I live on the east coast of Virginia. During hurricane Isabelle, we were without power for 9 days. During hurricane Floyd, we had power, but no water. Had to stand in lines for bottled water for several days. Fill your bathtub and washing machine up with water for use in flushing toilets, etc. lessons learned the hard way. Our neighborhood was cut off in both directions with no way out due to downed trees across the roads. Neighbors got together with chainsaws and removed the trees in case emergency vehicles needed to get in. Downed power lines are a high danger if the area still has power. These systems are to be respected and taken seriously, even if you are not in its direct path. We are one street over from the marsh to the western branch of the Elizabeth River. So we have a weather radio too, just in case.
I am a new homeowner and found your channel because my front/back yards are full of weeds, and I wanted to learn how to make it look better. I’m glad you’re making these types of videos now because I am interested in emergency preparedness. Hudson, FL. here
Hurricane Fran, I live half an hour east of Raleigh NC and we didn't have power for 12 days! Prayers for families and people that ARE gonna be affected by this storm!
In March 2022 we were without power for 4 days. We got a heavy wet snow storm. Trees came down and so did power lines. I was mostly prepared. What i wasn't prepared for was heat. I have a pellet stove but no way to run it. It was in the upper 30's so jackets and sleeping bags kept us warm. Definitely a lesson learned. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.
Please be safe, Doc! This looks like a bad one moving in. Thank you for sharing "How To Survive Aftermath of a Hurricane with Doc" with all of us. You are well prepared for most inclement weather that can come your way. Bravo!
5 GA. The water bottle is cheap at Sam Club. Good to be prepared. Thanks for all the additional helpful insite. Good luck with you and your family during the rough weather coming in.
I do not live in an hurricane area, but when I run an extension cord through my window I use a Pool Noodle in-between the window, you drill or cut a hole so the ext. cord goes through it. At a minimum get a 2500 watt inverter generator, dual fuel type. It is easier to get propane than gas sometimes. Propanes stores indefinitely.
Morning Doc. Thanks for sharing on how to prepare for a disaster. I am in San Diego County, California. We are set up for FIRE and Earthquakes. Power and food is everything. Those food kits are great. Bottle water and tents ⛺ are a must. Be safe.
I like those emergency lanters, going to buy two. Keep your eye out at Costco. Firman 7500W Running / 9400W Peak Tri Fuel Generator. I got this baby for 699 last summer, normally 999. I run my whole house with. Put a soft start in for the 5 ton heat pump. I installed a bypass switch, a back feed two pole 50 breaker . Bought a 20 foot 50 amp cord on Amazon and added a 50 amp female lockable outlet. that was expensive. I had two black outs this month, used it twice already. Its Tri-fuel too. I use gas, when that runs out i have underground propane tank to use. Great generator. Everybody has to get at least a portable generator. Life safer. Lights are flashing as I type, the hurricane is just 200 miles west of me. Rut Ro!
Just 90 days for Maria?, you got lucky, 6 months here in Ceiba 😂, we prep better than everyone in the mainland US, Yo tengo Un canal que nadie ve 😂, Si El ve Un Categoria 5, se caga 😂
Ohhhh, that was Hurricane Fran. I was there too. Was a mess for sure. They burned all the downed trees out the back gate at SJAFB where I was. They burned for over a year.
During Hurricane Ike I went 14 days with a new generator, powering a dorm fridge, fans and laptops. I had never used a generator before and it backfired during the initial start up. Luckily I did have internet and cell phone service. During Berly I went 8 days with solar powered generators, after 72 it was a daily struggle getting them charged up. What made it harder was no cell phone or internet service, oh and there was a shortage of ice 🥵
The camp stove is far too close to the side of your home. If it flairs it can catch your home on fire. Put a fire retardant behind the stove at your home.
Hey Doc, My name is Cj and I'm a disabled U.S. Army Vet that is medically retired. I live in Texas out here in by Hill country and I have started a lawn car bussiness and I follow you but just finally clicked the link to follow you because of your knowledge. I would love to talk to you and I'm sure that you get ton's of messages but I am hoping that there will be away to talk to you and get some pointers on things that I'm doing. If there is away for you to respond to me I would greatly appreciate you getting back to me? Thanks CPL Larkin U.S. Army (RET)
I hope our Doc didn't have many trees down, damage, and power if out is restored quickly. East Georgia and South Georgia looks bleak. Western Carolinas took a heavy hit with flooding and fallen trees.
Yea, it's going to be bad for you. Power for sure is out for days, multiple days. I don't think severe flooding like a 100 year flood will happen, but flooding will occur in the typical places. But the winds are going to take A LOT of electrical infrastructure out. This will be a BROAD amount of electrical infrastructure out in Georgia. Georgia will feel the worst of it. And I guess with winds, lots of barns, sheds, roofs of houses damaged or gone.
Anyones grass just turn brown after all of the water soaking your lawn ? Any tips or tricks ? I had the best grass in the neighborhood… now I have the worse grass :(
Hey Doc checking to see if you and your family are safe!
All good thanks
🙋♂ 11 days no power - Tornado. I'm excited for the 'long term preparation series' of videos. Come On!!
Hope you and the family are ok. Can’t wait to see more tips I can use in Spartanburg, SC to clean up

Be safe. Thanks Doc!
I am from New Orleans I was without electric for 3 weeks back in the 60's. I now live in Florida and have emergency supplies to last for months.
30 days in Puerto Rico with Georges. 90 days during Hurricane Maria.
Just 90 days for Maria?, you got lucky, 6 months here in Ceiba 😂, we prep better than everyone in the mainland US, Yo tengo Un canal que nadie ve 😂, Si El ve Un Categoria 5, se caga 😂

I was without power for 2weeks in new York. The entire city. Bad wind storm. Thousands of downed trees
We live in northwest Tenn forecast 6 inches of rain coming with lots of wind we do have a generator.
Informative video, Doc...
I was without power for 30 days after Hugo in Charleston, SC
30 days is no joke wow😢
Great video as always Doc. Curious if you’re running the 10 gauge ext cord straight to your appliances or using some sort of surge protector as well?
Thanks Doc!
Welcome
Great video
Over hear in Puerto Rico we had no power for about half a year during huracan Maria.
Doc, are you all ok??
Great video.....well prepped
You be safe
I have six 40# propane tanks for the generator, easier than messing around with gas cans and I don't have to worry about gummed up carbs
What watch are you wearing? Looks sharp!

When do you get back to the farm property? Wonder how the girls are doing. Looking forward to seeing John too 😂
What is your solar system inside your home?
I hope our Doc didn't have many trees down, damage, and power if out is restored quickly. East Georgia and South Georgia looks bleak. Western Carolinas took a heavy hit with flooding and fallen trees.
Did really well thanks. Lost power for 3 days down at the beach
@@HowTowithDoc 👍
so, everyone in Houston has probably had power out after 10 days
I assume you don't have natural gas to run a whole home Generac because they are great. Praying for ya'll.
Is your neighbor brining in your chickens or they staying out?!
I survived the longest blackout in US history, 3rd in the whole world 🌎, not everyone can say that 😂...10 days is a cake walk now.
Hurricane Ike I went 25 days with a new generator,
7 days without power, for me.😱

Easy to say people should be able to live for a week without power. if the average person had his money it could be easily done. A bit out of touch.
Most people CAN afford it. Don't bitch about people that work hard their whole lives and live frugally so they can prepare.
