Even though those little ones were saved, it’s tragic that they were deprived of their loving families and happy childhoods. Walter Suesskind paid the ultimate price for his bravery and human decency. It’s good there are historians who keep their memories alive.

The Susskind bridge you mention is a classic, similar but smaller to the better-known "thin bridge" that you can see farther southeast on the Amstel.
It's an entry point to the Jewish quarter, along the northwestern side of the river. One canal down you have another holocaust monument, on the New Emperor canal (de Nieuwe Keizersgracht), called the "Shadow Kay" or Schaduwkade, memorial plaques on the canal's opposite side of the houses from where Jews were taken away in the occupation. Northeast of this canal are various other monument and also the Sephardic Synagogue. Enjoy!
