I've been teaching for Twenix for about a week now. I love that the students are fairly high level and are very willing speakers and are professionals. It's enjoyable. Unfortunately, because I live in Thailand, the pay is only six euros per hour, and after the first 100 classes they will only raise it .10 euros. So, sad trombone. But I'm going to keep doing it probably for a few more months until I can find another income stream.
That’s great to hear that you’ve been teaching on Twenix. Thank you for sharing you experience. It’s a wonderful source of supplementary income and always good to spread revenue streams.
@@ELTExperiences I think it was your video that alerted me to this opportunity so thank YOU. From applying to being fully onboarded took just over a month. I'm impressed by the interface. The way they have teachers handle corrections is particularly smart. Of course, the ChatGPT-generated questions are not always the best, but in those cases I do a bit of googling in advance and keep relevant tabs open for easy access during the lesson. One students seemed to be in a less than good mood. The lesson was about hobbies and she gave very short answers and I ran out of material and didn't have any backup ready. She gave me a 3. Lesson learned: always be prepared. Every other student has given me a 5.
That's definitely not a competitive rate, so I'm a little surprised to hear you say that especially knowing how much your profile is (or was?) listed at on set-your-own-rate sites. It's barely scraping UK living wage. A little annoying that you don't mention any solid numbers in the "rate of pay" section itself either... Is there a reason you moved to Twenix? Issues with iTalki/Preply?
Thanks for the comment. Twenix offer those a potential opportunity for those that hold no degree or people who speak English as a second language a chance to gain experience with online tutoring. The rate of pay is determined by location, so I don’t have specific information about individual rates based on countries.
Hi Martin. It's so great to see how well you're doing in your new life in Korea. Twenix seems a fantastic platform. Its policy of non discrimination between native and non native English teachers is a breath of fresh air. It was about time! I recently got a Delta and currently teach part-time at an Italian university, so I've got some spare time and would love to apply. Could you please tell me more about the demo lesson? Will I have to introduce myself or just teach? Will I have someone to teach to or just pretend someone is there? Will I use their platform and material or prepare mine? How did you structure a very short lesson? They seem to prefer a conversation-based approach, so did you adopt this approach for your demo lesson? Sorry about all the questions 🙂 Thank you!
There is very little time to introduce yourself but you have to pretend you have completed the ‘get to know you tasks’ and just teaching the main point. It is your chance to shine and show how well you carry yourself during the recorded lesson. It seems a little odd speaking to yourself but imagine you are chatting to a friend and give it a few takes until you are happy with the brief video. I hope this helps. 😊
I have an issue with Wise. I live in Sri Lanka and I am a Belgian with a Belgian bank account. I tried to make a Wise account, but Sri Lanka is not on their list ...what do I do?
Looking at Wise and their page on Sri Lanka, it is available to use in this country. I would recommend that you look at the Wise pages for advice but you could always connect your Sri Lankan bank account to Wise or you could open up the account with your Belgian bank account. Otherwise, get in touch with Wise to see what they can do. I use Wise with my Korean and UK bank accounts.
@@ELTExperiences Yes, in Korea you can, not in Sri Lanka. Same for Payoneer. I struggle for all new accounts from this country. By the way, maybe it is useless to worry as Twenix said they are overwhelmed with applications and it can take time before I get approved.
This video makes me very excited to sign up to Twenix! I have a question, I'm Dutch but I live in the Philippines on a tourist visa, do you know if I should say on Twenix that I live in The Netherlands or Philippines?
Hmm. That’s a good question. I think that you should say The Netherlands as you are visiting the Philippines as a tourist. However, it’s entirely up to you.
Bro. It's completely legal to work in the Philippines for an overseas company. If you are Dutch than your ID will clarify that. So say The Netherlands.
My advice is to take your time, write down what you want to say in bullet points, smile, and record multiple takes before sharing a video you wish to share. This is what I did and then submitted the demo video. Take your time until you feel happy with what you have produced.

Hi thank you for this very informative video. I was offered 6euros only since I live in the Philippines. My question is, I will be migrating to the USA very soon to be with my husband, will Twenix also change my rate according to the cost of living in the USA? Thank you.
Can i ask what time in the day can you teach. I am based in the UK . I have kids at school so middle of the day for me and can you get lessons then? thanks
Thank you for your questions. I assume that there are lessons available during the day but I’m not totally sure to be honest. To record your demo lesson, you can just use your laptop’s webcam, but if you want to make it a little more professional then you can then use a microphone and good headphones. The demo lesson needs to demonstrate your actual setup.
Not entirely sure to be honest. You could always check with them but looking at their requirements, you only need a laptop and a good internet connection.
How long did it take for you to do the onboarding. It is taking me a little while to get through. Is there a time limit on it. I seem to be doing all the microcourses too etc is that correct should do that before you finish the onboarding.
The onboarding took me two days to complete. There are micro courses available but I focused solely on the onboarding training. Your profile is available immediately once this is complete and you can start teaching from the get go.
@@ELTExperiences Thank you for your reply. Also can you use the platform once the onboarding is complete because mine does not seem to let me log in yet. I can get into the onbording but not the teachibg platform?
As soon as the onboarding is complete, you will then be able to access the teaching platform. If this is not available, then you should contact Twenix for any further support.
@@ELTExperiences I am currently going through the onboarding, it is quite comprehensive and well-written (and will take time!) If you aren't able to access the platform after doing onboarding, it is worth checking if there is a section that you have not completed (marked as 'done'), as that would prevent the system from verifying that onboarding is completed. As I'm doing the onboarding in stages, I am checking all the bits are done in one part of the onboarding module before proceeding to the next.
Thank you Martin. I have one other question that I forgot to ask...I read that these are students specifically learning business English. Could you clarify for me if that is true?
@@ELTExperiences Thank you Martin. This would work very well for me. I have my Celta and am currently finishing a certificate course in teaching business English. Also, I live in Spain so am learning Spanish
do they require any proof of nationality or location? i am mixed filipino and american, but i wanna emphasize that i'm a native speaker as i also sound like a native whenever i'm speaking. would it be fine if i tell them that i'm american?
Hello. Thanks for the video. It was quite helpful. I am in the process of making the demo lesson, but have been asked to refer to and revise briefly on the previous lessons. The rate of pay is dependent upon the location of the teacher. Sorry I was unable to provide any more concrete information about it, but it was based upon my experience but it would differ for someone else located elsewhere.
@@ELTExperiences Thank you for responding. I understand the rates of pay vary, but commonly in these situations you would at least say what you're making teaching from Korea so that people could gauge accordingly. I respect that you couldn't provide that number, but I object to your implicit promise of it.
