Back in 2014 when I replaced the ball joint’s in my 2007 Dodge Ram 2500, my C type anvil was not large enough when using the adapter cups to remove them. I ended up torching them out. Then the anvil was helpful installing them. I wish I had your tool available. Wow. Thanks for the informative video. BK
@@rfranciskane298 Imagine getting paid only 2 hours for this job and you spend 4 hrs doing it. That is why I got this to get me under the 2 hrs. Warranty labor times are getting ridiculous.
Wow, I had no idea that the Ram ball joints couldn't be removed with a regular ball joint press. I can see where that scissors type tool would do the job. Thanks for the video!
I did a set on a 3500 a couple months ago. I was lucky and got away with the regular ball joint press kit, an Astro Pneumatic kit off the jungle site. I did have to fabricate some spacers and adapters that the kit didn't come with, but overall the kit worked fine. I will admit, when it popped, I jumped.
I used air hammer on where ball joint is pressed in not on the tool itself.after you shock it will start to move and after you hit it tighten down the c clamp and eventually will come out. I have done many ram 3500 and 4500 ball joint this way. But if i had extra money i would definitely buy that tool ur showing.
Tip, put the ball joints in the freezer for a bit before you press them in. Don't beat on the C press with a hammer (good way to destroy a perfectly good tool). Hit the side of the knuckle where the ball joint is pressed into while its under pressure from the C press, the shock from the hammer blows will distort the bore just enough to allow the ball joint to pop loose. Work smart, it will save you from that 20.00 a week payment to the mobile tool pimps for the rest of your life. Put some anti seize on the threads of that otc c press, keeps the threads from galling and grease that new Japco press to keep the threads from galling.
Yeah he had the c clamp press on there upside down for that particular joint since he didn't have the upper joint out yet. It's all about order of operation on that truck.
I’ve done several rams with just the harbor freight kit. Never done me wrong. And lol the wrenches I bought from there beat snapons in the nylon nut test 😂.
@@rodleypumpkins4174 My harbor freight C looks like an M now, I'm not a Fanboy of any tool unless it works. I destroy cut weld bend and twist any of my tools to get a job done
I'd say jack that truck up and use the press in the upside down direction you currently have it in. Make sure to swap the receiver and driver too. When it binds, hit the knuckle of the truck with a hammer. Trust me it works just fine. But yeah that new press is a jem I got one since most modern suv have little to no clearance under the fender.
You're pretty much need two people to run that goofy scissor thing the way he's doing it. He's obviously not using an impact gun with the C clamp type works like a dream every time.
@@davidevans8826 Trust me I’ve been using C clamp for years, sometimes it’s a struggle. I bought this new press on recommendation by many master techs and even though it cost me a week salary it was worth it.
did my 95 ram ball joints all 4 in my driveway with a harbor freight ball joint press was not that hard .press was less than 100 also replaced u joints and wheel bearings and brakes while i was there
It cost $1000 bucks!!! I have the first one and cost me $35 papers ... and it worked quite well... It is too much money, looks like a T-800 but no, sorry =(

I have literally done dozens with the 8031 which is the pro tool for dodge. That looks like and seems like operator error.
@@HamRadio200 Jungle site is hilarious
I've broken 2 C-clamp presses on fricking RAMs. I got that new style one from MATCO. Knocks all the stubborn joints right out.

that thing is a beast, wish I had the money for one
That thing does a nice job.
Been there done that. For a garage wrench turner, C-clamp press is all I can justify.
Those new ones are heavy and kind of awkward to set up but holy crap do they work.
I always use a thin coat of never-seize on the new joint. Pay it forward.
I've replaced thousands of ball joints and never once has a C type press failed me I'm suspecting user error.

Lube the threads on that press...
I was thinking the same, but the threads do look like they have lube on them.
I have one got it from Cornwell it’s nice but more of a pain to use than the regular ones we still use the snap on bjp1 more
That dealership should provide that tool. Hand tools are one thing but specialized is another.
@@robertskelton2576 Lol, wish that would be the case.
I had that issue with my e350. Came right off after I hit it with a torch.
I have has the Snap On kit for a decade and it has never failed to remove a ball joint
Try the lower on a 15 year old 4Runner that's spent it's life in the rust belt.
@ Dude I live in Michigan 4 runner ball joints are a cakewalk.

I have done 25-30 dodge ball joints from rusted to new with the 8031. Why are you not hitting the axle, why are you hitting the press it self?
There's a button on the lift to raise the vehicle to working height
Thanks for that tip, I got the job after another tech that couldn't finish it.
If you need heat and use a scissor type press then put the tools down

i hate dodge lowers....usiually gotta hit the knuckle with the torch just enough and imoact at 120 psi..
Am I the only one wondering why a 2020 one ton truck needs ball joints already? Fleet truck? How many miles? Great tool but $$$$
Just hammer the old one out. Use the tool to install new.

That lower ball joint looked as dry as popcorn fart!PB nut blaster then shock with a decent air hammer.
