- This is an old Sony Beta recording that I made of a Showtime Concert. I think it was around 1979. I just about wore out the tape trying to learn the songs. My favorite song in the concert is "Music Speaks Louder Than Words" A great group in their prime.

We need them in 2023 and beyond. Their music will live on forever.
They will live forever
Another proud member of the “Crush on Mary Club”. Thank you.
I met Mary after a 1965 Carnegie Hall concert and at Peace Rallies in the 60’s. Then later in the 70’s when the band was on hiatus. Graceful and hip
and not full of herself. One of a kind
I have loved Peter Paul and Mary for over 60 years. One of the highlights in my life was seeing them in concert in Baltimore many years ago
Wish there were more groups like them. Their songs were meaningful and sung superbly
Those were the days my friend,
I thought they’d never end.
But they did ☹️
Neil, Those days are gone. The 50s and the 20s were some of the best AND some of the worst times, but I still miss them.
I love the rendition from 2 yrs ago on the radio & I sang and we(?) kept making more stanzas. Happened with Battle Hymn of Republic also, 👍
How wonderful is Mary Travers ...beautiful to hear and see her smile
Just gorgeous in so many ways. I miss her dearly.

I’ve had a crush on that gal since l hit puberty in 1963. And their music as a trio was always an exhibit of bravery, class and style.
Yes, what a beautiful woman she always was !
i pray they will always be remembered as one of the greatest folk groups ever.
A magical combination of voices.
RIP Mary Travers, bassist Dick Kniss, and my wife Robin, with whom I saw them four times.
Been watching these old videos of Peter Paul and Mary. One thing that stands out is that Mary sings with her whole body not just her voice.
This is making me cry! It brings back so many great and special memories..just listen to those beautiful voices and harmony!
There was NO ONE like P,P, & M...I'm so glad I got to see them multiple times; my Dad would make it dad-daughter evening...such memories!!
Hello Sarabeth
how are you doing today?
So special.
so love to hear mary sing ... miss this group. thanks for the post
...as do I...
Surely one of the best groups of our life time. So in tune with things. These groups have made a huge difference for the better!
can't say they never made a bad album. think i own all of them. the concerts are priceless.
I saw them so many times in concert! They were always so wonderful! Mary was so beautiful and that voice! It was so sad when she passed away! I dont know if people know this but after their smaller concerts they would sty an you could talk to them! One time Mary commented on how small my feet were...and how she disliked having bigger feet! They voices were so pure! I loved going to their concerts so much! Oh and Peter kissed me...each time i talked to them...3 years in a row! So exciting for a shy teenager! They were the best..their beautiful harmony...so beautiful!
As I am once again moved to see Peter, Paul and Mary and hear their wonderful familiar music, I feel the need to express my personal prayer of thanks to the music and songs PP&M gifted to our world. I was just becoming a young adult during the explosion of music of the 60’s and 70’s. My tastes in music are varied and wide-ranging, but I’ve always gravitated to listening and playing acoustic guitar. Therefore, more than any other acoustic group, the angelic harmonies, musicianship, and professional presence PP&M always brought to their performances touched my music heart like no other. Their music has been a significant influence on the 60+ years of my life where I have enjoyed singing, writing songs, and performing. Time has passed; I am getting older; Mary has left us - but like an enduring hologram, those four people (don’t forget their wonderful bass player, Dick Kniss, also deceased) and their music remains in a sacred place in my soul - for which I will always be grateful.
I live and breathe P,P and M!!! Saw them many times live and I still listen to their music every day!
This could have been written by me. (although the base player would be Okun) Since I grew up in the north of Norway this is a tribute to the power of "the glue" the Peter talks about. TY for sharing.
Sadly, I believe Paul is now also gone, leaving just Peter out of all of them. :(
@@kristineweber8084 Paul is still here
@@ffivguy1990 Thank you. I'm glad to hear that!
We need their voice today more than ever
I grew up with this group. The first time I saw them was at a hootnanny in CT. I remember Odetta was the headliner. Then I got to see them in South Lake Tahoe when they got back together again. The third time I had a chance to see them was at a benefit at a winery in Los Gatos, CA. I could not make that one and I never got another chance to see them again. If there's a Heven, I'll see them there.
Funny tidbit..my first wedding was outdoors in the back of my parents house..beautiful setting! I turned to my husband ( now my ex for along time) and i sang "Follow Me"to him! Funny (not so,)he looked at me and said..."What are you doing?" Not with a very happy look on his face lol..sure hope my sons dont see this....its just when i heard that song it brought it all back!
Peter Yarrow's voice could make rocks
cry! So so beautiful! As we're all three!!!
I feel privileged to have seen them from their beginning in NY. For 4.5 decades up
To Mary’s passing. Wonderful performers
Loved Peter talking about the song "Puff the Magic Dragon" Oh how we all loved that song!
RIP, Mary Travers. It doesn't matter what song or when, just love it.
