@@diegom3695 I have to correct you because your comments, "That was his own choice", and, "Everyone had paddles", are simply not true. This race was the opening round of the 1992 FIA Formula One World Championship and the only cars running semi automatic gearboxes with a steering wheel mounted paddle shift were Ferrari with their F-92A and Williams with their FW14B. Every other car on the grid, the remaining 22 out of the 26 starters, had a manual gearbox that required the driver to take their hand off the steering wheel to change gear. Senna drove for McLaren in 1992 and for the opening two races they ran their updated 1991 car, the MP4/6B. The MP4/6B was not designed to have a semi automatic gearbox with a steering wheel mounted paddle shift fitted and as a result the drivers could not choose to run manual or semi automatic. The car ran with a manual H pattern gearbox like every other car on the grid with the exception of the Ferrari and Williams entries. Ferrari introduced the first semi automatic gearbox with a paddle shift system in 1989 with their type 640 or F1-89. The second team to introduce a similar system was Williams in 1991 with the FW14. The third team was McLaren with the MP4/7A in 1992 that they ran from the third race in Brazil onwards. It was commonplace in 1992 for teams to begin the season with cars from the previous season that were either evolutions of, or cars they finished the previous season with. It must be noted that a semi automatic gearbox was not introduced to make the cars easier to drive, it was done to make the cars quicker over a lap and subsequently a race distance.
@@bentsuzzin5111 remember being in the pits at the us gp in Phoenix- the way all the pit crews helped each other was awesome. The Ferrari’s of Nigel and Gerhard came in two days in and were already half built out of the truck. You could feel the animosity and rivalry b/w Prost and Senna. You could also see how much Senna’s mechanics loved him and how much he appreciated them. Prost was all business shows up to check his settings doesn’t greet anyone leaves like he’s got explosive diarrhea. When those Ferrari’s hit the test laps with the paddle shifters you could hear every shift...bam, bam, bam 💥. The regular shifting cars sounded long drawn out shifts. That was a different world.
No iPads on wheels? Are you fucking insane? These cars, the 1992 cars, had TC, ABS, automatic shifting, so calm down, yeah, I understand that you hate technology
He drove with core strength.manual gear transmission! No driver aids ! He kept up with that Williams ...who else could have done that ? Only one Senna!
Written below by A. Santos, below: "Senna was the last champion in history with a car with a mechanical manual transmission in 1991, without revs control or electronic accelerator that synchronized and managed the delivery of power and changes via software, with everything starting to be integrated together with the transmission and engine via electro-hydraulic system. The 3 biggest of all of this golden era 1950-91: Fangio, Clark and Senna in chronological order, it doesn't matter who is first because the title will be in great hands with whichever one it is. Then came the era electronics and button presses. Ps. Without ever forgetting that Ayrton is the only driver in F1 history to win a championship with the much-hyped monster V12 engines. Only he was able to tame them."
To put into context, the 1992 Mclaren compare to Williams lap time is like comparing 2019 Williams to 2020 Mercedes. For Senna to keep up with a Williams for a full lap, that’s utterly astonishing.
At the time, Williams with active suspension was very superior to the Mclaren Honda. Almost 1 second per lap. The only way Senna could equalize this difference was in rainy conditions or making an excepcional pole lap.
@@DreadfullMind No it wasn't. You do know that in 1993 all the top teams had active-suspensions right? Ayrton's McLaren's MP4/8 was extremely advanced and had better electronics and active-suspensions than anyone, it just had a weaker engine compared to Williams and Benetton earlier in the season. But in terms of driving aids, weight, chassis, being easy to drive and such, the 1993 McLaren was the best.

Went to Monza that year and was cheering like mad for Senna and seeing him win there when the English crowd I was with was downhearted after Mansell went out, was glorious. A great day and experience, and the sounds of these things were the loudest noise I've ever heard. The Benetton's were the noisiest if I recall.
since its coming from someone who was there, what was it like hearing those unearthly roars of then engines?
