I too came upon this (and their 2019 piece Gloria) by accident. I am in no way involved with LC but I've been brought to tears everytime I play this and the Gloria from 2019. What an awesome sound from an awesome group of musicians. Thank you for sharing this and other pieces from past concerts. May those of you taking part in the 2021 Christmas concert bring all the power, majesty and beauty you can to heal our broken country and our spirits.

I agree with Dusty, it's so awesome to go back and see all of these familiar faces and relive the music. Also, IPTV's final shot of Tim Peter at the end of "Hope of Resolution" where he is overcome with emotion and exhales upwardly and causes his hair to move... that is unparalleled!

Tim Peter was a treasure! I am sure he still is, but he was then, too! They should have done more to keep him!

As a new alum (‘20), stumbling upon this touched my heart. Not only was The First Nowell my favorite candle lighter-I watched it as a prospective student and that pretty much made my decision-but Dr. Jennaya Robison was my last conductor and I was one of her last officers this year as she left and here she was a new conductor. What a beautiful reminder of the generations of Luther students before me who participated in the same things as I did, sang the same songs I did, and love this beautiful place as much as I do. Thank you for sharing, my heart is content tonight.

I'm wondering whether the choir consists of voice majors in the music school.

The music program at Luther consists of students on all academic paths. I graduated with a degree in English, but my main reason for going was to get to sing with and for Tim Peter.

Erik, you can see how popular this is with 25,000 views and only 3 years. Any chance you could locate the high def version of this and post it? I remember watching it at the time when it was broadcast here in Chicago on public television. It was beautiful.

Great to see and hear Nordic with Weston conducting~ (question: when was the last Christmas at Luther that Weston directed in?)

Hi Dave, Weston retired after the 2004-2005 academic year so 2004 is your answer. In this broadcast, Weston is in a wheelchair after a tibia fracture in a car accident a few weeks earlier. I remember during our Sunday afternoon rehearsals the weekend before these performances, Weston rose up out of his wheelchair and walked back-and-forth on the concourse with his walker to show us his recovery progress.

@@ryanhulshizer8894 thanks Ryan for filling me in. I was in his last Concert Band/Europe Tour in ‘72. What with the changing of direction from The Messiah, we didn’t get back to a LUther Christmas until 2012. But we’ve been there every year since. I had the privilege of having him for my conducting class, so I’ve carried that on with me through teaching, and directing!
