Great job in actually describing and then showing some of the capabilities of outdoor power wheelchairs.

I am wheelchair bound, and when I am shopping, i always have to get help to get items from high shelves. With a bounder power chair, i could handle that on my own. And I need a chair to be able to handle grass, which the Bounder looks like the perfect chair!

The sad thing is, on average people in wheelchairs make much less than people who aren't disabled and many of us are stuck on Medicaid, which will only pay for the bare minimum of anything. Medicaid doesn't even care if you are rendered completely housebound, all they care about is whether or not you can sort of kind of use your chair in your house. That's it. A lot of us don't have access to chairs that would fit our lifestyle. Even middle class disabled people would struggle immensely to even afford anything close. Granted, it's not entirely on the manufacturers , most of it probably isn't. Most of it is just that disabled people, on average have to deal with more workplace discrimination, more poverty ( because try living on SSI) or being stuck in a situation where you can't really find full-time work or can't work full time.
I think we oughta get a little bit less angry at the wheelchair manufacturers for the equipment being expensive and much more angry and outspoken toward those who discriminate against disabled people , and the government for continuing to hurt real disabled people it says people are faking or whatever she says people are faking or whatever their it's use is for taking whatever services or cutting whatever budget or making our lives harder in general

I wish you would add to your comment how us disabled are stuck , trap all winter, I mean who use narrow tires(you can use your arms you don’t get a chair here)in snow, how wide they think a snow shoe is or snow tire so for 5 months your done.

I purchased a Bounder Plus, H frame, off road package. It does not work! It hasn't worked since I got it. Company and their local rep. has been unwilling to do anything about it. I bought it after doing much research. I thought this was a good chair. I pray it will even turn on each time I want to use it. Regularly, it doesn't turn on. Has done this since I got it. It does not go as fast as they represent. My anti-tippers always dig into the ground.

I tried it but I found it hard to control on wet surfaces. It's like driving a rear wheel drive car, and once the front goes off course, you're screwed as the rear wheels push you around. I chose the TDX because the drive wheel is in the middle. Also the TDX can turn around on the spot with one wheel going forward and the other in reverse. Great for getting in an Elevator and just spinning around on the spot. But the Bounder you have to drive it like a car and swing your front end around, hoping not to run over anyones toes.
If they made the TDX with the Bounder Plus's Motors,
That would be a REALLY Hot Seller!!!

The problem with chairs like the TDX, or Q6 Edge, or QM-710, are the small casters in the front and rear. They don't do well off-road. I agree that rear wheel, front wheel, and mid-wheel drive chairs all handle differently. You should definitely get the wheelchair that best suits your lifestyle and needs.

I have this chair. There are only a few good things about it, they rest are negative. Wish I got the X8 Extreme instead !!!

    • @caroll9140

+Carol L I got the chair with the wrong tires put on due to the vendor NOT knowing about them. He admitted he just picked them from a picture in the catalog. When they blew at the same time, after just 3 months, the owner above, refused to give me the proper tires and told me I had to PAY $375 for the new ones. I then found the NY State Wheelchair Law on the Internet, and after bringing this to his attention, he emailed and said he'd give them to me "THIS 1 TIME ONLY as a courtesy." Wow, what a sport. Hence, I wish I got the X8 Extreme, oh and from ANOTHER VENDOR.

You wouldn't be able to drive an X8 indoors. I also doubt the parts on the X8 are less expensive than any other wheelchair. They're ALL expensive. For example: the small 6" casters on many of the popular chairs can cost as much as automobile tires, $60-$100 for one 6" caster with bearings.

@@caroll9140 - Not true. The VA provides them, along with the X8 that you wanted (which isn't covered by any standard insurance that I know of), and private insurances will cover at least some of the costs.

21st Century is a small company. I doubt they're making millions. But by your logic, because some people can't afford them, they shouldn't make them. Makes sense. NOT.

You should check on Craigslist for a power chair, there are some that come up very cheap. And some that basically need new motors, or even batteries.
