- This is how to remove a door knob / lock / handle with no visible screws and a stuck latch spindle. You will need to know this in order to remove this door lock. The first is to gain access to the screws which are hidden under the cover plates of the door handle. The second is to remove the latch spindle by removing the o ring which is preventing the spindle shaft from being removed. This will drive people crazy if they dont know....

I was going crazy trying to work out how to remove the spindle - thank you for having the exact video I needed.

❤ I should’ve checked this video before I spent one hour to fiddle around with the spindle. Thank you so much 😊
We were going crazy trying to work out what to do with a similar door lock we have. Watched endless videos without any luck and then we found this one. THANK YOU!
👍👍👍
Great video. Thanks for doing this. I have 5 of these locks, 3 stopped working after 3 months of use. I need to do a DIY and replace.
Holy crap you saved me! I was wondering what was wrong with my latch compared to all the other tutorials!
Oh my god. Thank you so much!!!! This absolutely drove me nuts when I tried to remove the spindle. That darn o ring!!!!!Happy to say that as soon as I saw your video, I was able to replace the door handle that’s been out of action for months. Cheers
You’re welcome 👍
Absolute Legend! been struggling with this for over 3 months
You’re welcome 👍
Thanks Bill, It was driving me crazy
The issue is the spindles has gone in and the door is shut. Door won’t open now and has no handle, just the spindles stuck in it
The same has happened to mine. It closed so I can’t get to the other side to loosen the second screw. How did you manage to fix it?
How did you fix it? I have same issue my door is locked
Me too same issue
Legend! Thanks so much, I just cut it off took 2 seconds. Mine was a Gainsborough brand handle if anyones trying to figure it out like me.
Thanks this saved me a massive amount of time!
Thanks Bill!Mate, I've come across a few of these over the years every now and then & they've had me stumped how to get out to make the painting easier. Now I know so, thank you!

Thanks champ, that damn o-ring had me!
After this video helped me realise there were covers in the way, I then found out that the allen key screw that was holding the cover on was stripped and preventing me from getting one cover off, but I did manage to fix several loose handles now though. Thanks heaps.
Bill to the rescue once again... 👏
Great video Bill. Cheers mate.

You’re welcome 👍
One word...... LEGEND
Thanks brother, something as simple and small as that lead me to your video 😂
Thanks for the help! Unfortunately, the spindle still wouldn't come loose after removing the washer. I had to use some locking pliers to yank it out. Hopefully this helps someone else.
Really helpful! Really stupid O RING! Thank you!!!!
Thanks nice tip
I’m stuck at removing the cover 😫It’s not as easy as just turning left. Haven’t gotten to the ring part yet. It’s exactly the same brand I have here. Thanks for the vid
You the MAN !!!!!
Thank you
Years of confusion solved in 5 minutes. Well done, sir.
Not just years of confusion, during which time the top screw pulled further out from the door, but a considerable amount of time wasted, all fixed now, deceptively simple, thank you 🙏🏽
You saved my sanity!
Thank-you! Sanity intact
you have saved me couple of hundred dollars. thank you very much.
You’re welcome 👍
thanks Bill.....solved thanks to you
👍
Thanks sir
Thanks bro
Coooooool thank you
Thank you so much, got up to being able to remove the spindle, who would have thought that stupid rubber seal was the answer!
You’re welcome 👍
Great video! I was about to break out a saw
Your channel is such a nice change from all those commercial "faux DIY" channels with guys in branded polo shirts trying to sell you some whacky product.
Lol 👍
Thankyou, i was about to rip the door off it hinges but you saved me. What is with the rubber washer, dumb. Love hearing a aussie voice on a RUclips help channel .
Thanks heap’s
Thanks for your video.
Could you pls share the video where the spindle has a hole on one end. And use of allen key to remove
Thanks - worked a treat. I understand its purpose is to keep the spindle central, but Wouldn’t it be fine without the o-ring there? I can’t imagine the spindle slipping out of one of the handles.
Nice!
👍
Awesome! I had the door handles loose and rattling which this video helped me a lot. But why would I need to remove the spindle - to solve what problem? I just left it there and tightened the screws and the rattling is gone!
Legend
Cheers that did my head in until I saw this.
Thanks so much 😅 you just saved a marriage!!
Hi Bill, thanks for the videos! Ive got the same gainsborough locks in our internal doors. The kids have been playing around with the locks and the push button screw has fallen out. Screwing it back in doesnt seem to lock the door - any ideas??
The other models just has a tiny button at the top of the spindle that you push down and slide through and the spindle comes out
Oh my god thank you.
Nice one Bill, thanks for the great video.
👍
legend
You are no1.. Cheers mate
👍
Ive just come across your channel. You explain things very well so I have great confidence that youll be able to help me with this problem. Ive been in the construction game for a while now. Im not at all a lock smith, but Ive had to wrestle with a few locks in my time. Ive recently come across an entrance lock that does not move. The door was closed and we couldnt open it. Ive taken the whole thing apart, both sides, up to exposing the latch. It has a type of metal sheet surrounding it. So, basically, you can see the latch going through and this vertical sheet is totally surrounding it and takes up the whole...um...hole, so the latch cant be wriggled free. Im hoping theres a way of taking it out without damaging the door. Have you come across this type of locking mechanism often?
If you send me a photo I may be able to help. If you just need to open the door and latch is faulty I have a video on using door shims to open the door. Hope this helps👍
What's the bore whole of this lock I seem to have a Gainsborough with a bore hole that's small than 50mm
Thanks for this, finally managed to get mine off. The innards of mine were much simpler than this (no o-ring, thank god) but the outside cover was really tight and felt like it'd been glued in place. It also opened only from the outside when most articles talk about taking it off from the inside first, go figure.
Thanks bill but mine is a Gainsborough almost the same as the one you show BUT mine has no ‘O’ ring or circling or screw. I still can’t get B xxxxxx d out. Any tips ???
TIA
Awesome video but my issue is that im locked out so i can only access the outside of the door handle. Not sure how to get it open from here but if anyone has any tips please feel free to share.
great video but did not have the patients or dexterity to remove it so i broke it but wanted to change it anyway
Mate thank youso much, that rubber oring, was a prick, thank you so much...legend

@@billshowto I was cursing, close to snapping it.. thanks again
