- What would it take to stop a ride on mower from starting?
Start with the basics - Air, Fuel & Spark.
Sometimes, the answer is stranger than you think.
Therefore it is important to make the complex, simple :)
Great video Max. I have the same Greenfield. Thank you mate!
Good to hear. You are welcome! 😊
Good video mate 👍🏼
Cheers Mate, I hope it was helpful
@@MiracleMAX indeed!!
As a further observation.....why has Greenfield discontinued production of the best mower for Australian conditions? I have tried Rover Rancher, Kubota and Husqvarna but always came back to Greenfield .........on my 4th one now! Rancher lasted a year and the Kubota had me in hock for blade replacement over two years. Been mowing acreage for last 30 years.....5, 2.5, 4 and lastly 3200m2. What would be your recommendation to replace the Greenfield?
I believe they got bought out.....
You are correct Max....I did a search. Can't believe they were taken over by Cox. Should have been the other way round. Always thought Cox mowers sat too high and would be easily tipped over on a slope.
The Greenfield brothers didnt live up to their oldmans expectations and they went under with dept.
Is replacing a solenoid a job for professionals or could it be done at home?
Problem is the delay in getting a job done at the busy time of the year when
the grass ain't going to stop growing. ! I have a 13hp 32" with a dead starter
and I've had "solenoid" trouble in the past.
Hey Hamish,
Welcome to the channel!
Have you diagnosed the problem, identifying that the fault as the solenoid?
Do you have power to the starter when cranking?
Can you hear clicking at the solenoid when cranking?
Have you tested for power on both sides of the solenoid during cranking?
Do you have power going to the switch wire on the solenoid when cranking?
Depending on your skill level, a solenoid is not a big job, but if you haven't diagnosed it as a solenoid fault, you may be wasting your money.
These have lots of faults with safety switches, including the oil switch. Have you tested all those?
I hope these questions might help you to find the fault
MiracleMAX
@@MiracleMAX No clicking..........totally dead.. When using the key start the key tends to stick on even after it's fired. My daughter used the machine and was not aware that the key sticks and has to be returned to neutral! Could that have burnt out the solenoid? All wiring seems OK and the battery is brand new this season. Thanks for your advice mate.
@@aqueenslander If the key is left in the 'on' position when the engine is actually running, that means the starter motor is still engaged - which usually means a dead starter if left for a long time.
Did you test for voltage at the starter motor with the key in the 'on' position?
Hello, just wondering if you have fixed any problems with the blade drive mechanism?.
I have a Greenfield Evolution 3 and the rear-drive pully for the blades is just flopping about underneath and I can't see how to get at it.
Sorry Peter, I haven't.
I've done a quick search on the net and there doesn't seem to be much help out there, but I did come across this forum that might be useful.
www.outdoorking.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/12089/Greenfield_Ride-On_Parts_List_.html
From my experience with other brands, it's not unusual to have to pull a lot of other pulleys etc., to access belts and other items underneath.
I also found this manual, but I'm not sure if that will be much help.

@@MiracleMAX Hello max, Thank you for your prompt reply to my greenfield problem.
It looks to me as if I will have to dismantle the whole of the stop/go control linkage to get at the pulley below.
That is not a job I really feel competent to do, but mower repair shops in and around the Bathurst area of NSW are quoting mid-December before they will even look at it.
Max hi l have a greenfield 25-34 fastcut and it has trouble going up hill lack of drive, l know to hit the steel bar but do l have to loosen something first for it to move and tighten the drive thanks Doug
Hey Doug,
Are you suggesting that the belt is slipping?
Not sure if this is the same model as yours, but this video might help.

Max thanks for the quick reply and the video was great, l see from the video l only need to tighten the belt so loosen the pulley retensen the belt and tighten the pulley. l hope it will be as easy as it looks thanks again Doug
@@dougpridham8782 No worries, happy to help. If I haven't made a video, I can usually find a video that can help.
Let us know if it fixes the problem. 😊
Max gday thanks for your reply and video on how to adjust the belt on investigation l could see the belt had no more adjustment left so l replaced the drive belt and did the cutter belt at the same time your videos made it a simple job, thanks again. Doug
@@dougpridham8782 Glad you were successful Doug! Congrats on your repair. 😁
Have you got any videos on fixing the slide mechanism on the seat mine just slides and won't lock in carn't find anythink online and greenfield won't help, said to take it in to the local greenfield dealership
Hey Aaron, sorry no I don't. But if it is like most seat slide assemblies, it should have a spring that holds the mechanism in place and a lever that pulls against spring tension to move the ratchet out of position to move the seat. Is the spring missing? If you look on RUclips for seat adjustment you might find something that might help. Here is an example: ruclips.net/video/X__1SmYR7JI/видео.html
I hope that helps :)

Hi max I got a greenfield ride on with no spark could it be the coil thanks
Hey Steve,
It could be a range of things including magneto or the earthing wire. Do you have power to the magneto? Have you checked the spark plug itself? Can you get spark from the plug lead itself with the spark plug removed as shown in the video? Is the magneto to flywheel gap correct? Is the flywheel covered in rust?
Are all the safety switches working correctly? Are all fuses in good working order with no voltage drops?
MiracleMAX
Thanks Max I have got spark now and started it up after taking that wire off the coil, can I run it with that wire disconnected or why is it running while it’s disconnected what could be the problem with that wire. It’s the same as the mower in the video but a 32 deluxe thank you so much very helpful video but don’t know what to do about this wire
@@stevehibberd6729 Is it properly connected to the throttle? Are all the safety switches working correctly? Have you checked all the fuses, including the in-line ones?
hi Max,
my greenfields is slightly older than the one in your video and turns over freely however won't fire even with the home brew.
it has spark, fuel and air and the seat kill switch is connected.
any ideas as it is driving me nuts
It's good that you have started with the basics.
I gather it is a good blue spark?
Is the fuel correct (not diesel 😉) and clean?
Is it getting good air flow? Is the air filter clean? Is the exhaust blocked?
Another thing to consider is the engine condition. Have you carried out a compression test? When were the valves adjusted last?
Here is a link to a video I did on a Briggs and Stratton engine that will guide you thru the valve adjustment method.

I hope that give you a few ideas.
Cheers

yes blue spark on a new plug.
yes new fuel and unleaded always works better than diesel in an unleaded engine ;)
air filter is clean however have been trying to start it without the filter installed
@@danielmortell8696 So I guess the next step is to see if it has a blocked exhaust (you could always remove it to test), but firstly, why not try a compression test and do the valve clearances.
Thanks Mark. No, I didn't put diesel in it. That diesel fuel can is just here for looks...lol That spark plug needs some sand blasting!
Yep, diagnosis would be so much easier if our customers made our life easier!
Yep. The first thing I would have done is take a sniff and then tell him that somebody put some diesel into the tank. It's very easy to tell the difference of the smell between gas and diesel.
Yes, you are right. I just started with spark as a logical process. It had several faults, including the seat switch, which I fixed off camera. But yes, you can certainly smell and feel the difference between the fuels.
Guess what? He is the same guy that added unleaded to his diesel van! Bad luck or just having a bad day? Either way, you think he would have learnt from the previous mistake.
ruclips.net/video/cbxIDoEynqc/видео.html
Thanks for your comments :)
Yeah, you would think that he would be more careful. Or maybe he just wants to give you more business.
You don't see me complaining! :)
As tough as Greenfield is you can’t allow for muppets 😂
Yup, you are right! 😁🤔
Yellow can for diesel, red for petrol.
Yup, just gotta convince the customer that the can colour is not meant to match the colour of the vehicle! 🤣😉🤔
