300, but I think the same logic applies.

      exactly what im saying. Though airflow wouldnt be inhibited that much. So i have a wired headphones, mic, keyboard, controller, and a wireless mouse. Also the speaker cable. Cant put the mouse dongle inside the faraday cage. Big ol knot coming out of it.

    I like the look of this, especially fitting a 420mm rad in something this small. But, it means I'll have to do extra research about which graphics card I use in relation to the issue with reduced heat pipe effectiveness that can be seen in some models, when the IO is at the top.

    This case looks awesome! I love the different ways to stand the case and that TT supports all of them out of the box. The angled TG and overall symmetry of the whole case, especially on the angled stand for horizontal setup, is extremely satisfying to my OCD. LOVE the variety of colors, even though the blue is not a very solid blue despite the yellow and green variants being very vibrant. Less screws = moar good. It's looks to be as user friendly mechanically as it's design is visually appealing. If I were to do a mATX build, this would 100% be my case choice.

    • @SidVirtuous
      @SidVirtuous 5 месяцев назад +2

      Their tower 200 and Tower 100 are both made for itx builds, but they are a bit big for itx cases. I have the 200 and I'm pretty sure it's bigger than a micro ATX build I used to have. But the use of vertical space gives it a smaller desk footprint so it doesn't bother me

      @@SidVirtuous tower 200 actually supports some smaller matx board, it's strange that they don't advertise it as such but includes the needed standoffs in the case

    • @SidVirtuous
      @SidVirtuous 5 месяцев назад

      @@dandyND they probably don't advertise it because it's a bit of a tight squeeze to fit the cables between the motherboard and the cutouts. I almost went with a micro ATX motherboard for my build but I think I'm glad I didn't. It probably would've been alright but I hate when things fit awkwardly in my case. Maybe I'll try that when I inevitably switch to am5 socket

    • @dandyND
      @dandyND 5 месяцев назад

    This case really does look interesting. Amazing all fan mount points take 140mm fans. A few questions: 1) the specs says you can mount two fans in the rear, which seem to put them under the motherboard? --- are the rear fans effectiveness restricted?; 2) how does the cables from motherboard and GPU route? can't tell how big the cut outs are to cables out of the case or how clean that would look.

This just might be the case for my next system in a year or two, but namely due to the size and vertical factor for my desk space. There are so many good cases out these days, Dev's are doing well... But I was waiting for something like this. They did well, though I'm a little concerned about the Cable management for the back of the motherboard etc. and I would need a Motherboard with Wi-Fi.

    With graphics cards being as big as they are today, now we just need motherboard manufacturers to swap the primary slot down to the bottom slot so you don't immediately give up all the other slots. That would be no worse latency wise than the ITX riser cable / card that so many cases use, and honestly if you're going to block all the slots anyway you wouldn't really lose anything by going with an ITX board.

    Hello @Hardware Canucks 👋🏾,
    I just watched your 2024 Cases of the Year and few other videos. I’m stuck between NXZT H6 Flow/H6 Flow RGB vs The Tower 300. Which case you recommend? I am ready to upgrade from my Alienware PC tower and want to build my first pc myself (First-Timer PC Builder).

    My dad is giving me his spare 4090. I already have a prebuilt iBUYPOWER with a 3080. I plan to re use parts of. Have a MSI Z690-a pro, I7 12900, 32gb ram, AIO(iBUYPOWER), 1tb ssd M.2. I plan to just get a new power supply since I think it is going out(RGB on fans arent working properly), a new case, and new fans. Would love to keep the footprint small with a micro ATX case, but this case looks pretty nice! Id keep it upright for sure. After I build the new comp I can sell my Asus Rog 3080 and get some money back. Its barely had a year usage and I just play Rust.

    if the only proper intake is the gpu. and the fans on top, the back ando n the rad are exhaust, won't there be a bit of a problem with negative pressure?

    I love what TT is doing, but they really should have done a retro beige or gray option imo.

    Is there any GPU temp difference when the case is upright vs when it's on its side?

    The motherboard IO being hidden inside the case seems like a massive flaw and would get annoying very quickly. Honestly surprised how many times you praised it.

    I find that the M-atx is perfect for a home server when it comes to size, i know itx is smaller, but as i am using a raid card and a 10gbe ethernet card, i dont need anything larger
