I think something you’ve missed is that Price didn’t necessarily kill Shepherd because he lied in the court room, he told Shepherd because a couple missions earlier when they were working with shadow, price wanted a positive ID on Makarov, Shepherd dismissed it and basically said that the destruction on scene was proof enough. Therefore, without positively ID’ing Makarov, when Makarov returns and kill soap by the bomb, it’s truly Shepherd’s fault because he wouldn’t let price get a positive ID on Makarov in that scene.

      Personal interpretation:
Throughout this whole campaign Price seems on edge, unsure about the thing he used to believe in. But the moment he shot Shepherd he seemed more resolute than ever… because he’s made up his mind. Soap’s death made Price realize that he can’t play by the rules anymore.

    • @ThirdPlaceEntertainment
      @ThirdPlaceEntertainment 11 месяцев назад +42

I think the reasoning behind him killing Shepherd more so came from the line Makarov says "Don't bury your enemies alive." Price didn't let soap kill Makarov when he had the chance and regretted it because it got soap killed and in turn his decision to make soap back off made him responsible or at least feel responsible for the death. Combine this with the line shepherd said earlier in the campaign when they rescue him that essentially communicated if price doesn't uphold his end of the deal Shepherd will kill him and everyone else. The last time Price got that threat and didn't heed it soap died. He wasn't going to take that chance again. So he killed Shepherd. Poetic Justice from the original modern warfare trilogy... No loose ends.

I think the alternate ending was great man! One other thing that happened which I feel was never addressed, is that Shepard gave intel to Makarov. In the scene where Makarov and Nolan walk out of the room with the "captive" and Nolan asks what if his intel isn't good. That was Shepard, I'm pretty sure, and I think the whole "don't need to confirm a body" in the mission with Graves was Shepard working with Makarov. This gave Shepard a win because as far as the world was concerned Makarov was dead, only TF 141 would have known different by the last mission. I think that's what Capt. Price realized and partly why he killed Shepard, because Shepard most likely gave Makarov Soap and Price for his own life. Unfortunately i don't think the game did a great job of fleshing this point out.

Your restructuring of the campaign and rewriting of certain elements was definitely leagues above what was actually given to us, but there is one more change I would make to this and it would be to the London mission.
I don't think it was the right call to kill off Soap. If I were to change 1 thing, it would be the death scene in 1 of 2 ways:
Option 1: Gaz and Price are the ones who clear the tunnel and find the bomb, and Gaz is the one who gets killed.
Option 2: Soap and Price do still clear the tunnel together, but you play from the perspective of Soap and Price is the one who dies.
Either of those 2 options would have had a much more emotional impact as a whole, because on one hand, Price watching Gaz (who he's essentially mentored to this point, is essentially this trilogies version of the Soap from the original trilogy) die would have been much more emotional to him. On the other hand, with Price being the one to die, it would make the emotional impact for the entire team, as well as the players, much higher as a whole, and it would have been the most unexpected death out of the 4. I thing Gaz dying was what most people expected, with Price being 4th, Soap being 3rd and Ghost being 2nd. What we got was a death that only amounted to poor shock value and kind of discounts Soap's development in the 2nd game from seemingly a rookie looking to prove himself to Ghost's prodigy. It was wasted development in my option and completely ruins Soap's story as a whole.
If Price or Gaz die, it doesn't really ruin their character development or story because we've gotten to see them develop over the course of 2 games, where as Ghost and Soap have only really had 1 game in the spotlight. Soap's death was extremely premature, and the only character we really get to see him develop with is Ghost, so if he got more time to develop his character with the other members of TF141, his death would have meant more than it did. I would have even been fine if we didnt see anyone on the team die until the next game, because then we'd have at least seen Soap's character get developed further. Unfortunately, we didn't get that and we're instead left with a poor excuse for a sacrifice that was done to produce shock value and closed the door for future character development, leaving Soap as a glorified footnote on the overall story of the new MW games as a whole.

