So ive made 3 count em 3 PINNED COMMENTOOS and somehow they keep disappearing? Idfk, ANYWAY, we learned a few thing from this video, A: ss was VERY big in south/central America AND France, thats super cool, maybe next time we'll talk about that in depth. Also we've been made VERY aware that the bronze saints didnt die... Whoops! Shonenber marches on tho, Full Metal Brotherhood is ALREADY OUT and we're working on Yu Yu Hakusho right now, we'll see you there! Much love, -Mike
Bonsai Pop yeap. Here in Brazil, Saint Seiya is very popular due to the fantastic voice acting. The voice actors from Saint Seiya here in Brazil are true celebs and their work is trully a piece of art because of the consistency of their work and overall appeal to the iconic moments in the series. Nostalgia waves came about thanks to the Netflix-Toei release of the classic, asgard, poseidon and hades sagas.
Bonsai Pop, I really enjoyed this video essay. Glad to have randomly found you today! Thanks for doing your part in sharing the badassery that is SS, you beautiful man of culture you.
There was a great english dub that was pretty awesome, with the original soundtrack and awesome voice acting, a great version with great and better dialogues, way better than that crap of the Dic version, sadly there are just 53 dubbed episodes i think.
I remember watching it in France. It was really popular. No censorship. The action was amazing, the tension was real and I couldn't wait for the next week to see if Pegasus will win his next fight. There was always a sense of urgency, like the World depends on this battle for Good.
I fucking love this show I even loved the Legend Of Sanctuary movie the Cloths were dope especially when the helmets are automatic like Iron Man and it covers the whole face and hit has a neon glow when they're in battle mode.
True story: When the last episode of Saint Seiya aired in Mexico it happened on the same day as a "soccer" Super Classic. They showed it twice, and both times it completely beat in the soccer game in ratings.
@@JuanRamirez-fx3tf TV Azteca showed it twice that day and it did better than the game. I was there too. It's also something I had to confirm when we produced the Anime al Aire episode of Saint Seiya.
Actually, Saint Seiya wasn't just famous in Japan, but in fact, the show was (and still) HUGE in South America, France and Italy. Here in Brazil specifically, the show was aired in '94 (thankfully with no censorship) and it became an instant cultural phenomenon (I dare to say, even more than it was in Japan). It was almost like a religion, literally.
Even in the early 2000's it was impossible to be a kid in school and not see other kids playing, or talking about, or even watching Saint Seiya in the vhs during lunch break.
i have a 30 year old friend who lost his sight when he was 24, to this day, i spend hours talking about saint seiya with him and i can see how it brings him so much fucking joy
i guess because we can relate somehow with the characters, or idk what kind of magic this show had that we loved it, probably how well thought each character is, although shun in the manga was a total chad, is no bad his depiction in the anime
mildly annoyed by the authors misgeneralization of "the west" but I can let it slide for what is the ultimate goal here: TO GET THE U.S. TO FUCKING WATCH THE SHIT OUT OF THIS.
@@Stroggoii You complain about them but you still only focused on Europe lol Saint Seiya is MASSIVE in Latin America 😂 which by population and landmass, dwarves the countries you mentioned lol
It's important to remark something: THE MUSIC. Seiji Yokoyama was a genius, the OST was incredible and one of the best by far in the entire anime industry.
Hands down. I only watched SS once in my childhood, just ONCE, and with subs no less, and there were bits of the theme stuck in my head, with zero idea where they were from except that they were from some dope anime. And funny enough I read the manga in all its glory, but only discovered the SS theme by accident as a reference in a video, I'm hooked, hands down beautiful this theme.
Maaaaan the soundtrack of Saint Seiya is BONE CHILLING... i think that half of the reason you really FEEL the characters struggling to get back up is because the soundtrack hits like a truck 😂
Absolutely, it's just one of the greatest of all time. And the thing about it is, a lot of it is pretty simple & it employs repetition, but it's still a _massive_ masterpiece compared to so many things during its time and after.
I remember we watched it all in Latin America, uncesnsored and with all its bloody glory, all its eposdes, ovas & movies no censorship and in prime time afternoons and weekends binge watching specials lol
@@javieraristizabalherrera4674 pero la realidad era que no habia el budget para cesurar pendejadas ni hacer trabajos de edicion y afortunadamente eran bien tacaños XD, "fuckt it, just roll with it!" lol
I grew up with this series in Mexico, it was a huge success. The methodology, awsom story and fantastic animation is still one of the best and memorable of all times. I'm so glad I can now show this series to my kids.
>fantastic animation HAHAHAHAHAHA As a fellow Latinoamerican, this show's animation is terrible. I love most things about it but the animation has always been terrible
@@Melkac it was great for the time and the budget. If you are gonna compare it to movies like Akira or shorter series (even 50 episode series dwarf in comparison) of the time you are misleading yourself. Those will obviously have better animation as a result of lower workload and/or higher budget.
clouddavis Maybe the steel saints but they never felt too in the way to matter , also the addition of the crystal saint are the only things I dislike about the anime adaptation
I'm a late 2000's kid, meaning I wasn't born yet when Saint Seiya was aired in Mexico. Both my parents watched the show growing up, and I'm thankful they bought us the CD's with all the episodes in it. My brother and I both love this show, it's one of the things we have in common. Anyway, hell yeah !! Saint Seiya is the best !!
France, Belgium, Italy, Spain,... Well many countries in Europe. It's seems that Saint Seiya is one of the most beloved anime of all time, kind of a religion every were around the world but the us. 😅
That's why I am so sad about Germany: literally no one here knows something about Saint Seiya. I grew up in Poland and everyone knew Saint Seiya. Sadly Poland never brings anything like that on DVD. And since America retired from having anything to do with Saint Seiya I am quite lost, because I understand only Polish, English or German language.
Here in the USA we have the whole series on Netflix as of April...I thought I'd never see the day when all of Saint Seiya was available in my homeland.
Fun fact: the Italian dub of Saint Seiya is recognized as one of the luckiest incidents ever occurred in italian dub history. Basically the dub director was given considerable freedom in adaptation, that he used to completely turn over 99% of the dialogues, also giving the voices a more mature tone. From the original shonen action with almost ridiculous moments and dialogues (let's face it: Seiya is an ass), the italian dub is an EPIC tale about friendship and sacrifice that uses incredibly high-level language, quotes Dante Alighieri and has scenes of poetic tones that enchanted an entire generation of children.
@@marcospelaez5970 Ophiucus Shaina confesses her love in words that could sound like: "I feel it now...Seiya's Cosmos! It's reaching out to shield me from the darkness within me, so sweet is the warmth of stars, so true in their tender caress...! Promise me, Seiya, never to be overcome by darkness! Do not waste your life on me, but most importantly...do not hate me because I dared to love you. I beg of you, Seiya...forgive me if you can!" Imagine a 7-year-old kid listening to this.
In Italy it was huge in the 80s and 90s. It was also very peculiar as the dialogue were adapted to sound like erudite knights would talk, even quoting some passages from Italian literature ... which I know it may sound awkward, but believe me it was just awesome (and taught use more vocabulary than many teachers ever did XD).
I'm guessing the reason it was changed in the anime was because it doesn't really play a role after the initial twist beyond a passing reference when the Bronze Saints find Aiolos' message, as well as to give the relationship between the main cast more impact with most of them not being blood related.
In the manga they have different ages, but in Japan the fangirls shipped a lot of the characters. Toei Animation looked at this and removed the brother related thing and put them in a similar age just for fanservice.
@@mikehobbes6600 Even in the manga, the age difference isn't that great, with Ikki being 15 at the start of the series, Seiya and Shun being 13 and Shiryu and Hyoga being 14 iirc.

