    I was on the brink of quitting this game after 3 days in but this video has set me on a good path with a substantial foundation of knowledge and cohesive direction. The game was extremely overwhelming with so many new mechanics to learn. Every 20 minutes I had to learn a new system of mechanics, it was becoming daunting and I was getting fatigued. Now I have a good sense of direction and flow to best optimize my player experience. Thanks.

    As of writing this im still in ARR at lvl 44, but i've actually been having quite a nice time so far despite every source i've seen say that its the roughest part of the game, so hearing people say that it gets even better in the expansions makes me very excited to get there. For anyone else who's new that is reading this and may be getting bored of ARR, I think that the key is to pace yourself; if you get tired of doing main and side quests in area after area, see if you can meander off for a bit and try a new class or buy some more gear from the market board to make a cool glamour; personally i found the rogue's guild questline to be really fun. From what i've both heard and played, the game is less about the end goal, and more about the journey of getting there so let the world of the game grab you and look around at your surroundings, and for some quests that might unlock something cool.

    This is super helpful and I swear you're the first ffxiv player kind enough to dumb things down to a new player's level of knowledge and experience. Half the time when I google things I end up with more questions than I started with. It's to a point where I miss the toxic communities of games I'm coming from because at least when they answer your "stupid questions" in a condescending way they dumb it down. Yes, they're doing it to talk down on you, but in ffxiv I feel like everyone answering questions or explaining things do so assuming you have a PhD in the game.
    One thing I wish you had covered in the video is death. I'm just a baby sprout and I haven't died yet, but I dread the day I do because of how unintuitive the game is. Saw another sprout die yesterday and I froze until they disappeared 5 minutes later. Normally I'd go res them but... How do I do that? Can a non-healer even do that? In other games you have res scrolls and stuff to use if you're not a healer, and if that's the case here... how tf does it work? Even if I had an item to do it I worry it won't be intuitive like, stand next to dead person and click item and it starts resurrecting them, and knowing what it looks like would save the humiliation of ending up t-bagging a dead player when you actually want to help and just don't know how.
    Oh, and I do not want to step a foot anywhere near a dungeon with other players. Fuck that. Normally I love dungeons, but the thought of dying in one in ffxiv gives me anxiety. From what I've gathered, you should just release??? More questions to google. Okay when you die apparently you get prompted to return I guess? I hope. No idea what that looks like. But wait! Turns out it's not that simple. You have to hold the button! What button??? How long? And okay, it doesn't return me to a city, that's good to know, funny how NOBODY MENTIONED THAT until I found a reddit post of a sprout who didn't dare click it out of that precise fear. And alright, it takes you to the start of the dungeon where I'm supposed to use the shortcut. Cool! What shortcut??? Wtf does that look like, can I overlook it, run past it, not notice it, is it right there in my face upon return or do I have to do a whole song and dance to make it appear or perhaps is it tucked away in a corner somewhere? Are we talking like,,, shortcuts in IKEA or a fun interactive thing I click to teleport me? I assume the latter, but again, what does it look like? Does it prompt me to teleport to option x y and z, in which case, how do I know which one to click? Oh, but wait! You only release if the boss is dead. Apparently. Or if the healer is low on mana or doesn't have swiftcast up. Cool! Wtf is swiftcast and how do I know if it's up or not?? Will I get yelled at for releasing when I should just wait for a res, or will I get yelled at for waiting for a res? Who knows!
    I originally planned to just... Do the dungeons with trusts first to see things firsthand and learn stuff on my own first, and then try the duty finder after for the real experience, but man... Knowing I won't even learn the whole release and shortcut thing with trusts and not one person has any clear answers to any of my questions gives me so much unnecessary anxiety that I have honestly never experienced with any other game before.
    Either way, thanks for making this video. It made uninstalling less appealing because I don't feel as lost and overwhelmed by the things you did cover.

