He loved his kids, and wife, he loved Jax, and he lost all he loved, and gave his life for his best friend, who he considered a brother. He was real to us fans, and always will be, and that shows just how amazing this show really is. R.I.P. Opie.
Sons of anarchy used this song when they killed off one of the best characters in TV history. Amazing song man! I honestly have problems listening to it without tearing up.
The fact that this song only has 631,000 hits while "What does the Fox say" has over 455 million hits just makes me sad for people in general. Looking forward to Greg's next album!
Wow, thanks for mentioning that song. I have honestly never heard of it. So I just checked it out, and now I want to kill myself. So thanks for that :)
Ain't it funny the way tv can make you like the villain? Opie was a convicted criminal. A gangster, a drug pusher, an adulterer, a woman beater, a murderer, an extortionists and an arsonist.
+Johnnie Ward Opie wasn't a woman beater. Jax more so. Ya know. Between the headbutting of Luisa. and the face smashing of Ima. But Opie wasn't a woman beater. R.I.P Opie
My brother (USMC Sgt.Kenneth D. Reich) and I would watch SOA together. My brother passed away Oct. 30,2012 due to a rare blood cancer. He truly showed that Marine spirit throughout his fight and would not let it control him, although an infection got the best of him in the end. I had this song played at his services for all of his fellow Marine Brothers and Sisters who were unable to make it to his services. Thank you Mr. Holden for this song. It will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart.
this song is so powerful and I can only imagine how this song relates and speaks to so many people. I appreciate sons of anarchy for introducing me to this song, but even more I appreciate greg holden and the song for introducing me to the story and book behind the inspiration for the song. Read the book What Is the What by Dave Eggers, and then replay the song. Understand the true meaning and how this song is meant to be projected.
No matter what brought you here, here is where you are, and what you experience from this fine piece of music is your own. I will not count the days, but I will measure them before I put together a song as simple, as vital, and as perfect as this one. Damn well done.
I recently decided to re-watch Sons of Anarchy in preparation for the series finale. I've always loved SOA's soundtrack. It's led me to many great artists like Noah Gundersen and The White Buffalo. And now you. I've listened to this song about 30 times today. I have to say, this is one of the greatest and most inspirational songs I've ever heard. As a fellow song writer, I must say, it's songs like these why I write. You are truly an inspiration. Please keep up the great work.
hi! it is so a amazing song! the first time that i heard it on radio 3FM, i was going look @ youtube for this amazing song and played the rest of the day without a brake! and today again
No show is written better than SOA... what an episode ... tough to watch. Greg, I've heard this song before and love it; glad you're getting more recognition. RIP Opie
it made me cry...I was listening to the song and thinking - wow he's singing about my boys (my kids from Africa) and then I've read the description and it really IS about my kids! and so I cried and cried because it's so beautiful and so true.
This is a terrific song, with so many meanings to so many different people in so many different situations. To me, that's the mark of a truly great song. Thank you Mr. Holden
Why is it that this truly talented musician has less than a million views and the fake boy bands with bad hair and worse pants have billions of views? COMPLETELY underrated and I am sad that I only know of him because of SOA. This song is amazing.
I have lost somebody really close to me, who always understood me, and was always there for me in my time of need. He sung this at my school production, so this is to him. He had an amazing voice. Thanks for everything, you'll be sorely missed, I'll never forget you x
One of the best songs ever. Even though i can admit that alot of feelings stand behind that statement perhaps because its use in Sons of Anarchy there still is no argument about the brilliance of this song. You have my thanks for its existence
This brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. Between the beautiful way the song is carried out and the lyrics themselves, there is no way to make this any more perfect..
Serious request 2011 Leiden! I was there when you soundchecked, after that I had to leave but it was perfect how you were almost doing a whole set at the soundcheck! Love you man! Amazing song
I was there @SR'11 @Leiden, when you and Eric Corton performed the song. I was just standing there at the mailbox, could't move. I moved again after the song ended. I found it very beautiful, but didn't 'feel' the lyrics. Every time I heard the song afterwards it remembered me what fun time I had then. Now I've been to Bosnia and I've heard stories of a woman whom has lived in the war. These stories really got to me. Now I hear her stories in this song and it moves me. Thank you for that! :'-) x
The best as the action was handled by the guys ,Jax played flawless , I am sure that Tig is regretting every moment for being in this situation plus the ceremony made the ending more painfully for us.
The amount of FEELING in your voice is just so, so incredible. You are my all-time favorite singer, Mr. Holden, and have been ever since I first heard this song. :)
I can't even tell how many times I've cried while listening to this song. I can't hold my tears when I listen to this song. I'm struggling now and try to find a reason to live. But still, it's so damn hard. This song it's a boost somehow for me! Thank you!

Sat and cry, remembering bothers and sisters I have hung with over the years no longer with us. Now OP is riding thunder road with them. He was my favorite on the show, and he will be missed. RIP OP
Sons of Anarchy is a phenomenal show. One of the things that makes that show so great and powerful is the fact that the music that they pick is always spot on. The music is great by itself, but connected to the powerfulness of the scene they combine them with, it touches you in ways not possible without that combination. Sons hit it out of the park on this one. Try listening to this in the future without thinking of Opie or Jax. It's impossible. Holden is a great songwriter...
Opie was the saddest death in television history... hurt me like a real life family member died.