Just a few errors I found here: - "There's no filler." Um, pretty much all the events between Ikki's defeat and Misty's arrival are filler, as well as those in between Aiolia coming to Japan and the Bronze Saints heading to Sanctuary (at least in the sense of not being part of the original manga) and it shows when many of them cause the plot to start going in circles in a back and forth for the Sagittarius Cloth. It also shows with how convoluted the Crystal Saint's inclusion caused Hyoga and Camus' relationship to become compared to the manga. The Asgard Arc is also entirely filler, though it at least does what few other filler arcs do and lead directly into canon events. - "We don't hear about those Bronze Saints because they died." They all appeared to help Tatsumi and Kiki protect Athena during the later segments of the 12 Zodiac Palaces Arc, as well as appear several times during the Hades Arc. Their relevance simply got shafted compared to the main 5 after the Galaxian Wars. Also, the original's streaming on Netflix? Think that might only be in the US, since it's certainly not streaming in the UK. Can anyone confirm if they'll be bringing it over to other countries?
BtW!!! the dub on Netflix Its not the dic dub, there where 2 dubs roaming around in english and the one in Netflix I believe is not the dic dub it is the way better (bloody) English version that was released on the home dvd for us in america, which is why it only has very few epsidoes. That's all that was ever released and completed in that english dub version. You where able to buy that version but it is too expensive on ebay.
Just a correction: A lot of characters die on the show, that's true, but Hydra, Wolf and Bear didn't died in the Galactic War Arc. They re-apear in later arcs.
Here in France, Saint Seiya ruled the tv, more than Dragon ball at that time. It was EVERYWHERE. Shitajikis and plastified rami cards were selling for like insane amounts of money etc... It's because of this kind of anime, in 90's, that france became the second biggest manga consumer, right behind Japan. Asgard is the period i prefer. Ho, and the musics. Yes, this anime is awesome.
Yes. The 3 shows mentioned (Les chevaliers du Zodiac, Ken le conquerant, Dragon Ball) and Cobra were my favorite action anime at the time. Club Dorothée really shaped a generation of French kids into loving anime and manga
it's the same here in Italy, dragon ball didn't really became something until the early 2000s when they began airing DBZ... before that it was pretty much only Saint Seiya, Hokuto no Ken, the various mecha animes, and Yoroiden Samurai Trooper... and Ranma 1/2 and Sailor Moon, can't forget those :D
5:57 Little correction here: Seiya didn't kill the Bear Saint, and Hyoga didn't kill the Hydra Saint. Geki (the Bear Saint) appears lately, in one of the episodes of the "12 Houses" story arc, and Ichi (the Hydra Saint) appears as a minor antagonist in the movie "Overture" and in the "Omega" series. Thing is: Kurumada has a bad habit of sidelining promising characters for the sake of others (basically, what happens very often with Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun and Ikki, for the sake of Seiya), sometimes to the point of even completely forgetting they exist (basically, what happens to the other Bronze Saints)
*Here in Brazil, this anime was HUGE when it was first released and it's still one of most loved, recognized and popular anime EVER! It still has legions of fans around here and the rest of Latin America.*
"Never took off in the west"? It's more like "Never took off in the anglosphere" because it's a generation-defining show in latinamerica. Also I hope you get to see the Asgard and Poseidon sagas from the original run of Saint Seiya, because they're also incredible.
Yeah, they love to pretend that they are the center of the world, using "american" as if they are all of the america continent wasnt enough, now they think they are the entire west too.

