      Peachy Presh don’t stress too much about silicones! Non-sulfate shampoos will nicely rinse it out on a wash day!

    • @AlysonJackson
      @AlysonJackson 5 лет назад +6

      MsGraciie13 silicones create a super waxy protectant barrier, keeping moisture out and causing product buildup! It does not wash out so using a non-sulfate shampoo mixed w/ a tbsp of baking soda will remove the silicone buildup for a fresh start in hair products (definitely don’t forget to use lots of conditioner after this process)!!

    • @AlysonJackson
      @AlysonJackson 5 лет назад +7

      Peachy Presh don’t stress a lot about your products & feeling like you have to spend lots of money on sulfate, silicone, & paraben free items! My favorite line is Cantu rn as of being ONE of the cheapest items (retails around $5). I have been struggling to find a gel that meets all the same requirements as the Giovanni one I loved before they discontinued it at my store & discovered there are plenty of other options!! Conditioner is not hard to find, Suave Essentials line is $2 for a 3o fl oz! Another cheap drugstore conditioner is Tresemme’s Botantical one (use only the conditioner, the shampoo has sulfates) & for a little bit more money, about $4-6 ranging, I got another one that’s so good & it’s a 32 fl oz bottle (it’s also the successor of the Tresemme Naturals line which was another popular curly girl hair product before it was discontinued). Lastly, a simple on part baking soda and three parts water in one bottle and two parts apple cidar vinegar (optional: adding essential oil drops) & two parts water is a simple & natural way to cleanse your hair!!

      I have a sulfate and paraben free conditioner but it has one silicone, which is dimethicone. She does say it dissolves with water, but still a bit worried
      (it also has dimethiconol, not sure of the difference)

    • @AlysonJackson
      @AlysonJackson 5 лет назад +2

      • KCIV • not all silicones dissolve in water. Dimethicone is also know as the “silicone oil” that creates shine but silicones always tend to create a waxy layer on your hair and that creates product buildup over time. That’s the reason why silicones are to be a no go. Now the other ingredient you mentioned, dimenthiconol, is the water-soluble ingredient that is told to provide v little buildup.

    Ok, I had to pause the video at your Target natural hair aisle. My aisle looks nothing like this, I feel so disrespected right now. If you saw the bathroom closet they set aside as the section for products for curly - namely black hair care - you'd cry. Hell, I'm about to cry. I'd kill to have all of this within reach at one store.

We also have to watch out for DEA and animal testing. Your hair is growing out beautifully! My hair is back to retaining length, and I believe that I will hit bra strap length or mid back length by the end of the summer.

    I've done no paraben, no sulfate, and no silicone for a month and it created the following:
    - Moldy/mildew smell; cold blow dry works but not when you wet your hair
    - Too oily; need to wash every day
    - Smelly hair by the end of the day, essential oil made it worse
    Too many issues with chemical-free products and switched back to regular shampooing and conditioning. Zero problem and my hair is healthier than ever.
    Have you had mildew/moldy smell on your hair? I don't have curls but curious for curly haired girls out there.

    • @mialove2894

      Naruru - Art Dump Station ...curly hair and straight hair are completely different... straight hair is not as dry at curly hair! Curly hair needs alotttttt of moisture while straight hair most likely needs only a bit of conditioner.. straight hair is also more likely to get oily than curly hair so stick to your routine and talk to your hair dresser and you should be good 😁😁

    don't worry too much about silicones. A non sulfate shampoo can wash out silicones even some co washes if they have the ingredient cocamidoprpyl betaine. There are many non sulfate shampoos with this ingredient the only one i can think of right now is cantu cleansing cream shampoo with no sulfates, silicone, mineral oil, or parabens. Any product that you use too much can cause build up not just silicones

    • @berchyzgb4423
      @berchyzgb4423 6 лет назад

      Really?? I just comment in need of advice, I washed my hair with sulfate free shampoo for the firat time, I'm so happy I finally found it in my country, and then I read all of my other hair products, and I think all of them have silicones, and I just read that ingredient that you said, and my new shampoo has it, so will it really be able to clean my head, buildup and all?

    • @shalarialenoir3806
      @shalarialenoir3806 6 лет назад +1

      NLT4Ever #1 what if your shampoo has Cocamidopropyl betaine but further down the ingredient list is a silicone? Is it still effective? Or is the shampoo actually coating your hair with silicone despite having something that's supposed to remove it?

