This is the 1st TTTT episode I've seen where the panelists didn't have to write down their choices secretly/ independently. Made it easy to make same choices as other panelists.
Me, too. Also the first one where there were only 2 segments and not three. And also the first one where they had the panel ask questions 3 separate times. Thank God they changed it into what it eventually became. I found this format to be a bit (I'm being genteel) tedious--and I think by the third time around (if not the second), the panelists did, too.
There were several episodes with 2 sets of contestants & panelists getting 2nd chance to ask questions, before & after this episode. This is the only episode with no secret ballot, no cards to fill out, & panelists could influence those yet to vote.
It appears they experimented with different ways of casting votes in the early episodes. I saw one where they voted on ballots which Bud announced without asking the reason for the vote. In this episode each panelist stated their vote out loud (which could have influenced the next in line). Of course, they eventually settled on marking ballots and then when all ballots were marked, the panelists each announced his or her vote and gave a brief explanation.
mh K Yes, Polly nailed it with the first question. I grew up in Kansas City, where we had the similar Starlight Theater outdoors in summertime showing Broadway musicals and operettas on tour. I don't think either venue did operas as such, despite the St. Louis Muni Opera name.
Everyone familiar with St. Louis knew that it was No. 3 based on him knowing the Muny is an outdoor theater. I'm surprised they didn't brief the other two on that.
#3 in the first game looked like a wrestler since the collar of his shirt along with his suit did not fit. Most wrestlers have large necks, thus shirts don't fit too well. The twins in game 2 did get answering the questions that were designed to try to fool them. Thanks for the video.
This time, both games were tough. All the three contestants in Game 2 knew the name of Jackie Gleason's agent. But, they pulled it off so well in Game 2.
In case anyone was wondering what a "sauté" is in ballet (as I was) : ruclips.net/video/XyoDWT6OqUA/видео.html. I have to say that, having never heard of a ballet step called a sauté, I was sure that it was _not_ #3 in game 1, because I thought he'd gotten the word jete mixed up with sauté, which seemed pretty ignorant. Looks like the real ignoramus is *me*!
+Gully R. Thank you for this! As the You Tube video stated, this was "The Most Hilarious Wrestling Match Ever"! I wonder what prompted him to make such a radical career change from ballet to professional wrestling. In any case, he had quite an act--and probably the most clever one in pro-wrestling!
First game: contestant number two -- "Mrs. Beaton is Cecil Beaton's wife." ?!? LOL. There is a person who knows bupkis about designer Sir Cecil Beaton.
When the panel was trying to trick the ladies, and asked #2 where her twin sister Ann was, how funny would it have been if she had said, sitting in the #3 chair. That would have turned the tables on the panel.
Enjoy these videos while you can, folks. For those who may not yet be aware, the WML channel is currently under direct attack by Fremantle Enterprises due to totally unjustifiable, outrageous copyright claims which they've only started filing because they just launched their new TV station, Buzzr. ***** Good idea! When I told my husband about the problem Gary's WML channel was facing, he suggested something like that too. I am way behind on watching the TTTT episodes posted thus far, but I actually came looking for your comment here, because you mentioned it in your comments on today's WML rerun. I didn't know what the "proposal" was that you referenced there, but now that I do, I also agree and would be glad to chip in if such a fund were started. To Tell the Truth (CBS) Hang in there, Gary, and please *do* let us know if there's something we can do to help!
Thank you, everybody. I hope it won't come to having to hire a lawyer and filing a lawsuit, but it's looking increasingly like this will be the only way to fight back. There are currently 15 blocked WML videos, all in the same time frame as the shows they're currently rerunning on Buzzr. It takes time for the material to be uploaded to RUclips's content matching software, so naturally, they're starting with the shows that are in active reruns. Since they've started TTTT in 1961, it may be a while before they go after this channel. But at the pace things are going so far, all the videos on the WML channel will be blocked within a couple of months. It's a disgrace. From a big media company that used to be one of the few good ones out there, which was supportive of fan postings to RUclips even of their *copyrighted* material. Well, that's up to them. It's NOT up to them what anyone does with public domain material like WML and TTTT, but this is a David vs Goliath situation. I will say this: Were it not for the outpouring of support from folks like you, I wouldn't even be considering fighting a battle like this. It will be unending stress until it's resolved, and I may not win, no matter how legally unjustified Fremantle's position is. But at least I know, for real, I'm not alone in this, and that means a great deal to me.
Fremantle probably paid quite a bit for the rights to the Goodson-Toddman library. I also remember that it took many hours to transfer the thousands of G/T episodes from the original 2" videotapes to digital media at CBS Television City. It would seem their right to protect their substantial financial investment.
Zarumin? That's the first sponsor I've never heard of. (Must've been a great product, because it was off the shelves before I gained consciousness of its existence. Good--I don't feel quite so old! LOL)
I am waiting for the day when someone on the production staff asks the obvious question: why does the set have a stair and yet we don't show people going down it??
soulierinvestments I definitely recall seeing the 3 contestants (is that the right word to describe them?) going down the stairs in an episode I watched today. I just don't remember which one.
spiritualED I got very confused myself looking at this, not even sure why! There was one show out of order in the playlist (which I've corrected), but otherwise, all the dates are correct and all the shows are in order. Sorry for the confusion.
Adam Curry Not going to happen, Adam, no matter how many times people suggest this to me. I'm not going to stand by and allow a big media company to steamroll over all the work I put in to these RUclips channels with no legal basis whatsoever, just to move to a platform that no one really watches (dailymotion and vimeo have maybe one tenth the viewership). Either I'll find a way to fight this and restore the videos, or I'm done with posting to the internet forever. I've been hit too many times with insane problems like this. There's a limit to how much I can take.