Ey its the pinned comment! Wow, i had no idea how many people from south and central america watched our content! In my research it didn't say anything about it being a hit down there but it makes a lot of sense! I mean, what goes better with Morrissey than Saint Seiya? But in all seriousness thanks for letting me know, it sounds like a fun cultural episode for the future! Also Seiya was pretty big in France for the record. Lastly it looks like i got some stuff wrong, i guess the bear and hydra saints aren't dead, HOWEVER a LOT of people do die in this show, those were unfortunately bad examples, 'sigh. I do my best. Also seems like filler comes in eventually which is a shame, but that first season is just fire AF, i thiiiink its like 72 episodes straight. Watch this for better context regarding anime in Latin America, it's very informative. BTW thanks for the content ruclips.net/video/Vev5Gp2skhI/видео.html
The ghost saints arc was filler and the arc with Asgard is filler(1 of the best fillers arcs EVER IMO) also crystal saint is a filler character, in the manga Hyoga was trained by Gold Saint Camui and was sent to kill the bronze saints at the galaxian tournament. The saints who die are all silver saints sent as assassins by the sanctuary. BTW you should have totally spoiled that Saori is Athena re incarnated and that sanctuary was taken over by evil. Also fun manga fact for you. In the manga, Mitsumada Kiddo had sex with women all over the world and took his sons...yes all of the bronze saints that he picked were his children and they are all half brothers!
Yeah, I was about to comment "Bear Geki and Hydra Ichi didn't die. lol" They're secondary Bronze Saints, so their job during the Sanctuary Arc is mostly Guard Saori's body. After Galaxian Wars, they had to heal their bodies and wait for the repairs of their cloths. Also, FUCK NETFLIX
If you like classic Saint Seiya, check out these spin offs. *Next dimension* a canon story written by the author, set during the last Holy war with Hades and then taking place in the future after Hades is defeated. Time travel is in this and Shun the new Virgo Gold Saint, goes into the past with some other Bronze to try and save the future, including a comatose seiya. *Lost canvas* an anime about the last holy war with Hades but written by a new author. Not cannon to the main series but a really good watch or read. No time travel here, just a different Era with different heroes and villains. *Santia Sho* This new author envisions a private force of female saints called "the santia" sworn to protect Athena alone and not adhere to the rules of Sanctuary. Whats cool about this manga/anime is how it takes place during and after the classic saint seiya series. Some retcons had to be made, like Saori knowing she was Athena from the start and Saga being possessed by a God but overall the look and feel of the show is like classic saint seiya. The protagonist is a girl named Shouko who is just as tough as any of the male bronze saints we have seen in the past. You'll see a lot of characters you love from the classic franchise too! Like for example Gold Saint Milo, he plays a big part in the story. *Omega* Though it was ousted in this video as being a bad spin off, if you love the classic characters they all make returns here, especially in season 2. Wanna see phoenix Ikki look Badass showing off to the new generation of saints? Watch season 2. Want to see Gold Saint Seiya, Gold Saint Shiryu, Gold Saint Kiki? Watch season 2, the nostalgia and continuation of their stories will certainly delight you. Hopefully you can tolerate the new cast of Bronze saints. Should be noted that season 2 kind of retcons season 1's pokemon esq cosmos explanation.
@@nworder4life Yeah People kinda disregard Omega because of the newer "elements" (lol) that they don't like and brush it off as negative in general. Omega is like a "non-canon, canon continuation"