    • @Soldier1stClass
      @Soldier1stClass  Год назад +1

      So, everything is super simple when it comes to dungeons. Typically you won’t really use return unless you die out in the world. Dying in dungeons, raids, trials, etc, the healer will raise you. Don’t worry about people getting mad, dying is just part of the game, and most people are understanding. Dying in the world, when you hit return, it just takes you to your home aetheryte. No big deal at all. You just have to make your way back to where you died (if you’re continuing something you left off on there). Most of the time, the only reason you’ll return in a dungeon, is if everyone else dies too and you can’t be revived. Then everyone will return to the beginning of the dungeon, and the shortcut will be a bright glowing portal looking thing that appears right in front of the party. You can’t miss it. All you do is just click on it and it’ll take you to the nearest location the party should be close to. Unless everyone dies before a checkpoint and then it’s just running back to that spot. Healers are the only ones that can raise, but Red Mage is special because it’s a DPS with a raise spell. Swiftcast is just an ability that causes the next spell someone uses to have no cast time, and you can be instantly raised if the person uses it before using a raise spell. But, if they don’t have swiftcast, then raise has a timer. Unless multiple people die in rapid succession, the healer should have swiftcast ready to go, and healers should know when to properly use it. Dying isn’t really a major deal, and when you’re a sprout, everyone knows you’re learning the game, and sometimes will help explain stuff in game. If you’re DPS, your job is to worry about doing damage and paying attention to boss and enemy mechanics, and avoiding damage whenever possible. Tanks soak the attention of the enemies and take the brunt of the damage, and healers, well, you already know that one. If you focus on your job, and worry about survival, that’s what’s important. Let others do their jobs and do your own, and you won’t have to worry for the most part. As a side note, dying in the world immediately gives you a prompt to return to the home aetheryte. The person that waited 5 minutes to return only did so because either they stepped away from their keyboard for a second, or waited for someone to heal them before returning. If you’re a healer job, or can switch to one in the open world, you can raise them with a raise spell. But I wouldn’t worry about reviving a random person unless you have the ability to do so. Dying doesn’t really punish for anything you in the open world, so it’s just a matter of returning back to their home aetheryte, and then making their way back. The fast travel system makes it easy to get back to where you were for the most part.

    • @Soldier1stClass
      @Soldier1stClass  Год назад +1

      Oh on a side note, when you’re in a dungeon, raid, etc., if you die, just wait for a raise. The healer should be raising people that die. Unless everyone dies, and then you just follow the prompt to return to the start of the dungeon

    • @c9b7
      @c9b7 Год назад

      @@Soldier1stClass Oh wow, that was fast. Thank you so much! I hope you find random money and pet a cute dog today.
      I think this game and its playerbase outside of the game itself is causing me quite a bit of information overload, and I'm definitely getting ahead of myself. I played a different mmorpg for ten years without venturing far from it so being new again is weird, man. I straight up had to stop myself from trying to understanding parses and other endgame stuff the other day lmao
      One more question in regards to the raise though, does it cause the raised some kind of debuff? People kept saying the reason to release is to avoid that. Is it as big of a deal as people make it out to be? Am I right to assume it only lasts for x amount of time anyway?
      Usually I main mages, sometimes melee dps for a change, sometimes heal and don't tank if I can avoid it, but I started off as an archer in ffxiv to Pavlov myself into liking the game based on the fact that every game I've previously started as an archer I ended up loving and playing for years, albeit never maining archer. Archer is like my crutch class that provides range and higher survivability than mages early on while I'm learning basics. The current plan is to get to Bard and then switch to something else because Silvairre is so right, archery is ultimately not for me. Definitely not going to touch a healer until I'm more comfortable, especially since I'm coming from action combat and tab target is still something I'm trying to wrap my head around. Fiddling around with control settings and hotkeys definitely helped make it feel less clunky and I think I'm getting a hang of it now.
      I tried the game over a year ago and put it back down until just recently, and I tried Arcanist back then, and aero carbuncle was the bane of my existence as a new player so I switched to rogue which was the most fun I had in the game at the time, even more so than thaumaturge, which I thought was going to be my bread and butter because black mage looks like my kind of mage on paper. Obviously I'll eventually want to try everything and level them all to max, but I'm a little at a loss as to which class/job to stick with first. Is lancer/dragoon fun? If all else fails I'll go the rogue/ninja route first since I know I enjoyed it, but... All the classes look fun so idk

    • @Soldier1stClass
      @Soldier1stClass  Год назад +1

      @@c9b7 Lancer/Dragoon was my main job until the end of Shadowbringers, and then I did Samurai until Endwalker launched, then my main was Reaper. All are extremely fun. I’ve only recently started using mage characters cause I’m not a fan of slower paced cast timers.
      On the res sickness thing, I’ve never noticed a major debuff for it, but there’s a minor one. It just doesn’t matter much. I’ve died in Savage content several times and it never really mattered. The only problem with dying in savage, is that there are certain DPS checkpoints you have to meet or the boss will insta kill the party. But you won’t have to worry about it much in normal content. Also, don’t worry about parsing. That’s for extremely advanced players that are actively trying to improve on Savage and Ultimate raids. So you definitely won’t have to worry about that for a long time.

