this scene honestly feels so real. her freezing up, his joking manner turning into absolute shock. the backing away from out of the frame. the friend intervening. the awkward pauses and attempts to face her. i love it so much.
HAHAHAHA I LAUGHED SO hard, but seriously there was a guy at the movie theater who laughed SOOO HARD his laugh was soo funny that everyone was laughing even more. 😂😂😂
Gosh, same experience, it was such a fun night! Everyone was having fun but when it got serious everyone was so quiet. Such a magical movie to see in theaters
I like how Ruka is compassionate and down-to-earth, and the film doesn't make a big deal about it. Her and Suzu get along so well once Suzu realizes what Ruka is really like.
The entire time in the theater, my girlfriend and I were like "He's got that himbo energy" and then for this scene we went "Ruka likes that big himbo energy!" It was great.
Among the many things I loved about this movie, I really liked how they made us think at first that Ruka would be that stereotypical popular girl, but in the end she was actually a genuine nice and friendly girl. And to top it all off, she had a crush on the goofy guy instead of the popular one.
I mean realistically, the kid everyone likes would be the popular one instead of an asshole. I think Hollywood movies perpetuates the stereotype of popular bullies too much.
So many moving parts in this one scene it’s incredible. Never mind the expert animation cuts of characters walking in and out of frame, never mind the perfectly awkward pacing to emphasize the awkwardness of the characters, never mind Ruka’s brain shutting off and freezing up for a whole minute, never mind Suzu’s adorable nods, advice, and slow withdrawal when she realizes Ruka and Kamishin are fans of her (and that Ruka was the model for Belle), but ON TOP OF ALL THAT, Kamishin recycling his earlier “small crush” gag he used on Suzu only for it to hit a home run on Ruka made this a gut destroyer that had my entire theater in hysterics.
"...Ruka was the model for Belle" Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was Suzu who was the model for Belle? When it showed that Belle had freckles, I thought it implied that the program didn't make a mistake
@@estaault2450 Since Suzu used that group photo, it selected Ruka as the base, but analyzed Suzu's face for the freckles. That's why she got so flustered when Kamishin said Ruka looked like Belle.
@@NeonsDwelling That doesn't make sense, because Suzu's face was the one shown to be highlighted by the algorithm in the character creation scene. Belle's appearance is meant to represent Suzu's inner beauty, the program didn't make a mistake. Additionally, Ruka's avatar is actually shown with a completely different appearance than Suzu's avatar, she's playing her saxophone in the big scene at the end. She's alongside Kamishin's character (Brown dog with a kayak on its back, holding an oar).
People still read that trash? It's continuously making them both confess, but then call it a joke. The creator's too afraid to pull the trigger on that.
Hosada has such a unique approach to framing scenes without moving the camera much. Adds a level of nuance to whatever happens outside the camera. Most impressive example of this is in Boy and the Beast when Kyuta starts getting beat up by human bullies, the camera pans away, you hear Kyuta beating them up, camera pans back, all the bullies are lying beaten down. Wonderful directing
Most memorable scene in the whole movie... Nothing cuter/funnier than mortified teens when their crush is exposed. Who hasn't been there, done that? 😅 Delighted to find this clip... 😊
I thought this scene was grating at first with the generic tropes cranked up to 11, but as it went on, it definitely turned me around. The choreography and animation & stage gags (Kamisomething and Suzu running offscreen multiple times, Ruka standing there patiently in the same position waiting for them to come back, etc.). This was plain adorable and excellent filmography.
This is by far a very awkward yet realistic confession I've ever watched. I know a few people who would react like this lol. Love them sm. Love the movie too! 🤭
I remembered watching this at Anime NYC last year and the entire crowd including me laughed so hard at this scene. So well done! Everything above this movie and the music was amazing! I wished I could relived the experience of watching this movie for the first time again!
64 seconds. That’s how long that poor girl was standing there, hands in front of her face, dying of embarrassment. I don’t why I counted that, but I did.
This scene here is so awkwardly fresh and crisp and I don't know how to describe it. I just love it so much and hard to find this kind of setting in the seasonal series!
This scene is so amazing!!! It’s soooo grounded and not forced. One of the best funniest confessions. And this long shot just amazing on everything going on
No Joke: I literally loudly said "I don't know, I never thought I'd get this far" and it made the audience I was with laugh harder than they already were. 🤣
Hosada usually does a signature panning camera sequence to show progression. What is interesting about this scene is that the camera stays still this time with a static actress who stays inanimate. Instead it is actors moving in and out of frame on a still shot.
I love how Ruka ended up being such a kind and good friend and not a mean popular girl 🥺
Yes we definitely need more nice popular characters. There are plenty of people that are kind and they just draw people to them.
When he kept walking backwards I was like (medic:get to the point donkofff!)

I guess I was a lucky geek in high school, but the popular kids were quite nice to me.
