@@freetousebyjtc I wouldn’t say it’s forgotten. a lot of popular studios, though they still use 3D, are beginning to utilize 2D techniques in their art and animation. Look at Spiderverse, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Mutant Mayhem
Scar always impressed me as a design because you can literally feel the “vibe” of Jeremy Irons’ line delivery in every scene he’s in. He practically crawls around his line-reads, and the poses reflect that so well. That kind of “impossible” negative space of his mouth shapes is so charmingly nasty, literally always talking out the side of his mouth. Being a nasty fella can be SO rubbery and expressive, these pencil tests PROVE that
That rough Simba there looks more of a mouse. Like something straight out from some much much older Disney film. I would assume it was a ref or placeholder for Scar's animator until Simba's animation was mixed in
Just realized how much Scar looks like Jafar. Then again, Disney does have very distinct animation eras, and one can usually tell if the same group of animators worked on a movie. Judging by Scar's "head swaggles", as I've heard them called, I'm guessing you may have done some training under Milt Kahl.
I was Andrea's inbetweener on all these tests! Brings back memories...he is an amazing animator!
I agree. Top man, top animator.
Your contribution to this scene shall be remembered for a long time. Thank you so much for helping make this film.
This is a prime example of why 2D animation should not be forgotten, overlooked or dismissed.
11 years later and it kinda is forgotten now, what with all big animation studios do only 3D animation now
@@freetousebyjtc Because the public as a whole has an incredibly awful taste, just take a look at pop music, the trendy songs are horrible.

It's amazing how much life tradictional animators could bring to a couple of lines drawn on a paper.
Sweet baby Jesus, these pencils are so smooth.
I met Andreas Deja. Not only is he a masterful animator, but he's incredibly sweet and humble. He's awesome.

Andreas Deja did a great job creating the character of Scar because he’s an excellent animator.

Now if I remember correctly, the scene where Scar tells Simba about the Elephant Graveyard was the first scene animated for the film.

Pure magic. What I wouldn't give to be able to do that.

Disney needs to bring back 2D animation I’m tired of lifeless live action remakes.
Never let pompous directors like Jon Favreau think 2D animation is dated and create awful 3D garbage like the remake.
Awesome.
I'm a big fan of your work Andreas Deja! Can you show us your reel of Alameda slim ?
1:05-1:08 Irons 🔥🔥🔥🔥🎵