This show and Yu Yu Hakusho were my entire childhood in the 80's and 90's lol. It mixes christianity and Greek religion. The idea of the saints and a Pope, also the fact you need to be good hearted or honorable to earn the armor. Also 88 saints is the number of disciples Jesus had. The main gold 12 representing the apostles. Best anime intro song ever as well! Pegasus Fantasy should be heard by every anime fan.
So somehow our pinned comment disappeared? but im back with ANOTHER ONE! So first off, I made a mistake, clearly the bronze saints in the galaxian wars aren't dead so thanks for letting us know. Also i wish i had said "was never big in the US" rather than in "the west." Gotta remember i'm a silly American who makes mistakes, honestly it's a shame though cause SO many people die in the show that if i had just not mentioned the bronze saints it would've been fine lol. However, it seems the majority of you enjoyed the video and were able to look past some small errors and see the big picture, that i freakin LOVED watching this show. Which is what this video was all about was wanting to share something i loved with people who either haven't been exposed to it, or love it as well. ALSO! i've gotten a lot of questions about the Bowling for Soup bit, First, i don't hate that song, what i hate is the "Americanization" early anime dubbers felt that they had to stuff into things and in 2003 when Seiya hit the US BFS was huge and using their cover of an 80's jam was an excellent example of "trying to draw kids in." it's commercialism that bums me out, not necessarily the song. Anyway, 11/16 is Full Metal Brotherhood so get HYPE! Thanks for being cool dude neutrals, -Mike
The bit about "the west" is not a small mistake You're from the US and we have to consider the decades of propaganda you have been fed BUT WE THE WORLD are sick of tour bullshit. Hope you learnt something from this comment thread

And Shun ain't gay, he's effeminate, but not gay. He has a somewhat lover, Chameleon June
As many people said below, Saint Seiya was really popular in the West, that includes Asia, Europe, South America. It was one of the biggest hits. And just for the Record, from all that came out as anime with Saint Seiya Branch, Saint Seiya Omega was the closest thing that we could get to the original series even if it wasn't that great.
Sorry. Disagree. I like original better. But I showed both to my kids and they prefer cgi...and im fine with it. It is not that bad. And I think the intro song is better. I think the "nostalgua lens" makes us biased to begin with.

You ain’t seen nothing yet, the Sanctuary Arc with the gold Saints is literally the best shonen I have ever seen. Hands down. And while yes technically the arc after it is filler it’s actually pretty damn good, 100% worth the watch
I actually prefer the Asgard filler saga to the Poseidon one that came afterwards. The God Warriors of Asgard were characters that were more developed while Poseidon's Generals were often too simple and straightforward, leaving Kanon aside.
A friend who visited Brazil showed me some of the anime and RPG stuff available there. Respect to the Brazil anime community, for their enthusiasm and energy! You guys even made a Saint Seiya RPG!
I’ll say it now, being a hardcore American fan, let alone being an American and even knowing that the series exists at all, can be pretty fucking hard. There’s literally no one you can talk to about the series IRL, it’s incredibly hard to get your hands on, and you gotta be proficient with Google translate if you’re even gonna begin to understand the expanded lore in its entirety. Right now the only access I have to this show is the manga on Kindle and the shitty CGI Netflix remake.

@@Davidpostingshid charitably, maybe not his fault. The North American version is a censored, re-edited, re-ordered (chapters are rearranged) mess. Enough so that I'm actually salty that they decided to pander to an older fanbase and pay homage to the classic look instead of going for something similar to the original art.
Here in Brazil people idolize this show... I, my parents, families and friends loves it. I can, in the name of all in Latin America, confirm that Saint Seiya is a miracle brought by the stars to be relished by our mortal souls.

