  • Yumutjin and Warralka Wunungmurra sing the conclusion of a cycle of songs of Macassan traders at Gurrumuru outstation school, 28/09/07. This song is new style, their own version of the traditional song that has been passed down for generations. Burrngupurrngu's son Wambuna Wunungmurra plays a yidaki made by the late Milkay Mununggurr, one that also appears a lot at www.yirrkala.com/yidaki/dhawu.
This video was shot by Mulka Project staff Nuwaniny Burarrwanga and Dindirrk Mununggurr and edited by Randin Graves. This is part of our recording project Rirrakay Yirralka'wuy Yirralka'ngura, songs of the homelands sung at the homelands. We plan to release a CD for every Yolngu clan in the region, recorded at their own homes.

FYI, it should have been close to CD release, but the hard drive we recorded it on (only a few months old) died while I was making a backup! I have the original rough mix given to the artists and the yidaki and one vocal track, but can't do a proper mix as we've lost Warralka's (in the chair) vocal track. Someone's trying to save the data for us. We'll see.
