  • The video is just as the title states. Scenes from the Hobbit trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy were used. Enjoy the compilation.
*probably missed a couple but it’s probably because I got distracted in the video making process by the sheer majesticness of these films :)

missed his aw or fear spell at bag end in both first (both first Hobbit and LOTR) movies, someone mentioned the door as well as escape from Isengard, trying to make the mountain sleep before morria ie stop storm Saruman sends. Telepathy with Saruman and Galadriel. others have pointed more but these I did see mentioned so I brought them up. Anyone else? Nice video though.

The description only excuses missing out on magic scenes, not including scenes without magic.
The dark speech is no more magic than elvish.
(Both of which can be used to cast spells, but the Ring Poem does not.)
Also, Gandalf did not defend himself from Saruman, he only attacked him.

Fun. You hinted at the scene where Gandalf the White first encounters Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn, but forgot a key scene: where Gandalf wrests old Theoden from Saruman’s “possession”-spell at Rohan and one little scene-where the fireworks magically explode, by Gandalf’s will, from the back of the wagon to the delight of the Hobbit children as Gandalf enters Hobbiton. Otherwise a pretty comprehensive collection! Maybe his “healings” of Thorin and of Pippin (after Pip’s Palantir encounter) could be included, but those powers seemed more spiritual than thaumaturgical. Good job, though.

Narya’s primary powers are to inspire others to resist tyranny, domination and despair. So when you see Gandalf riding through Minas Tirith and people are fleeing the walls and as he rides by they take heart and turn around, that is him using Narya. It is often unclear when he is using it as there is no indication he is using it, but he uses it pretty often in the movies.

Why does Gandalf get driven into a corner by orcs and wargs in one scene and decimates goblins and battles balrogs in another scene? Fans always talk about how strong Gandalf is but it seems extremely situational, like he can't always tap into his full Maiar abilities

    • @pinco_pallo
      @pinco_pallo Год назад +2

A wizard is never too weak, nor too powerful. He acts precisely when he means to. 🗿
Gandalf knew that Sauron could hide in Dol Guldur and chose to be very cautious.
As far as I know, Sauron is a more powerful maiar than Gandalf.
Maiars can also teleport, but Gandalf usually prefers riding a horse. Sounds weird, right?
Wizards are powerful but they should be, first of all, wise.
And Gandalf, unlike Saruman or Sauron, knows it really well, which is one of the reasons why I like his character so much.
He's never abused his power, making use of it only when strictly necessary, especially for saving others from moral or physical dangers and keeping it at a basic level.
That's why he didn't use the ring, teleport it to Mordor or fight Smaug, for example.
This is a great tip for us all irl: even if we were very powerful we should never start something that we couldn't know how to end.
      Balance is everything :)

Gandalf, Saruman, and Radagast (and the 2 you never hear about) are Istari (wizards), and are of the same angelic being class as Sauron and the Balrog.. All are Maiar. When the Valar sent the Istari to Middle Earth to help the peoples there resist Sauron, they were indeed forbidden to use their full power, as that would simply provoke Sauron to move more quickly and be more violent. In fact, the background infomration given in the other works indicates that Sauron (originally Mairon) and Saruman (True name Curumo) were both Maiar apprentices to Aule, the Valar Smith who created the dwarves. Gandalf (Westron name)/Mithrandir (Sindarin name), Olorin (Quenya name) Was reluctant to go to M-E ,because he feared Sauron.

You forgot a few of my favorites, first is the lighting on weathertop. Before Strider, Mary, Pipin, Sam and Frodo spend the night at weathertop (the place frodo gets stab by the wraith king), you see a thunder battle the night before. In the books it's revealed that it was gandolf fighting all 9 of the nazgul and draws 4 of them to chase him saving Frodo without realizing. The second is the horses in the river that attacks the nazgul. In the books it's Elrod that summons the wave (for he controls all rivers in riverdell), but Gandalf enhances the power and adds horses to it. Gandalf did this to show which side the spell was on.

I don’t know about that. Gandalf is a Maia, and Smaug is a dragon. The Maiar were created to help build the world with Eru Illuvatar and the Valar, Gandalf is like an angel. Compared to a dragon, which is an incredibly powerful being created by Morgoth, a corrupted Valar. I would say Smaug or a dragon is more powerful than Gandalf or the Balrog, since Balrog are corrupted Maia, which are the same as Gandalf.

Gandalf has five staffs in the span of these films
Staff 1 ... His original staff, it was later destroyed by Sauron in the Hobbit Battle of Five Armies
Staff 2 .. after he lost his original staff, Radagast gave his staff to Gandalf. Gandalf later removed the blue stone on its top and returned it to Radagast. This second staff is used by Gandalf in the remaining of Hobbit Battle of Five Armies and the same staff we saw on the first half of LOTR. It was later confiscated by Saruman after he defeat Gandalf at Orthanc Tower
Staff 3 .. Lord Elrond gave gandalf a new staff after he escaped Orthanc Tower. This staff was used by Gandalf until Moria where he lost it during his fight with the Balrog
Staff 4... After resurrection and become Gandalf the White, Galadriel gave him a new white staff. This staff was destroyed during Gandalf s encounter with the Witch King of Angmar
Staff 5 ... On the last scenes of LOTR when Gandalf is about to ride the ship to Grey Havens, he is seen using a new staff. Perhaps given again by Galadriel.

Also you might not think of it as much of a power but he can raise his voice enough to stop people in their tracks, one last thing I'd like to give a shout out to radagast the brown his staff stone can drain the poison of black magic witchcraft and brang little Sebastian back to life :)