These three singers (and musicians) sound very beautifully, and it's a great pleasure to hear this wonderful double bass. Thank you all.
Every time I hear that contralto sound of Mary"s I'm thankful she joined Noel Paul & Peter to form the most remarkable musical influence of the age. What an enjoyable concert !!!!
Voices from heaven! All three were great! Angels all of them!!
This is a priceless concert. I've learned so much about them---their individual spirits. And when they come together.....well, it's beyond my words.
Yes, these ‘times are a changing’. Thank you PPM.
Oh DAMN how those songs are pertinent to today!!! The times are definitely a changing!!!
Best accoustic trio ever. You had seriousness comedy and all sorts of emotions and beautiful guitars and harmony voices. It will never be again but we have these videos and wonderful memories.
The mamas and papas were in the same league.
@@Dougdenslowe714 I loved the Mamas and the Papas..I wish would have made more accoustic folk ballads but I understand that folk was making a transition around 1969 into more pop sounds. Have you ever been to one of their live shows ? I mean Mamas and Papas...
@@rondelby2482 sadly no.They rarely toured (due to their precise harmonies being their starring element) and who would have thought they’d break up after 2 years! They didn’t even put out a “live LP” (Live at Monterey was released years after their breakup, mostly for a cash grab) and their fans were begging for one.Anyhow, the answer is no, never did catch them in person.I was too young, at the time ,to stay an extra day at Monterey but I would have loved to have been in the audience that night.
@@Dougdenslowe714 I wonder if all their materal was pop music or did they put in some accoustic ballads similar to PP&M?
Good stuff. I've loved PP & M since the Sixties, and I've met and talked with Mary.
Don't go down to the quarry, one of my favorite songs they do. They sure have fun with it. The three certainly have a very eclectic repertoire. I've had the good fortune to have seen them in concert several times; they have never disappointed.
It is so wonderful that you preserved this and shared it with us. It's hard to express the pervasiveness of songs like "Leaving On A Jet Plane" when it first came out. Hearing it brought back so many emotions from that time. Thank you for posting/sharing.
I remember listening/watching this concert when I was 8 or 9 years old. I loved it then and still do today! Reminds me of innocence and hopefulness of growing up a 1970s baby. 😊
When I was very young my mother, sister, and I would watch the PBS show that they did. I remember watching that concert several times and yelling to my mother they were on. I loved them so much growing up. I have almost all their music on iTunes or Apple Music. I saw another Peter, Paul, and Mary where they sang all the same songs from that concert on PBS. Mom my sister and I would sing Leaving on a Jet Plane when my sister and I would go to fly to California to see my father.
I also remember watching “The Miracle of Life” several times as well. I was brought up by 2 hippies if you can’t tell.
I thought I'd seen all the concert tapes of PP&M. This was a wonderful new discovery for me. Thanks for the presentation!
Love how Mary sings out “JUSTICE!” in ‘If I Had a Hammer. They’re one of the few groups who practiced what they preached in their music. If they believed in a cause, they gave no consideration if it might harm record sales or cause death threats (which both indeed did happen). They never got tired of singing “the same songs”, like other performers complain about doing. It’s because their songs had meaning - not always political, but always relevant to the human experience. Mary’s voice is sorely missed - both literally and figuratively.
Representative of our generation ❤❤❤❤ and formidable 🌈🌈🌈🌈👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Excellent. Love you
Thanks for posting this! I saw PP&M a couple times in Memphis! I forgot what a good show they put on. Like you, I've tried to learn several songs. I think my favorite PP&M songs are The Wedding Song and Light One Candle.
The story behind the wedding song is outstanding too.
Thanks so much for posting this video. How magnificant were they! Their voices creating such harmony. They were just made for each other. They had such an impact on music. I admire and love their beautiful voices and personalities.
I miss Mary, so beautiful, gracieus, full of energy and so talented, R.I.P
Thanks for sharing, Never seen this one before and it must have been around the time the Such Is Love album came out in 1982. But it could have been earlier.
This was live in Ontario in 1980
Amazing concert - pure class
Thank You for this, I love them. There will never be another group like this one. Man could Mary Sing!
They really had a vast catalog. But it just isn't the same (for me) without a Lightfoot song. For Loving Me, or Early Morning Rain, especially. But this is still a great concert. Thanks for posting it.
This is wonderful music!
I saw PPM at least fifteen years ago. By then Mary was just sat and sang. But still she had a strong singing voice. I knew this was probably the last time I will see all three together. I just wanted to hear her sing Blowing In The Wind. My wife wanted to leave and I said I won't leave until they played Blowing In The Wind. We stayed.
Great stuff. Love P, P, and M. No auto tune or lip synching. Just great songs and beautiful voicers
What makes me sad in the old videos is seeing all the young men in the audience who went on to eternity because of the Vietnam War...they never saw it coming...

