- Hello fellow mayors !! Welcome to my first tutorial for Simcity 2013, in this video i will share some thoughts on road layout and city design that can improve traffic flow throughout your city. Whether your building a buzzing metropolis or a small town some of these tips might just help keep things moving. The last thing you want in your city is traffic jamming up your roads.

You can also put your some of your commercial buildings inside the residential areas so that some of your sims can get to a job easily. Since the area is very near them, they'll just walk, thus reducing cars in your streets and avenues. It will also boost Residential happiness and you will prevent commercial areas from complaining that they don't have any workers.
this is the best guide i ever watch. thank you!
wait what? lu main simcity juga bang?
Look what I found here

I feel so dumb for never considering rounded corners. So helpful!!
Great tips mate! Clearing those avenues and using them as through fares instead of zoning has been game changing for me. Eliminating four ways and rounding corners off keeps everything flowing in the zones. I've integrated some roundabouts with success as well. Thanks MrMech
Not sure how often u still play this game but just a tip, you can specify a zone to fill by placing down a single zone where you want it to start, and a single zone where you want it to end, then hold control between those two points and it will only fill the area in between
OMG, I made all mistakes you mentioned. Your tutorial enlightened me a lot! Thank you so much.
actuali his tutorial suck ass in late game dont use it
***** well in his defense, almost nothing works in late game, unless you have the cities of tomorrow expansion with maglevs and skybridges. Maxis needs to release a goddamned roads pack and make it fucking free. Overpasses/underpasses, exits/entrances instead of intersections, and 1 way roads/avenues should have been a given in the fucking game.
Over- and underpasses are already in the game
Koen Looijmans How do you make them?
degen83 N and M key
Excellent tutorial mate! Are you a teacher? You explained this perfectly. Thank you very much for this. I've always had traffic issues with most of my big cities. Thanks again mate.
It's a really good (basic) guide especially the rounded corners are a great improvement. Thanks for the tips I'll use them on my next city.
Thanks, that pretty much solved all my traffic problems.
why does he sounds like the pilot talking in the plane
Classy but useful all im gonna try and think of for this comment
Lmbo😂😂😂😂
+elon kapel shut up and fasten you're seatbelt
Whiner alert
Lmao so true
Wow, thanks! The arc angles I would not have thought of!
Very well done and straight forward! GREAT JOB!
Very nice video, I'll certainly keep all that in mind for my next city ^^
Great tutorial, i didnt know about this at all it changes the whole traffic problem :D
I would really like to see a more complex version of this that maximizes space. While this is good for one area I struggle to visualize how to utilize the outer ring.
Jesus christ that intersection/boulevard tip, I couldn't grow over 250k civies before but I think I might make it tonight!! Thanks so much bro! +sub
MrMechraven useful guide for beginners, however, I've been playing this game for a time now, and in the rectangle you made, you zoned RCI on the roads that lead to the high way, I am not saying you can't do that, completely up to you ofcourse, but it's better to keep that line open an NOT zone on it, it will keep the flow for people going in and out of town better because it's not clogging up at the section where the normal streets meet the high way, also, Those bui;dings on the cornors will still reach max density without being zoned on the highway intersections
thanks a lot for this vid, i see all the probs i had in the game solved by you
Thanks, i will be trying to do more tutorials as an when i can. The above road layout is good to some degree but after more testing even i found the traffic overflowing. You can add Mass transit to see if it helps a little, but i will try to do some more tips as soon as i can. Mech
This was a really useful video, and well presented .. thanks mate! Now I can go back to SC without the need for alcohol nearby for those stressful moments when I have to rebuild everywhere due to gridlock (grrrrrr). Keep up the good work!
I do the quadrant road layout, a variation of it anyways.
What I do is I first draw a square around the circumference of the city area with a high density avenue with rails.
Then I find the center of the area and draw a smaller square around it with high density avenues while following the guide lines.
Next I put more high density avenues going from the corners of the inner square to the outer one in both directions.
Finally, using high density streets, I make a grid in the empty quadrant spaces for where most of the city will be.
The center square is for city hall and specialized buildings (raw materials HQ buildings and tourist attractions), emergency services, or even schools if I decide to “specialize” in education (not that it’s a specialization). The quadrants are for the rest of the city. One quadrant is for industry, and the other three are for low, medium, and high wealth residents and commercial.
Sounded logical. I did it and started getting some traffic problems at 30k now at 70k the first inner rectangle is at grid lock and I have massive queues on the interstate. I'd love to see a follow up of this actually working then I'd know what I had done wrong!
very interesting concept mate, I will give this a go.
Really enjoyed this! Thanks!
I would have liked to have seen the neighborhoods grow while you were wrapping it up. But still, it was good to learn this.
What is your opinion to the idea of splitting the highway leading into the cities to wrap all the way around the border of the city and then right down the middle to help ease traffic?
I should have looked for this video earlier you are a life saver
Thanks, it's so helpful for me.
Holy bajesus the noises in the first part of the vid where his laptop was notifying him scared the living day lights out of me #miniheartattack
Please do more of this this is awesome and useful
This really helped, thanks a lot dude.