    • @speedyazi5029
      @speedyazi5029 10 месяцев назад +11

I agree with Price being the one to die. If Price dies there is infinitely more emotional impact because this is a character we’ve seen grown and respect in all 3 games. Having him die also allows this trilogy to be different from the original. More importantly, it does something with Gaz that the OG does not - Gaz survives and takes up the mantle of being the leader Price mentored him to be.
Price dying would make the satisfaction of pursuing Makarov much higher and more tense. Also, have Price fucking fist fight Makarov like he does with Shepard and have him lose with Soap being critically wounded (like in MW2).
Soap dying is just plain rehash done incredibly poorly.

    Some ideas for thought.
1- When Makarov explodes the airport, there isn't really a connection as to why the players should care. As for a fix? Perhaps have a survivor soldier who is injured, and is dealing with the aftermath of it and the playes play a mission as him. This would replace the hole that "No Russian" has left, and actually show the destruction Makarov is causing first hand and in first person. And it would also shake up the gameplay since you wouldn't be able to just run and gun now since you'd be heavily injured.
Then that would make the soap flipping out a lot more personal, while also still giving Makarov a win since he said ghost was supposed to die, but now someone else took his place instead.
2-Price had no reason to not kill Makarov there, other than plot armor Makarov had because without him the story wouldn't have a villain. Fix? We already know from the campaign itself that Makarov is working with extremists from Moscow. Perhaps price refrains from killing Makarov because of that exact reason, because Makarov isn't the end all be all as he is connected to even a bigger circle! and not just "morals" AND that would explain why Makarov would be cocky on getting captured because he knows they wouldn't kill him considering the valuable information he has.

it only changes it from bad to mid, there is still very limited character development. Soap in this timeline has only gotten half a game, thats why his death felt so bland. We saved Soap from death once in the original just for him to die in our arms without a proper send off while he thought we had a rat among ourselves.

    @D-F-T 11 месяцев назад +4

I know you couldn’t do this but there’s a couple of things I would add:
1.) We know that All Ghllied Up/One Shot One Kill from the OG MW is still canon in the reboot timeline. Perhaps a conversation with Yuri and Makarov like in the OG MW3, Imran gets shot, stumbles to the truck, and the drive away like before. It then cuts to Yuri and Makarov on base in the barracks later that evening. Everyone is sleeping. Yuri wakes up to take a piss where he sees Makarov - the only one still wide awake sitting on his rack. The two then silently speak about what’s wrong with Makarov and he pulls out his uniform stained with Imran’s blood and goes on some anti-west short speech.
2.) A mission right before the London one where we play as an AQ LT working with Makarov on the Piccadilly Circus attacks of 2019. It would essentially be like the OG No Russian with the player doing the massacre and eventually getting shot by Price immediately prior to him meeting and helping Gaz.
3.) Having the Gen Shepherd assassination by Price be the last playable mission. Price gives a call to McMillian like the OG and talks about Soap’s recent death. Mac then contacts Laswell and the three of them workout how Cpt Price infiltrates the Pentagon. It would be a short stealth sequence.

But he can still survive in the next story while Soap, Garrick, Alex, Farah, Nikolai, and Ghost will carry on the mission. Also introducing new characters like Gary "Roach" Sanderson, Joseph Allen, James Ramirez, Derek "Frost" Westbrook and others. Maybe fan edit that Makarov has assembled another Taskforce called 971 to rival against 141. Ninth circle of hell, seven kings and 1 Demon. All of their worst enemies from their pasts coming together for vengeance. Just my opinion otherwise, you did a great job.

Seriously, I could’ve written where a creatively new character of call of duty could’ve taken the bullet against new Makarov and task force 141 are led by captain price and Ramirez and the 2 captains had a fallout against each other because a member of theirs died when Makarov could’ve been dead instead of spared. That drives Ramirez to go underground. It clashes with price who does dark for the worlds stability is more coalition shill than some soldier for humanity. Their ideologies clash and that makes it a low point for task force 142. As they’re split by the end. And the bad guys are more united with a plot twist victory where Makarov actually plotted to destroy central London from the far distance instead. With nova 6 gas bomb. Radiating London.