Thank you for the wonderful memories, just saw them once in DC live in the 60s.
Thank you so very much for sharing this! So wonderful! I have been in the audiences of so many of their concerts. Such a blessing to watch this!
I wish that we all had the ability to record live concerts starting in the 1950s and 60s, like we do now, as there must be dozens, even hundreds, concerts like this one where PPM would mix it up a bit, just for fun. And then what about all the other folkies who never got as successful as PPM, so there are no recordings and films of their early years. And yes, I'd love to hear the birth pangs of rock 'n roll, Elvis in the 1950s.
Well there is Tonight in Person from 1965 where you do get the entire PP&M concert. Just search Peter Paul and Mary Tonight in Person. You can also search Peter Paul and Mary Sydney Opera House 1970 and get the entire concert
They were the music of my teens. I saw them live ONCE- I think it was in the '90's.
They stayed at my house when I was 15. Peter sang my four year old sister to sleep with a song he said he’d finished the week before. It was Puff the Magic Dragon. 1962? 63?
Wow, how’d you get them to stay at your house?
I saw them from their early days at Carnegie Hall and at Civil Right Marches all the way into the 2006. I went to Mary’s Memorial
I miss her and the guys
Ok. I've fallen in life with the tall one...lol. Imagine hearing them in person. Also Imagine singing along with them as a group...it'd be a spiritual moment!
love them
We need their group nowadays ❤😊
Good grief...they were brilliant.

You’re welcome Paul!
This reminds me that I went to PPM concert at Mineapolis in 1988. Mary joked her daughter*s fiance was a republic.
I heard her joke once. " Well, somebody's got to marry them...."
So what? I am one, too, and I love PPM.

Right in the same category with The Seekers!
Thank you for sharing this! Yes, the video and audio show limitations of the tech available to you at the time; I know, because I had to use the same. Perhaps computer editing could reduce static, but might take more time than the described multi-track recording of comedy song sound effects. So thanks for sharing what otherwise would not be seen, because no one wants to spend that much time on it. (Perhaps an original exists in Showtime archives somewhere?) Where was the concert?