    • @noellabethel433
      @noellabethel433 6 лет назад

      That betaine ingredient is also a known irritant. Three sources confirm this. If anyone notices a bad reaction, it could be this

    • @8billitsa

  • @Latriise
    @Latriise 8 лет назад +14

    That Target has the haircare aisle of my dreams. :) Btw, you accidentally switched the description for silicones. Dimethicone = not water soluble. Amodimethicone = water soluble (when paired with Tricedeth-12 and Centrimonium Chloride).
    Also, my holy grail shampoo has sulfates. I've tried sulfate free shampoos, but each one was more harsh, drying and stripping than my regular sulfate one (which uses a milder sulfate, like ammonium laureth sulfate). So I understand that sulfates are supposed to be harsher (esp. sodium lauryl sulfate, which I avoid), but sulfate free shampoos don't get a free pass from me. And in the case of the sulfate vs. sulfate-free shampoos, experience trumps everything else.

    you forgot to mention paraffin, petrol derivatives, alcohols and phthalates.
    - paraffin is just basically candle wax. it acts just like silicones. check "paraffinum liquidum" on the ingredients.
    - petrol derivatives, such as mineral oil, can clog your pores. avoid having them on your hair and also on your skin. it doesn't let your skin breathe or your scalp and it eventually leads to slower hair growth.
    - if alcohol dries out your skin, you can imagine what it's doing to the hair. especially dry hair. avoid it at all costs.
    - phthalates are proven to be related to cancer and those motherfuckers still put that shit on the ingredients. don't use them. they are also used in medicines, be careful with that.

      Julia Corrêa They're good and bad alcohols. They're also drying and moisturising alcohols, so there's no need to avoid all alcohols. You can find a list of names, of alcohols that are bad\drying and ones that are good\moisturising on Google. That way you know which ones to use and which ones to avoid. Remember people, always do your own research.

    Bianca, from discussions and research, I figure that mineral oils are a no-no for natural hair, but my hair does EXCELLENT with traditional pomades like Dax. Do you think that the 'hype' about sulphates etc. are a bit unnecessary? I am not discrediting the value of good advice for hair, but I also know what works for my hair. I currently use a Suave Naturals shampoo which DOES contain sulphates, but I love it because it leaves my hair soft!!!!! and on my wash day, I literally have almost NO shed hair - honestly!!! I follow it up with my Shea Moisture Extra-Moisture Detangler. My hair grows very well with Dax etc. and sulphate cleansers. What is your take on this?

    @BiancaReneeToday I am caucasian, and I have Baby fine curly hair and I've noticed with using sulfates and silicones, they weigh my hair down. But I was still using sulfates. Recently I had to completely stop because I have very very sensitive skin, and have to use eczema and dermatitis approved skin care fregrance free etc. Even shave certain ways and certain razors and lotion. I was washing with a wonderful sulfate silicone paraben free co wash / conditioner and only using a sulfate free shampoo here and there because I was also not needing to wash my hair for 1- 2 days in between sometimes longer. I had to do this as well , because the sulfates I noticed started to dry my hair out , burn my scalp , make it so itchy and inflamed, more oily and painful with split hair and hair loss. I followed my routine, but put the sulfate shampoo on today to see if that's the issue. Sure enough within 10 min my hair was red itchy and uncomfortable I had to put a natural scalp and hair oil by ORS that I love on my hair and it soothed it right away. I will be throwing them out. But my question is I see sodium cloride a lot in shampoos and products I know its salt. Should sensitive girls like me be using them? and are they ok if used in a sulfate free silicone free clarifying shampoo? I worry now about using them .

    Every target I been to in NYC, looks likes this. Even though I have researched and read my product labels this was a great refresher course. I find that a lot a products say on the front "no sulfates, no parabens" but silicones seems to be in every product I am curious to try 😢.

    I noticed that not every Target carries a whole aisle dedicated to curly hair products. There's a Target near my house that does and further away on one of those strip mall highways that Target only has a tiny column on the shelf labeled "Ethnic Hair Care" -_- I take my ass to the one with the Curly Hair AISLE.

    Hey girl, first of all I'm so happy I found your channel! It made me start transitioning to natural hair because I had NO IDEA about what I was doing to my curly hair! When I started watching your videos I immediatly switched to natural products, but now I've read somewhere that to get rid of the silicone buildup in my hair from before, I should wash my hair 1 last time with a shampoo that contains sulfates to get the silicones out. Is this true?
    Ps. U have an awesome personality, keep doing what u do it means so much!

    It's best to invest in a good products even though they're expensive. My mom's cheap ass doesn't like to buy good stuff cuz it cost a little bit more but in the end your hair falls out your hair is dry and it doesn't look the same my hair was so beautiful when I was younger and bouncy. My hair looks all raggedy like a broom.I always wear hat's now. I really appreciate that you made this video so I know that there's stuff that I could put it to my hair that won't damage it further.

    Hi Bianca Renea....love your channel so much!! Thank you so much for all your info. I've just started my CG journey a few months ago and my hair is already looking so much better. Deep conditioning every week. 😀 Question...are the Shea Moisture products silicone free? I'm just wondering why it doesnt say silicone free on the labels?