On some parts i would do this..
On the first mission, i would replace ghost with sgt. ScareCrow to make ghost and soap meet each other in MWII
After the break out of the gulag i would make price say "How many minutes here to the gulag?" Laswell: (idk because the story dont say) minutes. And if its near price would say " Make an satilite tracing and keep an eye" if its far away then its the turn around
No more missiles, no Dena killed and graves dead( because an american needs to se the action) and KONNI would want guns where we try and can stop but it comes more KONNI mens. Farah(us) and Dena give up getting an car and running away..
KONNI group goes into bases with missiles and try to launch but fails with TF141 stopping the launch.
For the passanter, lets put straight no russian, airport and plane groups to show real terrorism.
The norris part is all ready great.
Deep cover! Only info its not good, i would call yuri to join us and he would get out from the base by saying that he needs to see a "person from the family" that is hospitalized and no one can see how that person is..
Frozen tundra, ween soap meets sheperd he goes full mad mode sayin' "SON OV A BITCH" everybody is trying to calm soap down but ghost says "if you aynt letting johnny kill, i'll do the job" and they block ghosts shot, they give a gun and instead of sheperd staying with one gun he gets others.
Trojan Horse, soap and gaz have an long talk to blend in. On soaps death, soap pushes makarov giving price time to get hes pistol. Soap still dies and price is shot in the chest slowing him on stopping makarov to kill soap, price goes to disarm the bomb with gaz, ghost is no where to be seen..
This is an fan made mission were ghost goes on behind makarov killing KONNI group and we can get to makarov shotting more than enouth on makarovs chest. Cutting of to the cutscene where we see soaps body and ghost cries with the original soundtrack of soaps death but extended.
Court scene, Alerandro and Ghost are called against sheperd..
Its perfect this where laswell edit somethings.
We play as price spectating sheperd and killing
Makarov is hospitalized and Nolan takes command.
Where is yuri on half this script? With laswell watching, he is emergency

Because I think the story is more on Price emotional development… The ending where he killed Shepherd will lead his task force 141 to be expendable just like in original MW3 story… from there MW4 we might meet Zakhaev and Gaz or Alex dies and MW5 is Price and Makarov
I feel like Farrah will be fighting Price and Ghost I’m not sure
Anyways MW1 and MW2 is just plots that will lead about Makarov release, MW3 is about taking what Price hold precious that made him go into frenzy like killing Shepherd because that a hole is everywhere… MW4 start of WW3 USA vs Russia, Zakheav might be introduced… MW5 revenge of the captain…

I also like the position of Makarov's "Return". It attaches well into a cliffhanger, and leans more into a worldwide threat that the original MW3 itself formed up.
The twist of the court scene is wonderful. In reverse, it portrays Graves as someone who went rogue to eliminate 141 while Shepard denies everything on his end...
With Shepard dead, and the sketchy nature of Shadow Company, Graves might find himself on the list soon enough and be in the deep looking for a way to clear his own name.

I feel like the last mission and soaps death would have been more impactful if there was some buildup to it and like they think Makarov has bomb but then they find out that its actually a nuke and then before they can defuse it Makarov surprises them by shooting soap twice in the chest but he's still alive barely and then makarov stabs him in the gut and then its plays out like mw2's ending but instead of sheperd its Makarov who's giving price a beatdown and then Soap sacrifices himself to save price who is still conscious at this point while at the same time gravely injuring Makarov who retreats then price trys to revive Soap but its too late and 141 come to get him outta there because they have run out of time and the nuke is about to explode and then it ends with that location being nuked with price and the rest of 141 being the only survivors then in mw7 it starts off with the white house being bombed by makarov and 141 goes there to save the president but they fail and world war 3 begins then the rest of the game is all out war and getting revenge on makarov for soap and the all the lives hes taken

Here is how I’d rewrite the game:
The plane incident happens over a populated Russian city so the death toll is a lot higher, and this causes Russia and the world to blame Urzikstan for this incident, which prompts Russia to launch a full invasion of Urzikstan again after pulling out in 2019. The missiles strike an American base rather than a Russian base, which prompts the US to also get involved in Urzikstan. TF 141 are given direct orders to turn on Farah and the ULF but they refuse and are all disavowed and branded as war criminals by their own governments, including Alex and Laswell who continue to work with Farah and the ULF. Russia and the US simultaneously invade Urzikstan but they aren’t working together and are only working for their own interests. Makarov continues pulling strings behind the scenes to increase tensions between Russia and the US and eventually Russian and American troops start fighting each other in Urzikstan, and this starts a war between Russia and the west. I think Gaz should be killed off in this game instead of Soap.
In Modern Warfare 4 a disavowed TF141 continue to work with the ULF to expose Makarov and to ease tensions between Russia and the west, while at the same time they are hunted by their own governments. I think this would be a great opportunity to bring back familiar characters from the old games such as Roach, Warcroft, Burns, Frost, Sandman, Grinch, Truck, and maybe even David Mason and his team from BO2 who could all be part of a joint U.S. UK task force trying to hunt down 141. Maybe some new characters should be introduced as well, I would love to see some Aussie SASR operators. I think the Russia vs west war should carry over into Modern Warfare 5 which should be the final game in the series. I also think Farah should die at some point in this game or the next game because I just feel like it’s appropriate.
    What do you guys think?

