We were going crazy trying to work out what to do with a similar door lock we have. Watched endless videos without any luck and then we found this one. THANK YOU!
This was most helpful, thank you! For the little O ring, I used a tapestry needle with a bent tip, which are blunt (Clover Chibi Tapestry Needle Set - Bent Tip). Easily hooked under and removed the O ring.
Thank you so much - I was going crazy and watched so many videos and read so many articles - all of which were unhelpful .... and then I found yours and you saved the day - cheers!
Another Aussie posting an unbelievable video that I didn't think would exist. Great stuff! You gotta laugh at how many people would have been really pissed getting that bit off. I did a quick search and bang. Onya mate
Oh my god. Thank you so much!!!! This absolutely drove me nuts when I tried to remove the spindle. That darn o ring!!!!!Happy to say that as soon as I saw your video, I was able to replace the door handle that’s been out of action for months. Cheers
After this video helped me realise there were covers in the way, I then found out that the allen key screw that was holding the cover on was stripped and preventing me from getting one cover off, but I did manage to fix several loose handles now though. Thanks heaps.
Thanks 🙏🙏 mate it's help me I was stuck same step and waste one hour to remove whole lock unit and your video save me and I am so glad that I have fix new lock ,thanks again for your video
Thanks Bill!Mate, I've come across a few of these over the years every now and then & they've had me stumped how to get out to make the painting easier. Now I know so, thank you! Loving the vids and tips, keep them coming champ!
Not just years of confusion, during which time the top screw pulled further out from the door, but a considerable amount of time wasted, all fixed now, deceptively simple, thank you 🙏🏽
I’m stuck at removing the cover 😫It’s not as easy as just turning left. Haven’t gotten to the ring part yet. It’s exactly the same brand I have here. Thanks for the vid
Your channel is such a nice change from all those commercial "faux DIY" channels with guys in branded polo shirts trying to sell you some whacky product.
This video is great. The lock itself is one of the worst locks. The pin gets stuck very often. I am planning to get rid of gainsborough privacy locks and buy new button ones without the stupid pin design
Thanks for the help! Unfortunately, the spindle still wouldn't come loose after removing the washer. I had to use some locking pliers to yank it out. Hopefully this helps someone else.
Thankyou, i was about to rip the door off it hinges but you saved me. What is with the rubber washer, dumb. Love hearing a aussie voice on a RUclips help channel .
Brilliant Bill! I couldn’t quite work out how to get that plate off. Now it is a piece of cake to tighten the screws again. Thanks for all your great videos. You’re a legend! Cheers Kev
lol replacing this handle on 2 doors. Got impatient with the first door and disassembled the latch whilst it was in the door to get the spindle out. Thanks to u next one wont be butchered out of the door.
Hi Bill, thanks for the videos! Ive got the same gainsborough locks in our internal doors. The kids have been playing around with the locks and the push button screw has fallen out. Screwing it back in doesnt seem to lock the door - any ideas??
Hey Bill thanks for nice video. I have a different problem with my bathroom lock. When I push the pin, door isn’t still getting locked. Inadvertent entry in the bathroom is still possible when someone is inside thinking that door is locked. Kindly guide me.
Awesome! I had the door handles loose and rattling which this video helped me a lot. But why would I need to remove the spindle - to solve what problem? I just left it there and tightened the screws and the rattling is gone!
Thankyou very much bill amazing and straightforward video quick question i broke one of the rubber seals trying to take it off does it have to go back in when i put the handle back on cheers.
Thanks bill but mine is a Gainsborough almost the same as the one you show BUT mine has no ‘O’ ring or circling or screw. I still can’t get B xxxxxx d out. Any tips ??? TIA
Hey mate cheers for the video. If door is stuck closed and handle doesnt latch how do you resolve this considering this type of door handle has 2 screws 1 from each side and taking the one put on the the outside wont take the handle off give. The screw and the lock screw on the other side
Hi, are you saying that the door is latched closed and you only have access to one side of the door to remove the handle? If so, the easiest way would be to use a shim to bypass the latch which will open the door. I have a few videos on this also👍
Absolute Legend! been struggling with this for over 3 months
You’re welcome 👍
Thank you so much. This is the exact lock we have and could NOT figure out how to get the bl00dy thing off
We were going crazy trying to work out what to do with a similar door lock we have. Watched endless videos without any luck and then we found this one. THANK YOU!

I’m so glad I found this video. I tore one of these a part to get it off but had 6 to go - thought there had to be an easier way. You’re a legend!
This was most helpful, thank you! For the little O ring, I used a tapestry needle with a bent tip, which are blunt (Clover Chibi Tapestry Needle Set - Bent Tip). Easily hooked under and removed the O ring.
Spent 1/2 an hour cursing this spindle and just about to use the hammer, until I viewed your clip. A huge thanks to

Legend! Thanks so much, I just cut it off took 2 seconds. Mine was a Gainsborough brand handle if anyones trying to figure it out like me.
Another Aussie posting an unbelievable video that I didn't think would exist. Great stuff! You gotta laugh at how many people would have been really pissed getting that bit off. I did a quick search and bang. Onya mate

Great video. Thanks for doing this. I have 5 of these locks, 3 stopped working after 3 months of use. I need to do a DIY and replace.
After this video helped me realise there were covers in the way, I then found out that the allen key screw that was holding the cover on was stripped and preventing me from getting one cover off, but I did manage to fix several loose handles now though. Thanks heaps.

You’re very welcome 👍👍👍
The issue is the spindles has gone in and the door is shut. Door won’t open now and has no handle, just the spindles stuck in it
The same has happened to mine. It closed so I can’t get to the other side to loosen the second screw. How did you manage to fix it?
How did you fix it? I have same issue my door is locked
Me too same issue
Sooooo. Anyone figure it out?
@@Jprone use some hard paper. Like cards.
Push it in horizontally towards the lock. It should release.
thanks Bill.....solved thanks to you

Great video, Bill. Thanks 👍

Hi, no I dosnt have to go back on 👍
@@billshowto Thankyou so much again bill God bless
What's the bore whole of this lock I seem to have a Gainsborough with a bore hole that's small than 50mm
The other models just has a tiny button at the top of the spindle that you push down and slide through and the spindle comes out
You the MAN !!!!!
Thank-you! Sanity intact
Thanks bill but mine is a Gainsborough almost the same as the one you show BUT mine has no ‘O’ ring or circling or screw. I still can’t get B xxxxxx d out. Any tips ???
