I love these videos so much. Please keep doing these. The audience might be niche but this is the kind of content people will tune in and watch for decades. We need more historians willing to just talk about what they know.
Many thanks Mr Goldsworthy. Your presentations are excellent. Oh that they could have be used in video format in History lessons at all good secondary education schools during the '70s.
I'm glad I found this channel. I read most books from Adrian, unfortunately they went up in smoke after some unwanted visitors decided to destroy the town where I lived. Thank you.
@@essenceofsuchness Mariupol. My wife is from there. In Jan 2015 the russians/separatists blew up the house we were renovating in Shirokina, on Jan 25 same year, a missile hit the market 500m from the apartment that we just bought and moved in. In March '22 our apartment was destroyed and everything burned together with my mother in law. I have no sympathy for any russian casualties or destructions in russia. I'm afraid, I passed that. We had to restart from scratch.
Excellent talk, and excellent videos in general. QNS: How often were the legionaries + auxiliaries paid (monthly, yearly)? Did they keep their money on their person, or was it deposited with the HQ office? Was alcohol allowed in the camp? Also, when during the Civil War or Hannibal's invasion period, new legions were raised at short notice, how did they equip them? I mean, where on earth you do reasonably get 5K sets of arms at short notice?
i have been particularly obsessed with the historical evolution of the phalanx warfare as of late, unsure completely why. epic of gilgamesh i have been diving into, as well as alexanders conquest and the roll his father played, scipio (rome) vs hannibal (carthage), caesers civil war, the 3rd crusade, and then the conquest of napoleon.

I heartily approve
Probably left it overnight to render lol
Only an hour? We’ve been spoiled. Thanks
Can’t believe this guy is on RUclips! A true scholar!
I recommend Sean Gabby and toldinstone if you haven’t checked them out. They are similarly credentialed with great content.
This is excellent as always. Also I for one would enjoy an interview on the disappearance of the 9th legion!
I first thought Mike Myers was giving a presentation!
Gratias tibi ago!!
I just waited 2 days so I could watch on my birthday.😁

Hi Adrian. Thank you for the interesting education.
Very interesting talk, thank you.
Love your vids and your books, please never ever put total war footage in the background
So glad I found this channel. Read one of your books years ago. Thank you for all of the content that you have created and shared.
I've listened to you before on "The Ancients" podcast with Tristan Hughes. How exciting, I've subscribed!

the technology that is an "army" is so profoundly interesting to me, its a moving walking city. especially when we get to the time of napoleon.
Great video! Please do one on the transformations of the structure over the 3rd century!
This is excellent! Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for this material.
Well the more I study the Romans the more I realize