    • @c9b7
      @c9b7 Год назад +1

      @@Soldier1stClass Okay, that explains why I didn't like thaumaturge as much as I thought I would! I was hoping it'd get faster, which I guess it might, just not as fast as I like. I'm so used to having a ton of skills to spam with only a few that charge or have longer cast times, having to move around a lot and not just for mechanics.
      Getting used to rotations in ffxiv is going to be interesting. I can sort of wrap my head around GCD and oGCD, though management will just need practice. It's not... too different from what I'm used to honestly?? Which is pretty much dps buff > priority skills 1-3 > filler skills until priority skills come off cd, fit as many priorities into the buff duration as humanly possible, do rotation normally when the buff is on cd, and not having buff and priority skills uptime at 100% is basically illegal. The only real difference is that skills didn't share cooldowns so you were looking at things separately, which is going to take some getting used to. Oh, and dodging! Using movement keys to avoid mechanics is a death sentence in action combat and I find myself constantly missing my old s even though they're not as necessary here. Though I'm kind of grateful considering timing dodges right is a whole skill on its own to master and I have plenty of stuff on my plate in ffxiv already.
      Tab target is definitely a change in pace from action combat, but looking at endgame content it does get more interesting so I'm looking forward to that in the future! Walking into a tab target mmo from an action combat mmo honestly made me feel like an xbox live lobby 10 year old walking into a chess club. Everything is similar on paper, but isn't. Looking at what goes into endgame content in ffxiv is the same as what I'm used to, yet it somehow looks wildly different. Action combat is like the construction worker to tab target's architect, the quarterback to the chess player, etc. It's like we're playing the same game but one takes book smarts and the other takes street smarts even though we're doing the same thing. That's the only way I can explain the difference. One isn't better than the other, just different.
      Either way, will definitely try out lancer/dragoon and see how it goes! Thanks again for answering my questions and explaining things, you're my hero :')

    You're quite wrong about dungeon gear:
    1. You are guaranteed a drop for your class at the end of the dungeon (that you don't already have). So at worst you will still get one piece. And you can get more from actual drops.
    2. Dungeons is probably the most efficient way of grinding xp that ALSO gives you gear and teaches you the class as you level.
    You could argue they aren't necessary (outside of the MSQ itself) for your first job as you get plenty of XP from MSQ. But for secondary jobs they are definitely one of the best ways to level as long as you don't have ultra long queues (and if you do, there are squadrons which are also super good) and you're not bored of them.

    Coming from a history of playing MMORPG’s I started by playing the FFXIV free version, and honestly, I’m having fun with a realm reborn, which makes me think I’m going to really love the later expansions.
    That said, do you have any videos to explain “Limit Breaks”? And something more about the Chocobos (I just got it) I was told they can fight by my side? Does this also happen in dungeons?

    • @Soldier1stClass
      @Soldier1stClass  3 года назад +4

      So, Limit Breaks are party wide. You typically only use them as a DPS, because they deal heavy damage and can help finish off the boss. Healers use them out of desperation to save the party from wiping because it heals/revives all party members to full. Tanks typically only use them in special situations, but my rule of thumb is to only use damage limit breaks in the last 3-5% of a bosses health bar. As for Chocobos, they can be summoned using Gysahl Greens, and fight along side you in the overworld. They don’t come into dungeons with you. But, they’re good for fates, and other fights out in the open.

      Follow this link and scroll down to the segment at the bottom where it says “for friends”, and it explains how the process works. You also have to enter the referral code on the Mogstation where you created your service account, but you have to register the code and then become a subscriber. So you can enter the code now, but you’ll have to purchase a subscription for the rewards to start being earned. But you need to enter the code before buying the sub. At least that’s how I read what it says anyway. So I guess you can enter it on the free trial, but you’ll only be able to earn stuff once you start subbing. na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/friend_recruit/

    • @Soldier1stClass
      @Soldier1stClass  2 года назад +1

      Since you’ll start back at level 1 with lancer, it’s honestly up to you whether you want to grind those levels, as you’ll need to be level 43 to continue where you left off with Paladin. Paladin is a really awesome tank, especially at Max Level of 90. It’s one of my personal Favorites besides Dark Knight, but for utility sake, Paladin is arguably the best tank. However, before Endwalker, my main was Lancer / Dragoon, and it’s one of my favorites jobs in the entire game. I switched to Reaper for Endwalker, but you definitely can’t go wrong with Dragoon for DPS. If you’re trying to avoid burnout, I’d stick with Paladin, but if you’re not worried about burn out in ARR, then feel free to try out lancer! It’s a lot of fun after you start getting more and more skills!