Moving to the USA when I was 10(from Mexico City), I was so sad they didn’t have Saint Seiya here. Then I got super angry when Cartoon Network had that shitty version. I couldn’t believe they gave Hyoga a surfer accent
This series also ran in France during the 1980's and was called 'Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque' - which translates to - 'the Knights of the Zodiak'. The dubbed french wasn't that bad as I recall and I managed to watch pretty much all episodes back then. Thank you for making this video and your views on this legendary cartoon show. Be well, stay safe.
it´s so good to see Americans give Saint Seiya the respect it deserves, in my opinion, the best season of Saint Seiya is the first arc of the Hades saga(Sanctuary), it´s sad, it´s serious it has the gold saints and some great revelations, the music is beautiful and has great animation, sadly the rest of the Hades Saga can´t live up to how majestic the first part is, i still have to watch the newer seasons and read the follow up to the hades saga that the author did after his script for the Heaven movie got turned into a bad movie
I grew up watching Saint Seiya in Honduras and migrated to the United States when I was 12. I was completely shocked when my boyfriend (who is also into anime) told me he had never seen it.
Remember when that show, completely out of nowhere pulled out a fucking tokusatsu squad of steel saints with LITERAL MECHA SUITS THAT WERE DESIGNED TO IMMITATE THE REGULAR SAINTS' CLOTHS!?
This video is awesome, it kind of teared me up a little. I sometimes get tired of defending Saint Seiya to people but you did it so eloquently to the point, you treated each character with respect and you understood their motivation as individuals as well as a whole. Thank you so much for your video, it made my day.
For the US fanbase who never watched the whole series: The arc of the 12 Houses of the Zodiac (eps 42 - 73) is definitely one of the most ICONIC and INFLUENTIAL battle shounen arcs of all time. Ever. It shares, for example, the same level of importance and impact that the DBZ's Frieza Arc had to the whole 80's/90's anime culture - this arc alone (along with DBZ, Hokuto no Ken - and latter, Yu Yu Hakusho) helped to shape the basic fundamentals of what a classic battle shounen anime should be.
I grew up with Saint Seiya during the mid 90s' and I tried to find a full list of episodes around the early 2000s' and all I could find were episodes that had Spanish or Latin audio or subs... I did a little more finding around 2005 for complete episodes but what I found was that the Hades arc was currently happening and I loved it, sadly this is indeed an underrated series, I also love the Lost Canvass
I CAN'T watch this show without the Brazilian dub lol. My brother has the entire series on DVD and started giving it to me when I was seven. All the blood and death made me feel so badass and it's still my favorite anime even if it has many flaws
It was nice hearing the point of view of someone who got the USA version first. I will be sharing this. That you didn't comment on the twelve temples arc tells me you haven't reached that part. It's the most iconic and most imitated part of the series (just look at the Soul Society arc of Bleach and Wakfu season 3). There also return a couple of the characters that you supposed are dead (not that the dead cannot return, depending of what official content you include in your canon). Saint Seiya is as big or maybe bigger in the west than in Japan. Except in english speaking countries, it seems. The Hades OVAs were made after they liked so much a fan animation by a western fan. And filler... There is a lot of filler in the anime, but its just better than the filler of lets say Naruto. Its fine but from these parts that were not in the manga that include things that give some characters bad fame, like Saori getting kidnapped all the time or Ikki having to finish Shun's fights. Still, the Asgard arc is the best filler arc in all the story of anime. I will share your video in some Saint Seiya groups. I want them to hear what you said and give their opinion.

Shun isn't queer, tho. He's actually pretty damn manly despite his prettiness. He has his own island and a waifu. The yaoi stuff was made up by folks who only read too much into it (as with most doujin genres tbh).
Just a correction, the bronze saints from the tournament are alive and well, no one died, they appear a few times on later seasons. Great video and I love it as well, I actually just rewatched the entire series until Hades a couple days ago so a happy coincidence :)

@@GNParty "Our country is literally #1" says the man who never ventured outside his state. USA is a great country for sure, but believing that it s #1 in any field is a recipe for disaster.
Just a few errors I found here:
- "There's no filler." Um, pretty much all the events between Ikki's defeat and Misty's arrival are filler, as well as those in between Aiolia coming to Japan and the Bronze Saints heading to Sanctuary (at least in the sense of not being part of the original manga) and it shows when many of them cause the plot to start going in circles in a back and forth for the Sagittarius Cloth.
It's streaming in Brazil, it was a huge news for Netflix BR.