They also should’ve incorporated more of the 141 characters doing shit instead of just two hanging always pairing up. It’s a classic story technique which keeps things from exciting and feel fast paced. For example I think I speak for the people when I say we want to see ghosts and Gaz’s perspectives during the stadium mission. Not just there to do admin shit. Scenes also needs to be more intense and seamless too much cut scenes make it seem it’s not even a video game and you’d become less immersed.

They really need to stop trying to release these games like fast food. If they didn't rush everything the story would be better. It was bad. When Soap was killed. It didn't shock me. It was more of a really? This is how he dies. Way to many plot holes in the story. Story mods rigged with annoying bugs. The snipers on the snow level being bullet sponges were not fun to any capacity. Game is definitely not worth full price.

This story was way way better explained and put together in the right order. Well done on the story that you made your own way cuz it. made me understand it way better that I did when I saw the full walkthrough. The saddest part for me in this campaign was Ghost, as Soap was one of his closest and best friend. They always went on missions together even in MW2 . If another MW comes out in 2024 i wilk never see it the same way again as ill really miss the duo.

The two major things I would change is the plane, I don't think Somara deserved to go out like that. So, that stupid stealth mission to get the phones and the black box won't happen. The other thing is Soap's death; Soap is the most popular character in 141, killing him off like they did was a bad move on their part. A slight change, is Graves lying in Congress. Don't get me wrong; he'll still lie, but it'll be a start to get him back in the good graces of 141. Though Ghost and Gaz gets there in a nick of time before Makarov shoots Soap on the side of his head, he'll still escape. (Unfortunately Nolan doesn't get captured)

Now this is something I would agree! Had it been better formulated, refixed a few things and try to add additional missions to make it longer (like maybe switching perspectives to other characters responding to Konni's attacks), this would have been interesting to the point where the story has stakes and that other RUclipsrs (who only want the game to fail instead of fixing it) lose the narrative just like Konni.
If it only this campaign had more time but regardless, this is a better response to bring criticism and solutions.

Do you think at the end of the game in the credit scene, shepherd was going to write a letter about what he did because the look he had when he was looking out the window, it looked like he was seriously debating something, but at the same time it’s shepherd and he cares about his name, and that’s why he was ok with price killing him, because the world wouldn’t know what he did

There is so much they could have done with this. Their characters both look and sound great. The setting are very good and tie in multiple reasons for them to simply exist. But holy shit. They did 0 with all of it this game.

  • @benjaminbehan4411

The way MWIII originally played out was good but this was better.
I loved the verdansk mission first as it shows how TF-141 know makarov.
The storyline was more or less the same but I do like the incorporation of the ULF being designated as a terror organisation from MW19 as it provides some context.
Cutting out shepherds testimony was a surprising move and fits in well.
If sledgehammer played it out like this, it would get players hyped for the season 1 story.
When it comes to price needing a motive to kill shepherd, he had a few. Allowing makarov to live back in 2019, ordering shadow company to betray TF-141 and revenge for soap as shepherd could've told TF-141 makarov' plan the moment he was pulled out of the water, which could've prevented the London/tunnel attack or allowed the SAS to get a head start and have price plus the rest of the team join them in due course.
Cutting out the open combat mission where konni deployed bombs and chemical weapons to kill all of verdansk was a good move as it was a distraction setup by makarov.
Overall I like this rewrite, it felt more comfortable as opposed to the actual storyline which was a jumble.
    Original story 7/10
    Inkslasher story 9/10
The reason I am giving inkslasher 9/10 is because while the story was better, soap still died in both versions.