@@timewarpeatscrayons I've been to airshows and have experienced loudness; they were nothing compared to the sound generated from those engines. We were given ear defenders for the race but I was having none of it, and over the course of the next few days whenever I heard a loud car zoom past my hotel (a few of them were Ferrari's being Italy) it would take me right back to the race. The loudest engines came from the Cosworth V8's of the Benetton's driven by Brundle and Schumacher (who started last and finished third) I found. Can't believe its 30 years this year now since that time. Went to Indy the following year but the noise generated from the Indycars were nothing compared to the F1 behemoths!
Nothing in the world like the music made by a high performance V-12 engine! 🔥🔥🔥
These were the most exciting years of the modern formula 1 era.
SENNa 90s era was crucial ! Till this day
This is better than an entire season of modern F1.
let's not forget that in addition to being and remaining the best driver of all time, he was also a very great man and helped and donated poor children a lot! his glory !
F1 at his best...never forget you Ayrton...race in heaven
Coisa top, glamorosa e emocionante. Isso sim é um trabalho divertido, queria eu ter sido um piloto de F1
Um piloto e uma máquina, é de arrepiar!
Thanks for posting ...reminds me of go-carting at 17 ...I won 🏆 a race 🏁 never forget this (good memory) I won an album (Best of British pop stars) or something to this effect ...album cover was purple, etc 💜 ...Fanshawe go-carts, in London Ontario ...this would have been in 1981 ...don't believe business exists anymore 😢
Oh wow, I remember that sound. I was sitting right in front of the first turn in Montreal in 1992. Awesome.
Que gran piloto ...el mejor de todos los tiempos
Ayrton el mas grande, maestro!! Idolo e inspiración!!👏👏
Sounds so good incredible sound
Beautiful sound. Best driver ever
when you have a car that awesome, its not even about winning, its about enjoying the coolest car in the race.
Respect for this dude! A real talent!👍👍🏎🏎🤟
Puts...
Isso é uma maravilha!
O melhor piloto tentando extrair o melhor da máquina.
O som das reduzidas é show!
MOTOR GRITAANDO!!!
Senna is truly a legend 🐐
Eu não vou digitar as qualidades da tocada do Senna, pois eu vou me empolgar e vai passar a ser um livro, isso era um da arretado..
I live near the circuit and can hear the cars on a Sunday- can only imagine how it would sound with F1 cars
The manual shifting is absolute badassery.
We have yet to see his like again.
80% of the time he is driving it with the left hand only.
Incredible it took so long for them to put paddles in for the shifts.
That was his own choice. Everyone had paddles
The most beautiful sound in motor racing.
Nice but not as nice as the V10s, those are symphony!
Contra suspensão ativa, controle de tração e câmbio semi automático
Legend driving a legendary car
Gilles & Ayrton forever ❤
Banging through gears with only one hand one the wheel in a car that fast must have been the greatest experience ever.
Ohhh my god real drivers brain and heart. No iPads on wheels
It's still mostly old analog driving
we get it man, you like living in the past and being angry at innovation
The Williams in front were some of the most technologically sophisticated F1 cars ever produced.
No iPads on wheels? Are you fucking insane? These cars, the 1992 cars, had TC, ABS, automatic shifting, so calm down, yeah, I understand that you hate technology
Comments like these reek of mouth breathing stupidity.
He drove with core strength.manual gear transmission! No driver aids !
He kept up with that Williams ...who else could have done that ? Only one Senna!
Written below by A. Santos, below:
"Senna was the last champion in history with a car with a mechanical manual transmission in 1991, without revs control or electronic accelerator that synchronized and managed the delivery of power and changes via software, with everything starting to be integrated together with the transmission and engine via electro-hydraulic system.
As if Stewart, Lauda and Prost did not exist.
To put into context, the 1992 Mclaren compare to Williams lap time is like comparing 2019 Williams to 2020 Mercedes. For Senna to keep up with a Williams for a full lap, that’s utterly astonishing.
That's an extreme exaggeration. It's like the 2020 RedBull and the 2020 Mercedes pretty much.
@@silentnight1805 There's no limits for exaggeration in the minds of Senna's fanboys, the myth kept growing bigger for decades after 1994.
@@livingbeing1113 we are talking about this video, this car.. in 1992.. not 1993.