Agreed, and yes it is streaming in all Latin America, the whole original series in Japanese and the original dub I may add. And it is epic!
BtW!!! the dub on Netflix Its not the dic dub, there where 2 dubs roaming around in english and the one in Netflix I believe is not the dic dub it is the way better (bloody) English version that was released on the home dvd for us in america, which is why it only has very few epsidoes. That's all that was ever released and completed in that english dub version. You where able to buy that version but it is too expensive on ebay.
This is why I went straight to the manga.
Just a correction: A lot of characters die on the show, that's true, but Hydra, Wolf and Bear didn't died in the Galactic War Arc. They re-apear in later arcs.
Bruno Severino I came to the comments to say the same thing. ^_^

You can see them run out when shyriu is dying after his fight with Seiya
They acutally show up to protect Athena and Tatsumi in the 12 Houses arc.
Asgard was a filler arc but yes I agree it was freakin awesome.
Same in Spain as the name Caballeros del Zodiaco
Yes! The music by Seiji Yokoyama it's god-tier. And YES the Asgard Chapter it's beyond awesome
5:57
Little correction here: Seiya didn't kill the Bear Saint, and Hyoga didn't kill the Hydra Saint.

Yeah, I was about to comment "Bear Geki and Hydra Ichi didn't die. lol"
They're secondary Bronze Saints, so their job during the Sanctuary Arc is mostly Guard Saori's body.
It's still weird to me that a lot of Americans never even heard about Saint Seiya, here in Latin America it's a religion.
Yeah the U.S. was behind when it comes to anime.
Can u blame Americans? Anime distribution in America was still early at that time. Hence why saint Seiya is obscure in America
To be fair even Fist of the North Star is kind of niche in America. Not everything can break through everywhere like Dragon Ball.
Yes I grew up watching this Amazing beautiful show it’s really attached in my childhood in The Dominican Republic and yes it was literally a religion and so Bad North Americans didn’t have the save Anime culture we had back then
In Africa it's good
How to watch saint seiya in order:
1-Lost canvas
2-saintuo sho
3-Knights of the zodiac
4-The hades
5-Soul of gold
6-omega
This show and Yu Yu Hakusho were my entire childhood in the 80's and 90's lol. It mixes christianity and Greek religion. The idea of the saints and a Pope, also the fact you need to be good hearted or honorable to earn the armor.
Also 88 saints is the number of disciples Jesus had. The main gold 12 representing the apostles.
Best anime intro song ever as well! Pegasus Fantasy should be heard by every anime fan.
the deep messages the characters teach
Thanks for being cool dude neutrals,
-Mike
Do not be so hard on yourself and burn your kosmo!
u cool my man, you not only got the point of the show but you're also spreading the gospel of Knights of the Zodiac, and that's all that matters
Ok, I will turn my dislike into a like. But you will have to watch the Hades ovas now AND remember that Docrates fled from the cops
The bit about "the west" is not a small mistake
You're from the US and we have to consider the decades of propaganda you have been fed BUT WE THE WORLD are sick of tour bullshit.
Hope you learnt something from this comment thread
Man this anime was soo damm popular in peru that when I came to the US, I was shocked people I talk to abou anime didn’t know what saint Seiya was...
carlos saldana facts!! My brother!!
Americans had their garbage transformers and scooby doo. Latin americans grew up on saint seiya, sailor moon and drazgon ball
@Agent Agent ok shaggy was nice. But scrappy doo was full garbage
@@bubbytumby8509 Transformers are great. What are you talking about.
@@thebleachbartender1312 compared to anime, transformers is garbage
For the people exposed to the Latinoamerica vertion we already know it's a really awesome show. Hopefully more people will watch the complete series.
sorry, i was exposed to the italian version, and the amazing Carabelli's adaptation
2:47 pls stop, I can't laugh any longer it's too cringey to hear!! lol xD
I love Saint Seiya, it's one of my many childhood anime that inspired me to love anime in the first place. I hated what they did with the english in its first run. I'm glad that Netlfix got to pick it back up ( not the shitty 3D one) Their new english dub is alot better now
btw the Lionet Saint Ban, Bear Geki, and Hydra Ichi are all alive, they've been seen a few times after they lost the tournament and also seen as supporting cast during the Sanctuary Arc protecting Athena.
And Shun ain't gay, he's effeminate, but not gay. He has a somewhat lover, Chameleon June
Gemini Kanon said your Worthless...
Love this anime it good right up there with dragon ball and naruto for me it that good
As many people said below, Saint Seiya was really popular in the West, that includes Asia, Europe, South America. It was one of the biggest hits.
And just for the Record, from all that came out as anime with Saint Seiya Branch, Saint Seiya Omega was the closest thing that we could get to the original series even if it wasn't that great.
I had no idea there was a CGI Saint Saiya reboot....
And I can see why.
Yeah, it sucks major ass
Horrible pg13 shit
It's pretty bad
Sorry. Disagree. I like original better. But I showed both to my kids and they prefer cgi...and im fine with it. It is not that bad. And I think the intro song is better. I think the "nostalgua lens" makes us biased to begin with.
@@akevy8 ok...bad action,no blood,no major moments that are actually remembered
The only thing that the 3D Reboot has over the OG is that it's 3d....that's it
The Spanish dub is just as good. Great classic anime.
Fun fact the voice of Seiya is also the red ranger in the dub of MMPR!
Its not, the translation was horrible, take out your nostalgia googles.
@@homerc9101 Hahaha u must be a devil with the ladies;)
My wife is watching it at Netflix for the first time. She is hooked. It IS quite good.