Brilliant, thanks for the advice.
really helpful guide, thanks!
This really helped me out.
thanks
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing...
great video, thank you for this.
you should send your connecting road from the corners of the inner road to the out avenue like a swastika. This is truely the way to maximize otherwise you are left with nothing in the corners of the inner layout, unless you add park in the corners connect from the avenues, overall good guide.
subbed, brilliant tutorial, thanks!
nice tutorial, helped me a lot ^^
Very informative, subbed.
Is it possible for you to do this on a full scale using the whole map with districts? I found the tip about the corners verry usefull but i still struggle with it using the whole map. But thank you.
This is fine on the small scale, this being used on the full map is actualy pretty hard to achieve. Or atleast i`m having a hard time doing it. The best i`ve did so far with no traffic problem is about 400-420k population. After that it becomes a NIGHTMARE.. I`d love to see this on a full scale of the map.
Good Job!
not one traffic problem, thanks!
Does placing those park inside the avenues still allow maximum density zoning? You had it mapped out perfectly but then you just popped some parks in the space...
Thx bro. Nice tips
Yes on a small scale or even med/large scale it can work well, however at populations above a certain size almost any city will start to struggle. After many attempts with this system i find it is limited to certain types of population and specialization, which is fine if that is your thing :)
If i should find a more successful way to manage 400+ pop i will be sure to post it my friend. Thanks :D
Ahh.. Very interesting approach. I will try zoning like that and see what happens. Also learnt about `ctrl` zoning.. yay. How did you get it to show that green marker that shows the largest density size for building?
thank you so much ! i was frustrated before watching your video
can you have a working example?
This was so useful!!!
GREAT INFO SIR~! THANKS!!
This helped a lot!
great tutorial thanks alot
should i use a different rectangle for residential, commercial and industrial? or can i just make a huge rectangle the size of the map?
This seems very complicated as a solution to traffic jams. Having through streets without zoning is a good point though.
thanks
will take note
Now if only that circle junction wasn't already like 10% of the map so you could actually still build a city after you fix infrastructure and services... God these maps suck.
Well as the guy said in the video, that was just an example
You can make it any size and it actually work pretty well
But if you really wanna control traffic i recommend you using the highway, roundabounds and one way roads mod
great video
how do I collect the little lanterns I need 3 and I can't figure out to collect them
very nice tutorial ty
Nice tutorial!
great tutorial, cheers
i know its kind late to ask but where did you get it?
this is a really good tutorial, I think I will use something similar, but maybe use circles????? not sure =)
link an working example of this layout if you are using it, as you said you use this!!>?
Well done!
I’ve used the tree row many times. But you can grid your map, and every 3 blocks almost 3 a half, is the same
Thank you so much!
dont you think avenue junctions look so wierd?
I'm laying out my network pretty similar to yours; but when I include commercial zones and let everything grow to mid/high density (almost) all of the sims suddenly take their car everywhere. Usually they use their feet when all work/shopping is inside of walking range. Messed around with layouts for days without any solution yet... it's a pain in the rear!
You should be a teacher...loved listening to you explain everything :-P
Very Helpful
Thanks For Sharing ~~
Region is Titan Gorge i think. The city is Palomino
Only issue I have with this video (Everything was great BTW) was that you didn't note the actual distance (20x20), since it was all roughed on the avenues you used to get this output from the Sims. Other than that, great video.
Nice tutorial. What is the next step? I mean how do you continue expanding with additional neighboirhoods? I.start out with your system but after I hit 150k the traffic problem starts (i have public transports) Can you do a second video on expanding the city?
Thank you!
that explains a lot why my city is 24/7 rush hr mass traffic ^_- lol
which region and city is this one? please tell me!
Thanks a lot.
thanks so much
Good video :)
my city looks nice but compared to this traffic solution, mine is a complete clusterfuq. Btw, is that map square a small one or is it the same as all the others? it looks like a rather small map
thanks!
he should use airplane sfx and start off the video with an announcement about fastening seatbelts and safety etc.
keep the metal in the intro too lol
I wish Sips would watch this video
thanks
nice chootorial
Works well until 50k pop... then traffic starts to become an issue.
It looks like my base in clash of clans
Whatsup man how are you
Good
The city slot should be bigger
It is a good tutorial, but the system doesn't work properly. It is still causing traffic jam ... and a heavy ones, too!
Riding the inner roads wastes space for max sized buildings.
Ok my city is big and there's traffic then the cars glitch and go through the car lol funny
Becomes impractical after a while however to do this as you severely limit your growth potential.
Doesn't work at 100k population...
***** IKR!! So annoying. If you only have residential in the city. There is very low crime and almost no traffic. But people say they can't get a place to shop nearby.
This doesn't work...
Your game volume should have been turned down for this video.
Cities Skylines is far better than Simcity 2013. The only reason why I'm playing this and not Cities Skylines is just because I cant run Cities Skylines on 32 bit os
My ass that was quick, took 20 min just to make a basic layout...