Finally got one right. I live in St. Louis and have been to the St. Louis Muny Opera several times. a large outdoor theater.
I got it the same way. (I once did a check to see whether any Pyramid celebrities had played the Muny while their shows aired.)

Hume Cronyn was an underrated actor.
This format is kind of tiring. I guess it took them a while to get the right chemistry.
Yes, agreed.

This program was broadcast 2 days before I was born in nearby Brooklyn!
I wasn't born until 1958 and not in Brooklyn.
The medals are in the mail
@@joeambrose3260 haha
Mrs. Beeton and Peggy Harvey were cookbook authors.
I had almost forgotten Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.
Like Dick I also thought number one was a singer! he had a great tone to his speaking voice.
“I sing in the shower…” lol
Bern Bennett is the announcer. Bob Shepherd does the ads for Zarmuin.
Since no one has mentioned it: Hume Cronyn was married to Jessica Tandy for over 50 years.
Note at the end when they all gave false names, he joked that he was Jessica Tandy.
Hume should have played the chauffeur in Driving Miss Daisy
@@joeambrose3260 that would not have worked....
@@terrihenricks4160 that couple made several great movies together🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
To see Ricky Starr in action:ruclips.net/video/UFdpXCGCaa4/видео.html He recently passed away at the age of 83.

From watching some of these early episodes, it looks as if some of the first imposters were recruited from potential WML contestants.
It was clear in game 2 that the twins were a red herring from the start. I guessed number 3 before a single question was asked.
Bern Bennett is the announcer. Bob Shepherd does the Zarumin/Geritol commericals.
Celebrity Guests:
1. Polly Bergen
2. Hume Cronyn
3. Hildy Parks
4. Dick Van Dyke
Host:
Bud Collyer
Number 1 had a gorgeous voice! Thats why I thought it was him!
First game: contestant number two -- "Mrs. Beaton is Cecil Beaton's wife." ?!? LOL. There is a person who knows bupkis about designer Sir Cecil Beaton.
. . . . and some more than others.
Cecil wore superb hats.
I'm surprised that as a collector of cookbooks with over 500 of them, nobody knew who she was (not wanting to give it away, so I'm being vague)

What happened to the buzzer !!!!????
What happened to the voting cards !!!!????
I am waiting for the day when someone on the production staff asks the obvious question: why does the set have a stair and yet we don't show people going down it??
Well, when TTTT when into syndication, it became a one floor show. I suspect the underwriters finally got their ways.
soulierinvestments I definitely recall seeing the 3 contestants (is that the right word to describe them?) going down the stairs in an episode I watched today. I just don't remember which one.
+soulierinvestments But the 1990 version had two staircases, one for the contestants and one for the celebrities!
It looks like the "walking down the stairs" has been edited out.
well, yhis one is very different.
Unwatchable 😮
"Tricky Ricky Star".
That much questioning and the way they voted I would be surprised if ever they were wrong. No good.