My mom literally introduced me to anime when I was a kid, watched all that disturbing shit and I'm ok so no excuses for these psychos
Like the guy from scream says" Movies don't create psycho killers, movies make psycho killers more creative"
I know this topic is about anime but still
You've got the coolest mom ever.
So so one day when I was about five years old my dad was watching sant seiya and I asked what he was doing and he show me the anime because it was like for him the best anime and then it become my best anime so I love it to today and I'll keep loving it I guess forever if possible
I´ll always thank God for letting this series be aired uncensored in my native Argentina. I wouldn´t be the same man if I hadn´t watched this show as a child.
Here in Brazil, Saint Seiya is a iconic anime, and we did get the uncensored version with a godly dub
After watching Saint Seiya I realized I need more friends like Shiryu
@Shaman X Why are you everywhere hating?
Shiryu is an amazing friend!
Shiryu amigo
Shiryu is the best!!! True friendship there
And we all need a older brother like Ikki.
You ain’t seen nothing yet, the Sanctuary Arc with the gold Saints is literally the best shonen I have ever seen. Hands down. And while yes technically the arc after it is filler it’s actually pretty damn good, 100% worth the watch
Yes. Asgard Chapter is God tier
I actually prefer the Asgard filler saga to the Poseidon one that came afterwards. The God Warriors of Asgard were characters that were more developed while Poseidon's Generals were often too simple and straightforward, leaving Kanon aside.
@@kevintanza6968 To think that arc happened because Kanon commits identity theft.
@@Zidane_Mina I would say Odin tier
@@iamhungey12345 Oh, Kanon, that glorious son of a bitch hahaha whatever happened to the real Sea Dragon?
Here in South America, actually in Brasil, is an anime that opened the country to anime industry!
Always good to remember Docrates afraid of the cops
A friend who visited Brazil showed me some of the anime and RPG stuff available there. Respect to the Brazil anime community, for their enthusiasm and energy! You guys even made a Saint Seiya RPG!
Whaaaaat and u didn't what Mazinger Z in the 80's or el Vengador for example? No Astro Boy?
I’ll say it now, being a hardcore American fan, let alone being an American and even knowing that the series exists at all, can be pretty fucking hard. There’s literally no one you can talk to about the series IRL, it’s incredibly hard to get your hands on, and you gotta be proficient with Google translate if you’re even gonna begin to understand the expanded lore in its entirety. Right now the only access I have to this show is the manga on Kindle and the shitty CGI Netflix remake.
My father watched every single episode of saint seiya when it aired in colombia. The only tome he missed an episode was when he got grounded for staining his only school uniform. Crazy
I just got into Saint Seiya and my dad utterly loves it. He is from Mexico so he often talks about how great it is I agree with him to a certain extent it is actually pretty good and I love the Gold Saints those guys are broken as hell and awesome.
is sad that people on the states never get to see how cool it was, we latin americans love this
In Brasil this was a quite famous anime, every grown up knows about It and has a huge fan base...It is Just classic
Bear and Hyrda didn’t die, they show up later in the sanctuary arc
Steve Cox I was wondering if anyone else was going to point this out, they show up all the way in the series finally of the Hades Saga
Dude didn't even mention the cool gold saints. Obviously haven't reached that part.
Alberto Rodrigo Molinas Ortiz yeah he clearly didn’t watch the whole series
Also he said the series has no filler...
@@Davidpostingshid charitably, maybe not his fault. The North American version is a censored, re-edited, re-ordered (chapters are rearranged) mess. It requires a scholar to understand the series as it's meant to be in the USA... and get over the green blood.
Fortunately I got to watch it in the Mexican dub version's glory :)
I'm rewatching the show now for the first time since I saw it as a kid. Lots of beautiful boys indeed.
The bear and idra saints didn't die in the tournament. They come out in later seasons because there are a lot. They most recently came out in Saint Seiya omega where they actually train the new saints
A recommendation: Watch Saint Seiya - The Lost Canvas. In my opinion, it's the only modern homage of Saint Seiya that's worthy.
Jaime Pe The original series is quite good, but yeah, Lost Canvas is better. Lost Canvas is arguably the best anime of all time.
@@KotR9001 Absolutely! And they gave the due treatment that the Golden Saints deserved! Unfortunately they never finished the animation because the copyright owners wanted to push that Omega garbage!
Jaspion CCV I just started watching Omega, and I don’t know if it gets any better, but the first two episodes seemed to indicate that it was vastly inferior to Lost Canvas or even the original series.
My ranking right now is Lost Canvas>OG series>Soul of Gold>>Omega>_Saintia Sho.
@@KotR9001 I know this comment is 6 months old, but I still have to say this.
Lost Canvas and OG is debatable and entirely up to your taste. The rest...yeah, I'd agree with those positions, but still, do not dismiss Saintia Sho entirely. The anime IS shit, but look up the manga, it's gorgeous.
Enough so that I'm actually salty that they decided to pander to an older fanbase and pay homage to the classic look instead of going for something similar to the original art.
@@KotR9001 soul of Gold is the best
Here in Brazil people idolize this show... I, my parents, families and friends loves it.
I can, in the name of all in Latin America, confirm that Saint Seiya is a miracle brought by the stars to be relished by our mortal souls.
Here in Brazil, Saint Seiya is the most popular anime ever alongside dragon Ball.
this show was also iconic in indonesia, where we can only watch in the local pay tv...
it was aired at 5 pm, a time where we were about to finish our class everyday, then we rushed to our home for show...
some of us watched in the teacher room...
some of us watched in the canteen...
some of us just watch in middle of our way home...lol
some of us just doing that because our home is too far from our school...
or just because we didn't have a tv set at home..
or even we had a tv set, we can't pay the monthly bill...lol
what a nostalgic moment...
I'd argue it was bigger than Dragon Ball down here in Brazil. And I appreciate you shining a light upon my favorite series.

