Much respect to you, Martin. You're an ELT career professional - meaning you don't think there are only 2 "qualifications" needed for TESOL, i.e., being a "native speaker" and knowing how to operate a copier ;)
Very interesting to listen to your journey. I did the standard BA in History and Spanish, then did an MA European History, followed by a CELTA. I’ve been teaching in Spain for ten years years and I’m a bit stuck thinking what next? Not sure how to get in EAP, so thanks.😊
I would recommend anyone wishing to get into EAP is to do an MA in English Language Teaching, Linguistics or Language Acquisition. There is also another route into this by doing a DELTA instead as some universities are willing to accept this as an alternative to the MA.
Hi Martin, thank you for this informative video. Might I ask you which EAP training course for teachers you would recommend?? Also, which materials do you think would help us prepare for a task like the one you were given at the interview?
Thank you for sharing your experience with EAP. My question is the timing of teaching EAP. Should an ESL teacher gain experience first in general English and then move into academic or jump right into it?
That’s a great question. I believe that gaining experience with general English will give you the necessary skills to help before you jump into EAP. Perhaps 10 years is enough experience but what is more important are the qualifications.
Don't forget to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments! 😊
Thanks sharing! I just got into EAP this year and really love it!
That’s great to hear.

PS. I feel you on pre-sessional courses. I've done 2 so far, and agree that they are very rewarding and fulfilling xx

Very interesting learning about your life and teaching history.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your kind words.

Hi, thank you for sharing your journeys. I'm starting my CELTA class on Monday. Also, which DELTA program is the best Cambridge or Oxford? Thank you.
