We used to tour with our van but we made the decision to try a seasonal pitch for a year…..we are now in our 3rd season of being on a seasonal pitch & we love it! Just come & go as we please.. I intended to stay 10 in our van over the summer holidays… it ended up being nearly 40 nights! I doubt we will go back to touring now. But each to their own.. we might change to a static… but not for some time. I love that we have new neighbours every week or so.. made so many friends. Love it!

Totally agree - it's all gone stupid! We hardly ever go back to the same location for a holiday. We cannot book a year in advance. And as for all those who book any & every week end/Bank hol just because they dont have to pay up front and then cancel at last minute.... we'll I just despair!

I quite agree the prices are gone stupid we normally in our camper and caravan go with the camping caravan club, why can't farmers release some of their grounds and the local councils being a bit more flexible in granting them permissions, we do need to competition if the prices keep going to hi there people be more inclined to go abroad, I'm sure the government would rather have stay in Britain and keep the currency in Britain, what we done recently quite a lot finding who will allowed to park on a driveway and gave us water and electric it was brilliant cheap, thank you for your article look forward to seeing a next one

In June 21 we tried to book the same site for June 22. They were all fully booked. Plus as you say they’d even increased the pitch fees by another £79 per week. I’ll be glad when this staycation is over. Way things are going you might as well buy holidays abroad

Its a shame that sites are over pricing in some situations, but now with minimum wage, inflation and general costs etc they may go up even more

Caravan holidays are not cheap especially if you are a couple not a family, and like you said people will start to travel abroad again. I can see a lot of caravans being sold if the prices keep climbing at the rates they are. We like touring but again trying to find a site is almost impossible.

Luckily I have a 100% off grid campervan. So we don't have this issue. I would hate to think i had to book a site 6 months in advance, as we all know in the UK we are never guaranteed the weather. We can decide on the day wethwr we head North or South, East or West and chase the weather.

Great channel and refreshing honestly, so glad RUclips steered me your way. As a person is/was planning to comeback to caravan touring after some years having sold our motorhome. I'm afraid we are going to delay or not return to the lifestyle presently now. I own a modest 30 ft sailboat and though berthing and maintaining it is ever increasingly expensive, it seems unwise to jump out of the frying pan so to speak! By the way, you make sailing sound 'cheap' Ha! Keep up the great work.....

Hi . great video as per usual. I recently went to a. Camping and caravan site. It was rammed solid. I don’t think there was a pitch left. If campsites keep on pushing up their prices. People gonna leave the hobby and just go back abroad again. As per Usual whenever somebody can make a quick buck double or triple the prices on things. I know they’ve got to recoup money for the losses they’ve had in the last 18 months but Double the prices .That it was two years ago .this is unsustainable and again will lead to a lot of people leaving a hobby

I've find it reasonably easy to book CLs at short notice, unlike your experience, and prices for those are still reasonable. You may not have much in the way of facilities but with a modern caravan that's ok.

I must have dropped lucky as we decided to start caravaning about six weeks ago. Walked into a local dealer and bought a brand new caravan and picked it up a few weeks later.
It's now sat on a seasonal pitch which I'll admit was a bit difficult to find. It took us around a week to find one and dropped lucky as one came available in an area we enjoy.
Every campsite we spoke to was around the 2k Mark, 2.5k been the highest. The one we are at are holding the price at 2k next year.

Gorgeous friendly site and asked the owner if we could store van there. Waited 18 months for permanent pitch and now happily parked up with no intention of going anywhere else !! (bit expensive though, £550 per year and £17 p. night when we are there!! lol)

Well put across Mark, we struggled to get away two weeks ago because we like to go for 9 or 10 days so we’re not traveling at weekends and found it hard to get a booking for that long.
1 to 3 nights available midweek but all weekends fully booked. I think this is down to camper vans and the fact that they tend to be on the move more whereas we like to have a base and do day out trips in the chosen area. We also have dogs and in 50 odd years of camping and caravanning have never known it to be as mad as it is now.
I do know that the situation is further exasperated by those that block book well in advance then cancel last minute if their choice and circumstances change.
Don’t get me started on seasonal pitches, I see ‘vans with grass 3ft high round them, covered in green algae, that look like no one has been near them for months even in high season.

A friend of mine was in Cornwall for 15 nights and in that time 6 yes 6 different motorhomes came next to him. This is why you can't get more than a couple of days. Look anywhere and you will see what is happing. You book a year ahead and find when you get there there are less than 5 pitches available. You should be able to book your pitch if you book a year ahead. To many motorhomes staying no more than a couple of days.

Hi Mark some good topics there mate,in my opinion I get why prices have gone up on campsites because of the money they have lost during lock down which is all well as long as they drop them next year back to normal...although can't see it because since lockdown it's become rip off Britain and everyone is taking advantage of this situation , touch wood it doesn't happen again.it's ok putting prices up because of demand but what happens when people are free to venture abroad and campsites start to need your custom ,some places might have outpriced them selves and loose some regular customers that they may have had for years out of greed.......guess we will see mate..........Steve.

We’ve not had an issue finding a site. I’ve got 4 more weeks booked for the rest of the year. All 5 van CLs priced at £15 a night. We keep our van at home so packing it is easy. I think I would only ever consider a seasonal pitch when my knees pack up and I can’t put the awning up any more. I have to pitch up on my own as my wife is disabled so while I can still do that I want to be able to go to different places. 4 weeks ago we were in Cornwall and this week we are on the Lincolnshire Coast. Planning Scotland and the Lake District for next year although not booked anything as yet.

Whilst you have made some valid points. I have to say I’ve been touring now for over 30 years and more people are buying tourers to go seasonal for their own personal preference and understand that so I don’t want to be shot down by my honest opinion next. But to be honest it’s this reason that difficulties arise in booking a weekend slot with a tourer as the sites capacity has been reduced as a result. I have been on sites for a weekend and noticed sometimes over 50 % of the pitches are seasonal and not always occupied by their owners for various reasons. I started touring in 1990 to explore our lovely country and always book in advance if possible not always but find somewhere eventually. Regarding prices don’t forget they are a business after all with costs to cover and even 23 ago when my children were small I have paid £30 per night on a site main season down Cornwall for 2 weeks so it’s is still a good value way of getting away and enjoy yourselves. Price of new caravans are going up due to unprecedented rises in raw materials and shortages in the supply chains. You should see how much steel brass aluminium and stainless steel have gone up this year alone. It’s frightening.
Anyway happy caravanning everyone it still won’t put me off and will continue as long as I’m healthy to do so.

A while ago we booked a few long weekends for touring at various over the summer months, for the ones we've been too so far, most where lovely but seen a big increase in Covid Campers, brand new vans, they've never toured before which is fine its good to get into it, however they have absolutely no camping etiquette, just generally being disruptive on sites with visitors coming and going to them, sites having to charge for visitors if they want to visit someone on site. It's starting to become not worth it at all although we've always loved it. Hope you get sorted, I'll keep an ear out 👍

      @thecaravanplace  3 года назад +5

Just go for it. Maybe try to not spend all of your budget if possible as you will never get the first caravan right!! Everyone always tries to get the perfect caravan first time and you won't is the honest answer. Spend as much time in different layouts and once you have a good idea of what will suit you just go for it. Dont waste time thinking about it too much. If it feels like the right caravan just do it. If buying private have it inspected by a AWS engineer first. If from a dealer you should be getting a full service and warranty. But remember you wont get it perfect on your first caravan, what you think you want and need is probably not correct when you start using it. Hope this helps 👍
