Mark, you made my day with your great video. At 16.25 minutes you show the brackets that go under the rear axle.
I bought my Mistral disassembled and had no idea where these parts were to go. Now I know.
Fortunately my car has had no body repairs don in the part. I stripped off all the paint with an electric paint stripper, which took me a while and then had it blasted. The only body work I had to deal with was the rust in the door sills and the doors themselves. Great respect for the work you do

Thanks Mark for your reply. I do like the old maseratis too, but being a non professional they are difficult to restore for me. Especially since I bought the car disassembled. I noticed the dent the right hand gasoline tank made in the body. This might imply the tank might be broken as well. The tanks are a tight fit. The left hand tank comes with two small pieces of wood that need to be installed under the tank AFTER the tank has been put in place. If the pieces of wood are put into place prior to installing the tank, it will not fit.
I was appalled to see that quality of the welds in so many places are very poor. I had to redo some of the front suspension welds, because they were cracked. There are two addresses in the UK that I can recommend for parts: Have you heard of Graham Profitt close to Coventry? There is also Turrino wheels close to Peterborough, assuming you will also do the car assembly

      It’s not about the crowd.
It’s about the right crowd !
Hopefully they will find their way. I’m not interested in the usual race to the bottom for popularity and it’s certainly not about ego. I hope that it can inspire people to have a go at stuff or just to have a better understanding of what goes into doing stuff properly.
I’ve already got a full time job fixing these lovely old cars . This channels success won’t be measured in numbers but by how much people get out of it.
Really happy to hear that you enjoy it !

We’ll said Mark, it’s not just a job, this a labor of love for craftsmanship of days gone bye.
Thanks for taking the time to educate us.
Unfortunately like most businesses of this type, I don’t see a bunch of young lads wanting to take over, or maybe I’m wrong?

      Hi Michael
Pleased you enjoyed the film and appreciate why I do this work.
I think it’s probably always been difficult to engage the young in craft based skills. I do think that there is a real interest in building stuff the drift car scene is big. I think it’s from there that the old car interest will grow.
It’s part of why I am doing RUclips so young and old can see how things are done. I hope it will encourage and inspire people to have a go . I was a feckless youth and there’s still something of that daft teenager in me . So I live in hope of a better future where the youth get a chance to make something of themselves.
Put the humanity back into the everyday !
      Well that’s my manifesto !
I’m probably out of date and out of touch but I try to remain optimistic.

Thank you very much, Mark, again for another stunning video. I think, the first thing which needs to be found out, is, where the car has got hit and from which angle; and then of course to detect all the damages. Only this gives the idea in which direction to pull and push. IMHO this is an art on its own and most likely it needs a lot of experience.
Please keep on going... also because those artists are becoming rarer and rarer and there might be a time in the future where newbies can then have a look to at least get an entry to this kind of work.

This is good stuff, I was going to say fascinating but someone else has said that. What is impressive is this pretty much done in real time. I understand how you decided where to apply the force and what the effect would be but how did you decide the location of the rear pins, was that from another car or should they just be at the same height as the ones forward of them? I'd be interested to know. Cheers

I had to make all the chassis tower connections. They mounted on the suspension pick up points so with that in mind they should be level and symmetrical so effectively mirror images of each other. The front of the car has some minor damage, but this has not gone further into the chassis then the bumper receivers. This means that the front suspension crossmember could be used as the first date in point and then work backwards, keeping things level and parallel. I knew there was damage to the corner. I don’t know that on this car it should be symmetrical. Now the chassis itself is not symmetrical, but obviously the suspension pick ups have to be.
On some cars such as the Renault for which she has a shorter wheelbase on the side to the other due to its strange torsion bar rear axle set up it could be they are not symmetrical, but in this case you would need to refer to a factory chassis plan or map this is not available for the mistrial so I had to work it out for myself. By looking at the design of the suspension, you can usually work out. The geometry has nearly all cars cars symmetrical in the suspension design. Apart from some weird race cars for over circuit racing everything should be parallel and symmetrical.
Oh yes, some of the videos are done, almost in real time to form a type of tutorial a bit like the FIAT 600 videos.
I feel this can be useful as it shows the thought process and adjustments to the approach required for the job and how sometimes this changes need to be adapted in real time . A lot of the other videos are made up of video. I’ve done during the week on my phone with a to camera exclamation which we usually do on a Friday afternoon.. pleased to hear you’re enjoying the channel keep watching as we plan to keep making them !

@@marksitaliangarage Thanks for your reply. After writing I thought that the heights would probably be the same for leaf springs. Seeing it in real time is definitely beneficial as one can see how you work through the causes, problems and solutions, it's actually very logical and de mystifies process, it's so absorbing; I'm thinking how "will you fix that?". Looking forward to watching the next in the series. I still have a lot to watch yet! Cheers.