Same in alot of european countries. Specially in france.
True
I recently watched up til season 4 from Netflix's new dub. The one thing I can say about Saint Seiya is it is immersive. I watched season 2 to 3 in one night without ever realizing it. I am now just patiently waiting for season 4 to be dubbed, if it ever happens.

¡Cadena de andrómeda!
¡La furia del dragón!
¡Polvo de diamantes!
this series was recommended to me by a bestfriend of mine that i have known for nearly 10 years just finished the first episode of saint seiya and man i loved it alot
In italy it was a true classic, famous for the dub where the character talked like knight from old time, in aulic and with quote from classic book like the Divine Comedy. Sometime I think we Italian loved the serie more than the japanese :D

Seen this anime and really liked it. Always have a soft spot for 80s anime so cool an badass.
_Saint Seiya: An Underrated Classic_
As a big fan of Saint Seiya, glad to see this get some love!
"there is no filler" my brother in Christ, there was an entire season of filler made up by the show, and it went hard as fuck
I grew up watching Saint Seiya in Honduras and migrated to the United States when I was 12. I was completely shocked when my boyfriend (who is also into anime) told me he had never seen it.
Actually the anime was full of fillers: Asgard, Phantom Saints and a lot of the saints shown before the Sanctuary Saga were fillers.
Yea but at least many of them were very decent, nothing like Naruto or Bleach.
That "fillers has fights, so..? 🤷♂️
Even dbz had r
Tons of fillers
Remember when that show, completely out of nowhere pulled out a fucking tokusatsu squad of steel saints with LITERAL MECHA SUITS THAT WERE DESIGNED TO IMMITATE THE REGULAR SAINTS' CLOTHS!?
This video is awesome, it kind of teared me up a little. I sometimes get tired of defending Saint Seiya to people but you did it so eloquently to the point, you treated each character with respect and you understood their motivation as individuals as well as a whole. Thank you so much for your video, it made my day.
"How do you beat a god . jump him with the bois" saint seiya is super underrated i hope people watch the original on netflix / read the manga
For the US fanbase who never watched the whole series:
The arc of the 12 Houses of the Zodiac (eps 42 - 73) is definitely one of the most ICONIC and INFLUENTIAL battle shounen arcs of all time.
Saint Seiya Omega is actually kinda fire. Give it a second look. Characters can die and some fights go hard.
I was 5 years old when I watched Saint Seiya for the first time. More than 20 years later is still my favorite anime.

SAINT SEIYA, PEGASUS, HASTA EL FINAAAAAAL
"faça elevar o cosmo do seu coração". The brazilian opening song became a classic of our national heavy metal
I only started to watch a few days ago and I gotta say, the galaxian wars arc is some wild, wild stuff.
