- Recorded over multiple sessions in a San Francisco warehouse, Young’s score for Dead Man was recorded entirely to picture. And Jim Jarmusch was there to capture the magic on Hi8. Earlier this year, we asked the director if he could dig up the original footage, which he kindly did, and from that we created a half-hour program for our release. You can get a taste of it here!
One of the best soundtracks.
the sound he gets out the guitar is just amazing.
The most mysterious electric guitar sound that ever existed.
Dead Man is my favourite film (saw it in cinema 1995, pre internet era). I couldn´t believe such a piece of art full of visual poetry. I discoverd William Blake`s poetry thanks to Jarmush too. It was difficult to find the CD music those days in Spain. I bought it and I couldn´t understand why the "Dead Man opening theme" was NOT in the Sound Track when it is the most beautiful song... Now, internet era, we can even see Neil Young performing it... I´ve got old, but happier :)
Dead Man is still my favorite.
I watch it once a year, or so. Showing someone new, or just to be there again, with Nobody and William Blake. This song plays in the back of my head often; it's so ingrained into me now.
I came here to show this song to my 8 year old son. We were playing Wizard With A Gun, and the soundtrack seems very inspired by Neil Young's work here. So, I had to show him.
Dead Man is a masterpiece of film.
You have impeccable taste!
😎👉
This soundtrack was a modern masterpiece. It's unfortunate that it is known only to Neil Young fans, Jim Jarmusch fans, and random guitar geeks.
Incredible. The fact this movie even exists still blows my mind
mmm indeed
Of me too!
An incredible film. And maybe the best soundtrack ever recorded.
seriously, this is what artistry looks and sounds like.
I'm SO glad other people find this soundtrack as moving as I do. It's just haunting. I think I could say this is my favorite tone on the planet.
I just keep thinking about this song since I first saw the movie in the early 2000's
This song is in my top 10 and has been since 1995, and it doesn't even have lyrics!
A perfect match to such a powerful film.
One of the best chord progressions ever, only Neil can pull this shit off, fucking amazing!!!!!
Absolutely fantastic, spiritual, mystical, from the other side music 🎶 IT'S MAKES MOVIE WOOOOW. Thank you from Africa, p.s. today I watched first time the movie DEAD MAN.👌💞

Criterion has the best behind the scenes footage
Un gigante en su elemento! emociona, como esa poetica obra maestra de Jarmush (cualquiera de sus peliculas!) que es Dead Man.

I rank him amongst Nino Rota for best film scores. I’m happy this footage exists
c'est une chose incroyable, merci !
If the old west had a sound this would be it.
Watching this is like ascending Mount Olympus and meeting Zeus 🙏🏼
Damn it's hell of a Score. Where can i watch the whole hald-hour release?
Did you find it?
This neil's best song
This soundtrack should have won an Oscar. How often do movie music budgets allow for a virtuoso to play...never, except on this occasion...........lang lang or Yo Yo Ma.....have they ever recorded soundtracks? Jacqueline Du Prey? Neil Young has proved himself to be the Paganini of electric guitar
Pone ablar su guitarra sonido clasico.........🎸🎵🎶🎼🎼🎶🎵.
is this the only 1.......humans be shamed.......this is legendary... as is the film.
Genius
This is great. Do you have more?
Do you have any tobacco ?

Those horrible pick hits on electric guitar strings that, like avalanche, break down on a man's head. mesmerizing!
